King Darian

Darian heard Sienna and Sheridan's words, and he found himself calming down, slowly becoming less panicked and starting to become more and more docile. Not that he would ever consider himself docile, but as limited as he was at the moment, that was the term that would be used. "Thank you my love..." he whispered, his first words spoken aloud since the grave wounding that he had inflicted upon himself. "My daughter and her cousin are on their way here... I don't want them injured... I sent Linda, but for some reason, someone keeps trying to kill my emissary... We must find out who and..." Darian coughed and couldn't continue speaking, having to continue speaking to Sienna with his mind. 'We must kill whomever is trying to thwart me... I will not have my daughter or her companions killed...'

Sienna sighed slightly as she started to feel Darian relaxing against her. She smiled to herself as she once more rested her head on his shoulder as she listened to him breathing. "Oh Darian..." Sienna said as she heard him speaking to her once more. She looked up at his face as she listened to him, her eyes starting to glow just slightly as she heard him say that someone was trying to harm Mina and Selene. "My love, tell me what I should do and I will do whatever I can to find out who is behind this." Sienna lightly placed her hand over Darian's chest as he couched, wanting to try and lessen his pain as much as she could. As she heard the rest of what Darian wished to say in her mind she looked up at him and lightly placed a kiss to his lips before speaking. "I will do whatever is needed to help you protect your daughter and her friends. But rest for now, and when you wake we can talk some more."

All night staring at the ceiling
Counting the minutes I've been feeling this way
So far away and so alone

(())

Riku noticed she wasn’t coming right at him. A small smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as his eyes took in the subtle changes in Selene. Her eyes had narrowed, making the assassin believe either she could tell he was waiting, or expected him to try something…dirty. Either way, the change had not gone unnoticed. She is either waiting for me, or preparing for her next attack. By the looks of it, it had been the latter as she moved her sword into a familiar position. He didn’t know how many years of fighting he had on the fairy princess. However, Riku had learned many moves in his life time. Some he chose not to do himself. But, that didn’t mean he didn’t know how to defend himself from those moves.

Her body flowed into a move called the Fairy’s Last Stance. It required the opponent to aim for the neck with the sword. Also, if he remembered correctly, the opponent would throw a knife at a vital organ, possibly the stomach or kidney. When the knife came towards him, his eyes would tell its’ path would land it in his kidney. However, while Riku said he would go easy….that didn’t mean he would allow her to wound him. Thus, he defected the knife with his blade. The knife landed a few feet away as her body still came at him. A small sigh left his lips as his other blade hovered his neck area, ready to push her sword area from that vital place.

However, it seemed she had changed her mind. Her body twisted to the side, as if trying to dodge a swing of his blade. Then, the princess appeared to be getting smaller. Trying to shield yourself by changing your body size? You know that really only helps if you become the size of a nat. His arms crossed his torso, the blades still extended out of his wrist contraptions. The fire danced across the weapons, giving them an eerie glow. They continued to shine as Selene moved her sword and knife to cover her more…softer areas. Protecting the vitals area is a good measure. But, that will not save you in the end. Not when there are many areas you can attack and get a similar result.

Then, Riku watched as Selene grew still. He knew she was waiting for an attack. But, the way her hair floated around her body made him unable to take her very seriously. After all, the fairy had dodged an attack that never happened. While the assassin knew it was best to dodge, he didn’t get why she felt the need to move away when his blades had stayed in a defensive manner. Oh well. It is always amusing to watch people get all dramatic with their moves. Makes taking them down all the more fun. His arms moved to rest at his sides as his eyes kept themselves focused on Selene. The assassin could hear movement in the background, but paid no mind to it. Unless they decide to attack me, I have no need to focus on any of the others in the group.

“Nice move. Though next time, you should dodge when you are actually getting attacked. Makes you look a little weird when you are moving away from non-existent blades.” However, the assassin did not move right away. His eyes looked over the sword and knife carefully, observing any faults in the weapons he could use to his advantage. When Riku found none too obvious, his body started to move towards her. The steps were relaxed and calm as if approaching a regular stranger. The only hint of something up his sleeve was a subtle shimmer in his red pools. One that would indicate his movements were not made with friendly intentions in mind.

His blades moved up to cress cross his chest, making it seem like he was preparing to slash at her. Once he was a few feet away, his expression became neutral and unemotional, allowing no trace of amusement or glee to reach the assassin’s face. Now, lets’ see what happens when I do this. His arms moved to slash at her. But, before Riku could connect his legs looked to collapse on him. The assassin found himself in a crouch position with his hands resting briefly for a few moments. However, Riku did not stay crouched down for long. Soon, the palms of his hands rested against the ground before his body lowered some more. With a brief smirk, his body swung itself in a circle. His legs extended out, hoping to connect with her knees to knock her off her feet. Even if he missed, Riku still would find his legs resting behind him. However, it would depend on if she fell as to what his next move would be.

Selene

Seeing what RIku was doing, Selene sheathed both her knife and her sword in one smooth motion and jumped out of the way, coming to a rest in a similar crouching move as she faced him. She knew that he was better than her, but all her instincts were on surviving this battle. She did not know if the fight was intended to go that far, but sh would prove herself by lasting longer than he supposed she would. She was not weak!

Nodding, Darian closed his eyes and forced himself to raise a hand to hold Sienna. His grip was weak, but he wanted to feel her flesh, and to seek her strength. A small sigh escaped him as he started to slowly fall into a pained sleep.

Linda

Linda started to stir, and sleepily sat up, rubbing the sleep away from her eyes. Peering around, after noticing that Riku was gone, Linda tried to find what had woken her. Seeing the fight, she gasped and almost stepped forward, but the fight seemed to have gone on for a little bit already, and Riku and Selene were really focused. She didn't want to distract them, didn't want to cause them to slip up. But she didn't understand why they were fighting. What was going on?

Sienna smiled slightly as she lightly gripped Darian's hand and moves it to rest on her stomach, wanting him to not only feel her but also their children. "I'll be right here when you wake up love." She whispers to him as he drifts to sleep. And as he rests Sienna softly hums a song mentally hoping that her voice in his mind will be able to sooth him so he can rest easily.

The princess had sheathed both her knife and sword. Then, she jumped out of the way of his leg sweep. As she landed in a similar crouching position to his own, he jumped up. He stepped back and let his hands relax at his sides. The blades rested against the top of his hands, giving a cooling contrast against his heated flesh. His red pools looked at her carefully, planning his next move. However, something out of the corner of his eyes made him freeze up slightly. The assassin couldn’t tell who it was that moved in his peripheral. But, his muscles became tense and his aura became more guarded. If this is some idea of a sneak attack, then she really is weak.

However, the movement stopped. For a brief moment, he entertained the thought of looking over to see who it was. No. That would be letting my guard down. Thus, Riku kept his eyes focused on Selene. The red pools looked her over, trying to find any weakness he could exploit. As he looked, he started to move his body to the side. He knew that if she was any good, she would probably start moving her body. That way, they would continually be facing the other. If she didn’t do this, then the princess would lead her back and sides vulnerable soon enough. Patience is a virtue. Patience is a… He repeated the mantra in his head as he kept moving to his side, waiting for the opening he needed to strike.

Selene

Standing, Selene started to move to the side as well, her hand resting on the handle of her sword. She kept her face towards Riku, wondering what he was trying to do. She noticed the movement and Linda behind him, noticed the movement of his eyes, but she didn't say or do anything. Instead, she kept the information in the back of her mind, and remembering for later, if she had to resort to dirty tricks. She wouldn't put Linda into danger, instinctively knowing Riku's reaction to something like that, but she could use Linda somehow.

His eyes noticed her hand resting on the handle of her sword. This meant that if he went right at her, she would pull out her sword. The red pools tried to see if her other hand was holding unto her knife. If it was, that was yet another factor he would have to consider. As one hand moved the blade back into his hand, he used it to run a hand through his hair. The other hand’s blade stayed extended and ready for any attacks. What is she waiting on? I guess she is trying to figure out what I have planned for my next move. However, the assassin would not allow himself to be read so easily. The hand moved away from his hair, extending the blade back out ash he did so. “Hmmmm. This is starting to get boring….” He yawned slightly, a small smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.

“Though, if my objective was to kill you….I wouldn’t circle around like this. You could say I’m not much for theatrics and don’t have the patience to extend fights for long. After all…the longer the fight is, the less chance they will die unless I can inflict a mortal wound on them…” The red pools had the urge to look at the others, but decided against it. “However, dirty tricks are always nice…However; I won’t stand for them unless I do them. Though…if dirty tricks do get involved in this fight…” The shimmer in his eyes seemed almost scary as he grinned, showing some of his teeth. “Just know that I will use anything against you...I don’t have morals restricting me at all…unlike yourself.”

Then, Riku stopped his circling movement. The assassin started to move slowly towards her. His feet were careful and calculated, not moving too fast or too slow. His hands rested at his sides, the blades resting against his hot flesh once more. Now…what she is going to do? He kept moving towards her, but stopped halfway. He wasn’t about to put himself in the range of the sword. For now, Riku would wait until she decided to approach him, and then…attack.

Selene

Selene watched Riku closely, her eyes narrowed. She ignored his words, knowing that they were meant to irk her. Seeing him stop, her eyes took in how he was positioned, where his knivves were, what he looked to be doing. Grimacing slightly to herself, she took a slight step forward, her other hand fingering the blade of her knife. She herself was getting tired of this fight as well, but she wasn;t sure how to make it end. Then a thought struck her.

"Linda, why don't you come here?" she asked softly. Linda, however, heard her. Coming over to Selene's side and giving the Princess a confused look, she seemed to stumble a bit against the Princess. Selene held Linda up, her own posture relaxing only slightly. "Now, what did you think of how much of the fight you saw?" she asked the confused faerie. Linda shrugged a little, giving Riku a superbly confused look.

"I thought you both fought well, but why were you fighting? I didn't think that things had been so bad that you guys didn't like each other..." she said, her tone just as confused as she looked. Selene shook her head.

"No, he just wanted to make sure that I could fight. I know that he's fairly good himself, so I thought that this was an interesting opportunity," Selene assured Linda. Linda frowned, and Selene smiled a little, patting the faerie's shoulder. "Although I'm sure that some of my moves were a little showy..." Selene frowned. Linda shrugged.

"I just didn't like to see the fighting... Someone from the outside might see it as a weakness and would try to take advantage of the distraction." Something dark passed behind the faerie's eyes, and Selene felt some measure of concern for her. "I don't want that to happen. Whoever is taking the first watch, just take it..." Linda went back to sit where she had been sitting earlier, the dark look still in her eyes. Selene frowned a little while watching her, but looked back at Riku. She didn't say anything now, so she just waited for Riku's reaction.

Linda

As Linda sat down, she glared at the ground, remembering clearly the day that her brother had left.

Their parents had still been alive then, but their parents were not exactly loving of one another. Linda remembered the keen loss of her brother leaving, and her parents had been in a fight about whose fault it was that Darian had left, and whose fault it was that she was so useless. Linda was in her room on the upper floor of their wooden home, and sobbing quietly to herself. She didn't notice anything was wrong until she heard screams from outside her window. People in her village were screaming and pointing at her house, or at least half of them were. The other half were running from some decidedly grayish looking men. She couldn't figure out why the people were pointing at her house, not until she felt heat from her door. Looking, she uttered a small scream herself, seeing flames licking at the wooden frame. If the fire was there already, then the rest of the house must have already been lost! Sobbing in earnest now, she tried to find a way out, but was unable to do so. Just then, the floor fell out from beneath her, and she fell to the ground, screaming.

Unaware of herself, Linda shuddered and held herself, staring into the fire. That had been the day her left eye had been injured. She had had to wear bandages over it for a good many years, and when Riku had first seen her, just as Darian had died, she was still wearing the bandages.

The flames and embers hurt her eye, and she screamed in pain. She couldn't hear her parents, so she assumed they were either dead or had escaped and left her behind to die. The burning boards fell on top of her, and she fell unconscious.

Some time later, she awoke, dimly aware that she was someplace cool, her skin burning and her eye on fire. She whimpered, moving slightly, but she could barely move. A female voice said something soothing and started to apply some sort of salve onto her burning skin, and then did something to soother her eye.

"You'll have to wear bandages on your eye for a while, and afterwards, it'll bother you sometimes, but it's healing much more quickly now. You won't be blind," the voice said. Linda turned to look and found herself having her first skewed glimpse of her soon to be dear friend, Sheridan. Her voice didn't want to work, so she merely nodded, and then closed her eyes, feeling an uncontrollable desire to sleep.

Linda shivered this time, and just closed her eyes, leaning back against the tree, trying to will away the memories. Her parents had indeed left her to die that day, and she had hunted them down and killed them after she had found out that Darian was dead too. Then she'd gone in search of Riku. It was funny how things turned out sometimes, and Linda wasn't sure she liked how some of them worked out. Scrubbing at her left eye absently, she sighed and tried to fall back asleep, not wanting to deal with the memories, or with anyone else at the moment for that matter.

All night staring at the ceiling
Counting the minutes I've been feeling this way
So far away and so alone

((Hope this post is alright.))

The assassin noticed Selene fingering the blade of her knife. While he was getting tired of the fight, it was only because nothing was happening! He expected Selene to be cocky from her theatrical like moves. However, she hadn’t been that way. Thus, what Riku thought would be a quick fight turned into a “Who the hell is making the next move?” fight. Oh how I hate those! His hands moved across the blades, waiting for something to happen. Unfortunately, while something did happen, it hadn’t been what he wanted. As Selene called Linda over, he glared at her. What are you doing getting her involved? Didn’t I already tell you what would happen if you did a dirty trick? However, what happened wasn’t necessarily a dirty trick. If anything, the assassin felt it was a cop out.

As Linda came over, she seemed to stumble. His body instinctually moved a small step forward. However, the princess held her up. This caused him to relax slightly. But, his blades still extended out, ready for this to turn dirty at a moment’s notice. An eyebrow rose as Selene asked Linda a question. The confused Linda looked at him, his own expression mirroring a bit of confusion. However, his confusion drew upon the fact Selene was asking such questions to Linda. Wouldn’t it better to ask that of someone that has seen that whole thing, like Mina for example? Then again, those three would have a very big biases...Mina was Selene’s bodyguard, Meiun was Mina’s lover, and Miron was Selene’s lover. If those weren’t reasons for them to have a bias, then the assassin didn’t want to be right.

Soon, Linda answered Selene’s question. However, the confusion was evident in her words and tone as she wondered why they were fighting. While he didn’t like royals, he had nothing against Selene personality wise. She seemed nice and such. But, that niceness and caring nature could be taken advantage of easily. He had seen it done many times…and even did it himself a couple of times. Riku would never admit to the fact he didn’t like manipulating others. It never settled well for him when he had to get innocents involved in his jobs. Sometimes though, the assassin had no choice. It was either getting them involved, or never getting the target. Unfortunately, the latter is not allowed under any circumstances.

Before Riku could answer Linda, Selene answered for him. An interesting opportunity? I guess it is, considering if you fought me under normal circumstances, I would be doing my best to make sure you didn’t live. The frown had not gone unnoticed by Riku. However, his mind was still too much in assassin mood to feel the urge to comfort her. Also, since Selene seemed to be doing it for him, that gave him more reason to stay put. As the princess commented on the showy moves, he nodded slightly. Really? Like that wasn’t obvious. His mouth moved to say something when Linda spoke up. The red pools glared a little as she pointed out something that annoyed him. You think I would be that out of it? That is why the other three are around to make sure that didn’t happen! Plus, it is better to test her now than later.

In his moment of annoyance, Riku hadn’t noticed the dark look going over her eyes. But, he had heard her words. “Well, since you have shown that you can fight, you can take first watch Selene. However, I feel we need to work on your fighting a little. While showy moves can intimidate some, it will not intimidate many. Plus, most of those moves have obvious weaknesses that can be easily exploited.” That is why they are considered showy, because they are unnecessary. You can easily do the same thing without looking like you are trying to impress someone. “So, you can either practice with me or one of the others. For now, I think I’m going to out into the forest for a bit. I need some time to myself.” His eyes briefly glanced at Linda, noticing her glaring at the ground. He took it as her needing alone time as well, soon entering the forest.

His hands brushed against the wood of the trees as he passed bythem. Memories tried to flood his mind as his hands gripped unto a tree, climbing up it with ease. His body lied against the tree limb, using the shadows around him to conceal his location. Now, I can allow myself to remember things. Thus, Riku allowed himself to drown in his memories. However, one in particular came into mind.

“Dominick! Hurry the hell up! We don’t got all day!” Riku jumped across the trees limbs, keeping an eye on his new partner behind him. He had left his house and family that day. Admittedly, while Riku wasn’t sure why the male had decided to go along with him, he was grateful for it. They were able to get along and worked well together. Thus, the assassin looked forward to doing jobs with Dominick. However, he didn’t like the fact his partner was being slow for some reason. “Sorry Riku! I just…I just got a bad feeling…Like, something bad is about to happen.” The assassin raised an eyebrow as he jumped unto a tree limb, Dominick soon standing on a tree limb parallel to his own. “Why do you feel that way? Never took you to be a man who believed in gut feelings.” Riku noticed the nervous look in his partner’s eyes as he climbed up the tree.

Riku followed and they were now able to see over the trees, allowing them to see all across the forest they were in. ”Normally, I am not. But, you know how I said my parents are not so great right?” The assassin nodded. He remembered Dominick telling him how his parents weren’t so loving. That they thought his sister Linda was useless, and were quite angry at Dominick’s choice to follow Riku. “Well, I am just worried that they will do something to my sister. After all, they didn’t insult her and such while I was around. You know, because they didn’t want to “piss” me off.” The assassin chuckled slightly, looking towards the direction they had come from. “I still don’t get why they are so afraid of you. It isn’t like you are an assassin…” He heard Dominick chuckle at that, a grin on forming on both of their faces. “Well, I am now, aren’t I?” Riku nodded, but soon they both noticed something that soured their moods.

They could see smoke rising up in the distance. At that moment, Riku jumped over to a tree limb nearby Dominick. He could tell his partner wanted to go back. His hands placed themselves on his shoulders, keeping Dominick from running off. “We don’t have time to go back.” However, when Dominick looked at him, Riku frowned and moved his hands off his shoulders. “But, if you start to hate me, then our partnership won’t work out. So, lets get this over with.” He nodded and they sat back off towards Dominick’s house, hoping the fire wasn’t a warning of far worse things…

The red pools opened and briefly looked around him, making sure no one had snuck up on him. Once he was sure he was ok, Riku closed his eyes and allowed the memory to continue.

Riku noticed someone pulling out a girl from the burning house. His partner ran towards her, crouching down behind her. “Linda! You alright?” The assassin ran over, looking down at Linda for the first time. Her left eye was injured, but it didn’t look like it was beyond repair. Other than that, she appeared to be unconscious with some bruises marring her skin. “She will be fine. I and the others will get her treatment and a place to rest.” Riku nodded and patted Dominick’s shoulder. “Come on. They will take care of your sister while we are gone. We can come back and check up on her once we are done.” He could tell his partner was reluctant to leave his sister’s side, but he eventually stood up. Then, the two ran back into the forest, ready for theis first job together as assassin partners.

While his eyes stayed closed, the assassin felt himself coming back into reality. But now, sleep wanted to come over him. I should head back to camp first…However, Riku felt too groggy to move. Thus, he allowed sleep to overtake him and to enter the world of dreams once more, as he stayed high up in the trees.

Selene

Selene nodded at Riku before answering his offer.

"I'm always willing to learn, so if you teach me, I'll try to be a good student," she said, and then left the relative warmth of the campfire to go sit at the edge of the camp, trying to figure out what was troubling Linda. Sighing softly to herself, Selene admitted that bringing Linda to her side had been a dangerous idea, but she wouldn't admit that she had been getting just a little frustrated and worn out. Riku was right. All those showy moves that she had learned for competition were just that, showy. And they would get her killed.

"I won't let anyone kill you, love," Miron said with a smile as he sat by her side. His tail wrapped around her and pulled her close, and she snuggled close greatfully.

"I know that you won't, but it's still a danger. I will take whatever lessons that Riku has to offer. He's sensible and would know things that I need to know. I was overconfident," she said with a slight grin, but then returned to looking, watching. Miron smiled and actually settled in to sleep, letting her do her watch before she woke him for his.
