Ravenclaw

Nam was hunched over the Ravenclaw table, staring intently at a rather dejected looking Slytherin girl. He only stopped to look down at a half-full journal page below him. Feeling that she was starting to notice his glare, he scribbled furiously in the middle of the page, Here I go. Then gathered it up with one scoop of his long fingers and stalked over to her.

He was abnormally tall, but she still topped him by a couple inches. Of course, she was older by some years, and part elf, but still, it didn't feel quite right. Thankfully at the moment she was sitting and he was standing. He wobbled uneasily on the spot, then blurted in a forced casual voice, "You know we both have walnut wands? Both 13 and 1/2 inches. Sort of strange."

Callysto looked at the boy curiously, tilting her head and raising an eyebrow. She smirked at his odd apparel and almost laughed outright at his wild red hair.
"Is that so?"
Turning to face him completely notices his odd stature, and his obvious nervousness.
"You're not a Slytherin are you?"
She smirks and hold out a hand,
"Callysto -- and you are?"

Ravenclaw

"Yes, I know you're Callysto. You're the Slytherin prefect and good friends with the Hufflepuff girl Chibi. Er, I'm Polpil. Nam Polpil, of Ravenclaw." He shuffled, staring so hard at her hand one would think he were trying to apparate his own hand into hers. He looked in the opposite direction took hold of her hand awkwardly and blindly, giving it two good shakes and pulling his arm back quicker than Michael Phelps can swim, then snapped his head back toward her as though he hadn't done anything out of the ordinary.

He hovered, completely unsure of what move to make next. He started to step in one direction, then another, instead doing a sort of stationary dance, wondering vaguely how badly he may be boring the poor lady with his anti-social antics.

"Ah, I see my reputation precedes me--" He looked away as he took her hand, and she furrowed her brow, confused. Callysto shook her head,
"Yes, Chibi and I are-- uhm, good friends..." She looks down and lets out a small sigh. She lifts her eyes, watching him move away, then back again.
"You all right there, Nam?"

Meiko yawns as she goes to the Ravenclaw table. She sips tea from her cup and eats some grapes as she twirled a strand of her hair.

Ravenclaw

"Yeah, just... thinking." He came to an abrupt halt with his back to her. "Well, not really thinking, more like considering. Or..." He sighed deeply and turned to face her for the second time. "It came to my attention that you asked a certain question in Muggle Studies... a question I should have liked to ask, only, the other way around."

"... I'm making a complete 'a**' of myself, aren't I? Perhaps it'd be best to turn back while I can..." He reached up and stroked his chin with his spindly index finger and thumb. "Nevermind. That's not a comfortable thing to ask strangers about." Pulling himself out of his ramblings, he lost his aloof nature and stood straight for the first time that night. "Sorry. I'm sure you can tell, but, I'm not so good with people..."

Callysto frowned, confused by the boys actions. She tilts her head, wondering what he could be referring too. When the answer dawns on her, she smiles.
"It's alright, I understand. Please, have a seat."
She smiles wider, gesturing to the available spot next to her.
"I assure you, you'll do no harm in asking the questions that are...inevitable. And I think you'll find wizards a bit more open, how can we not? When there are singing hats and elves running around!

Nam fell into the seat thankfully. As soon as she seemed to realize his intentions he felt his legs would cave in. "I... I see. Yes, that's a good point." He looked around the table and took some one's left over cup and drank the dregs swiftly from it. What showed of his face was a bit flushed. As eager as he was to bring up the subject, now he felt it almost unbearable.

His mind swam for something to say, though mostly it kept telling him to run back to the dormitory and hide under his bed. Then he looked up into Callypto's assuring dark gray eyes. They brought back inspiration and focus, seemed to anchor him to the spot. So much is expressed in the eyes. He mused.

"The teacher didn't expand on it very much... but in many muggle places, a different orientation is regarded... well, if they can't be 'fixed', they're shunned, abused... and in the worst places, killed." He wondered if he was making it out to be worse than it was, though it was true to his back-water home town. "Of course, we--- er, they know to keep quiet or move to a community of their ...'kind'. So there's not too much mishap." He searched around for more scraps of half eaten food to stop his tumbling stomach. "Please, expand on how that's different from here."

Meiko's face lightened as she turned to the headmistress. "Oh, good day, professor... yes, it is quite a lovely day."
She grabs her goblet and drank some milk from it and said serenely to the headmistress. "I'm doing quite well, ma'm... how about you?"

Callysto frowned at his words. 'Muggles were killed or forced to live elsewhere? How awful...' The professor certainly hadn't said they were as harsh as that. She didn't want to believe muggles capable of being so heartless but the seriousness in Nam's voice and eyes told her every word he said was true. Reaching over to lay a gentle hand on his shoulder she smiled, hoping to comfort him.
"Well... In the elven community we are accepting of any and all. In the wizarding world I've seen no abuse towards those..."
She looked straight at him to gage his reaction to her words. "Like us."
"Though, one can always expect a bit of intolerance... I think being a half-blood -- muggle, elf, or otherwise is more -- how shall I say -- taboo. Why, I heard the great Albus Dumbledore himself was homosexual."

//I'm really hoping that makes sense -- took me a while, hehe//

Ravenclaw

When Callypto's hand met his shoulder and she said that careful 'us', Nam couldn't help but whimper a little. The beginnings of joyous, relieved and scared tears were mingling in the corners of his hidden eyes. It was, after all, a momentous occasion to admit to it after his first experience. But he forced himself to make no signs of committal, at least nothing more than a faint smile and whispered thanks in this extremely exposed setting.

His ears perked at the news of Hogwarts' ex-headmaster's well hidden personal taste. He decided to tuck that piece of information away in a special corner of his treasury of trivial knowledge. Nam was becoming increasingly vulnerable. It was a feeling akin to a record he'd read about occlumency training somewhere in the library. He figured it must be a great deal the same for her. What a compassionate person, to open for little to no reason to a stranger. He decided it was time to cut off, for now.

"Thank you, Callypto. It means... probably more than you can imagine, judging from your facial expressions when I was describing my native culture." He stood and gave a bow in her direction. "I guess I'll see you in classes then." He hurried out the grand hall door, then came rushing back and did a nervous hop in front of her. "Uhm -- I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't share this with any one..." He bit his lip. She will most likely think me a coward.

(( Makes perfect sense! Fantastic job. ))

I walk into the great hall and search the Slytherin table for a familiar face.
"Ah! Callysto!" I say waving, as I make my way over. I notice her talking to a Ravenclaw boy. I send a smile his way as I take the seat across from them.
"Hmm...what sounds good.." I mutter to myself, not wanting to interrupt their conversation.
I grab some chicken, ham, potatoes and a couple of rolls. I whisper a 'thank you' before digging in.

Liviana walked into the Great Hall, a small spring in her step. Her nose and cheeks were pink from the frosty evening air. She sat at the Ravenclaw table and reached for a steaming mug of Earl Grey tea. As she sipped at the molten contents, it was impossible to not notice the sparkle in her blueberry colored eyes, and the small smile playing at her lips.
