I'm going to start with worst because it IS the worst.
Worst: FE5, Chapter 24x. Maji explained the entire hell hole of the mess. GOD DAMN THAT MAP!
Best: Gonna go with Chapter 12x in FE5. I can't remember any other FoG chapters D:

Worst: Chapter 13x in FE7. Yeah, its fairly simple to defend Merlinus, but there's that village...it taunts you...and if you send someone to grab it, chances are that they'll die. Not to mention the fog makes it incredibly easy to just run into an enemy while sending Marcus to that village.
Best: Chapter 9 in FE7. It's a short, sweet map, with a fun boss. Not much else to say.

Best: Ike (FE 9). He fights for his friends and Aethers everyone.
Worst: Zealot. It's like some more worthy candidate can take this spot, but he was the first to come to mind.

Best: Arthur!Levin, holy Holsety right off the bat and on a horse!
Worst: FE3/12 Nina, she comes at the last turn of the last chapter with low stats and low weapon levels, more novelty than anything, but a unit's a unit. :/ Shame really, I love Nina, too bad she got the short end of the stick.

The Black Knight and Orson don't count because they become bosses. Trial Map characters or characters you get after the story has ended do not count.

Best: On one hand, there is Sety with Holsety in FE4 and FE5. In both games he is broken once he gets that tome. However for me, I am going to give this to a different unit who has won my heart through his strength: Fergus. He managed to get his way through FE5 as soon as I recruited him. He had a permanent spot on my team because he did the job I needed: Defend weak units, kill enemies, and of course he has a mystery around him.
Worst: I'm actually going to give this one to Corple for FE4. He is the son of Sylvia, and...he comes late in the game and at a low level when you already have two perfectly capable healers. On top of that, sure he can recruit Hannibal, but really he just ended up getting benched for me.

Best: -drumroll please?- ... Ike. Of course Ike is the best playable unit. He's go the Aether skill and apparently the capacity to solo his own game (although I haven't tried it). His activation of the Aether skill makes him a BEAST after promotion.
Worst: FE 6. Merlinus. Dude, Merlinus, what happened to you, man? 20 years went by and you forgot how to level up map to map, and instead decide you gotta get hit 100 times and live? Nuh-uh. Stay outta my battles and hold my stuff.

Best: Hector. The only axe lord you get, and he tanks pretty well too. And the beard, man. THE BEARD.
Honorable mentions go to Ike for Aethering the s**t out of everyone, Ninian for dancing and giving everyone buffs, and FE7 Merlinius for carrying my s**t around while I go crush the opposition and being frikkin' immortal.
Worst: ... FE6 Merlinus. What the hell. 100 hits to level you up? Pass. Just stay in the back and pray you don't get destroyed in one go.

Does Merlinus seriously count as a character unit..? I mean he can't fight like the herons, but he also doesn't do a single thing except hold items...
Best: Titania Ike
I love Hector to death, but it always seems like Ike is far more accurate with a sword and is more likely to survive especially FE 9 Ike.
Worst: Merlinus
Obviously Merlinus who can't even fight and forgot how to level up in FE 7... Also, you'd think by now that he should just keep his 20/20 level or a transfer would make sense from FE 7 if FE 6 ever comes to North America. >.>

Best: FE9 Ike. Had a hard time deciding, because of FE10 Haar and Shinon... as well as some pre-FE6 characters... Still not quite firm in my stance, but I haven't been posting in these rounds so much, so I need to start.
Worst: FE6 Merlinus lololol-- Seriously, you should gain a level each chapter like you do in FE7 neutral

Best: FE 9 Ike. Enough said.
Worst: . . . I honestly don't know. I guess I'll go with Merlinus, the FE 6 version, of course.

Best: Merlinus, both incarnations. Seriously, the way this man works surprises me to no end. He can take hit after hit and come back completely unscathed the next chapter. Sure, some plot important characters can hit 0 HP and live to tell the tale...But Merlinus doesn't have that luxury. Best part? The man can materialize at will. What's that? Having a conversation halfway across the bloody map? HERE'S MERNILUS TO SAY "NO LORD ROY. >:C"
That's just badass.
Worst: Zealot. I have no issues with you as a character, heck...I kinda even like you. But you're just a disappoint to me as a unit.
