Though her body had been instinctively reacting to the music's fueling climax--quicker movements with grander embellishment-- she had partially lost sight that Jace was the one leading here. Her mistake was quickly corrected as he swooped her in. In surprise, she gave the smallest exlcamation: 'Oop!' as her focus was snapped onto the man. Twould have been dangerous otherwise; she needed to pay attention as she was spun about, and finally dipped down with delighted laughter. Caught off-guard, yes, but most certainly entertained. Her hands held tight as she was pulled back up onto her feet. The grip relaxed as she found her balance once more.

An'.. I'll take note that he enjoys surprisin' me. Certainly a good thing to keep in mind.

"Ca c'est bon! Where di' you learn t' dance so beautifully, ma belle Miana?"

Mmm, well, she should have expected that question sooner or later. Not minding a break from the dance floor after two rounds, she agreed to resting her hand lightly upon Jace's forearm and let herself be led away. It gave her a chance to reach up with slender fingers and brush a few strands back away from her face. The hand fell along the line of her cheek, eventually slipping behind her neck to lightly lift the hair off her shoulders to fix how it fell.

The background commentary rustled back to life: Heh. Talk your way out of that one. With pleasure.

'Mm,' she murmured softly, as the shreds and sentiments of an old, obscure fairytale once more passed through her memory as if caught on an autumn wind. A small clockwork ballerina that a close acquaintance had once mentioned to her.

'Well, apparently women graceful on and off the dance floor are coveted.'
She imagined the lifelike little doll a toymaker had dedicated his life to, and then the memory passed completely. 'And an old acquaintance of mine believed in creating a partner when one couldn't be found.' She laughed warmly. Before the waiter could leave, the blue-haired woman touched a hand lightly on the NPC's shoulder. A quick, hushed order for the menu of spirits sent the man on his way with a nod. Then she would take her seat and give him a grateful smile for the water.

'Ah, thank you. But what about yourself, Jace? It takes some practice to lead a woman like that.'
Sipping at the icy drink, she'd watch him with a seemingly innocent curiosity over the rim of the crystal.

A young girl of eight, who obviously didn't look as though she should be wandering amongst these mountains of testosterone, pushed her way through the living forest of legs and hips while clutching her black cat plushie to her chest, looking for someone in particular.

Her big blue eyes didn't need to even look around at the people she was bumping into, she would know when she found him. At least until her eyes found something she never thought she'd see.

Her big blue eyes slowly moved down to her plushie in her arms, then up at a person who looked like her plushie, then back down at it then up once more.

A smile that stretched from ear to ear as she forgot who she was looking for as she began to run towards the creature and let out a screech "KITTY!!!" Providing nothing stopped her, she would collide with the leg of her black, furry target.

Shadow let out an involuntary yelp of shock when something small collided with her leg and held on tightly. Her previous emotions quickly subsided as confusion set in. Her amber eyes fell down on a small human-looking child.

Shadow quickly looked around to see who might have lost the child. No one seemed to be looking for her. Shadow's eyes once again fell on the bright red hair atop her head and knelt, putting both of her hands on the child's shoulders, looking into her surprisingly bright blue eyes.

Shadow cleared he throat so as not to sound too harsh, after all she had just been growling, "Sweetie, who is here with you?"

Drejak's focus was shattered like someone had thrown a brick through the glass window of his mind. His ears laid back at the shrill yell from an unknown source, and he turned to look at Shadow to see if she'd heard it.

Much to his surprise, a young human child was clutched in Shadow's grasp and she was talking to the girl. Drejak followed suit, and knelt beside them to get a closer look.

He had never before seen such a small human. He looked at her hair, and furless arms, and wondered to himself.

"They're so strange..." he whispered as he looked her over.

Enjoyed it. Thrived on it. Could be trusted to take the worst possible opportunities, from a lady's perspective at least, to take advantage of it. A spark glinted in Jace's cobalt eyes as he quenched his thirst, the cold water deliciously refreshing against his tongue. He lifted his hand, using the back of his thumb to brush any stray droplets from his lips as his gaze narrowed faintly on Miana, contemplating her answer. Careful attention would be paid to the subtle changes that befell her expression while the beauty reflected.

To be quite honest, Jace didn't know what to make of the woman's response. It seemed troubling to him, but the laugh that followed sounded genuine. Could have been that she was simply quite practiced at putting on a smile.

But those questions could be stored away for another night; now was not the time for gloomy conversation. The Acadien watched as his consort requested a menu of the waiter, thoroughly pleased with her charms. Once her attention returned, with a question attached, Jace replied with a low chuckle.

"Picked up a little here, a little dere. It helps to have a well stocked bag of tricks, be ready for anyt'in', no?"

"Where's the brackets?"

"Where's the brackets?"

"Where's the brackets?"

"Where's the brackets?"

"Where's the brackets?"

"Where art thou brackets?"

"Brackets where?"

Midus had enough. He was tired of being rampaged by constant pestering of impatient people asking where the brackets were. He gave them a ball, a place where they can get free food and enjoy themselves like civilized people, and yet, they throw down all his expectations and doubt that they were more than just roguish bloodthirsty fighters. The investors were right. The roster of people were nothing more than just gladiators covered in formal clothing.

The man stood up and walked to the railing of the balcony, overlooking the party that was a mixture of peace and chaos. From thrown tables to dancing pairs, it was all a parody of life; Gaian life. He rose his right hand and let his voice reach across the entire room, the tone booming like the roar of a lion.

"SILENCE."

The drums stopped. The people halted. Eyes directed themselves toward the host as he demanded their attention. Lowering his arm, he glared along the room as he spoke.

"First, I will like to thank all of you for coming out this evening and enjoying this lovely ball. Despite a few interruptions, the dinner has went on at a smooth pace...with a few bumps in the road. Throughout this entire evening, a few people have been coming up to me and continued to ask where the brackets are. Patience is a virtue one must have if they wish to be rewarded. However, the lack of patience among a few of you disappointed me, as all I asked was for you all to enjoy one evening without even a thought of violence in your mind."

He paused to gather his breath.

"But it seems that human nature...no...the nature of a fighter cannot be changed. And for that..."

"I am pleased. I am pleased to see that the participants of this tournament come with passion that cannot be distilled by that of the masses."

The investors were looking at Midus with surprised expressions. How dare he encourage their behavior with such praise.

"I am pleased that come tomorrow, you sixty four will show to the world your art of combat that is not just an expression of violence...but that of yourselves. And so, I am happy to introduce to you the brackets for this year's Gaian Tenkaichi Budokai. Lights."

The lights in the ballroom dimmed as a large screen dipped down over where the band were. All eyes fell upon the lit screen as painted upon it flashed the first round's matchup.

GTB IV Brackets

"You all are free to stay for the final two hours of this ball. But I advise all fighters to get a good night's rest. For tomorrow, begins the true test of your might. Good night."

Midus then turned and exited the room via an alternate exit on the upper floor.

The "dark elf" guy takes the momentary interruption as a golden opportunity to get a head start on plan-z: bolt for an exit! Attendees, momentarily distracted by the brackets will soon notice the guy, actually a fighter, shown on the very bottom right as "no name given", brush and/or bump past them in a very hasty manner towards the nearest emergency exit before he has to get his pickax prematurely bloody.

And somewhere, at the far end of the ball chamber, someone shook his fist in anger as Midus Sonners made his speech.

Esouna had been more or less idling around the refreshments table, keeping to herself and noshing on energy-dense foods. When the announcement of the brackets appeared, though, she quickly diverted her attention to look. Well, actually, she didn't turn her head or anything; she just paid more attention to the view from her sensory wings.

The large bracket sat far away enough so that the fairy couldn't read the words very well, and thus, it would take half a minute for her to find her name. Aha! Over by the "L". And her opponent...she didn't recognize the name, so Esouna chose not to think about it too hard. For now, she should just store up some energy...then probably meditate at night, but that was boring as hell, so, replace that with extra sleeping.

The fairy turned around, to fit in with everyone else and look with her regular eyes.

Now, as the "dark elf" guy runs headlong into an emergency door with his hands in front of him, the bar goes in, the door yields, and now the building is filled with the annoying buzz of the alarm, hoping to outrun ASSISTANT supervisor Steve, who is likely wading through the guests to find the guy who posed as a health inspector to get inside without a lot of attention, then tried to pass it off as a prank, and Steve probably has murder on his mind by now.

Robyn kept her hand on Rylen's shirt collar, sliding her hand forward to tug him from the side this time. Her reaction was not unfounded; she knew the half-wolf well enough that he could easily get distracted and jump in to the fight, consequences be damned. "Honestly Ry, you're practically droolin'." The fox girl rolled her eyes, finally releasing her friend. She took her own glance back, shuddering slightly. "Really hope neither of us have to fight that guy; damn creepy, he was."

Sighing, she turned back to Rylen, crossing her arms and looking very unladylike despite her outfit. "Won't they just release the damn brackets already?" Her expression softened, and she chuckled. "I don' want to have to worry 'bout you." Not that she was implying that he couldn't handle himself, just that she was worried of some unexpected thing happening during this increasingly chaotic event.

And speak of the devil...

Her ears flicked as Midus began his speech, finally ending with a full display of the matchups. Her name was second, easily found. But first was...the fox blinked, eyes widening. If she hadn't had good recall, she wouldn't have had a clue who this guy was. But she remembered Midus calling a certain name out, to fight against someone else she hadn't known.

So. She was fighting against Omi. Seemingly with no other reaction at first, she blinked, processing. Then slowly, her eyes closed and her hand came up to rub the bridge of her nose, tail lashing behind her. Now, whether it was a phrase of annoyance or despair, not even Robyn was sure.

Sighing, she raised her head again, scanning the rest of the brackets. "Sorry, Ry, don't know the guy you're fightin'....Do you?"

Grisaang Duskwing

PostPosted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 7:33 pm

Just another step. Only a bit closer... Grisaang's reach was almost upon Saphen. His undead maw salivating at the thought of the man's crimson essence flooding from his veins.

So close... I can taste it...

And then, the glass Grisaang had been chewing on only moments before fell to the floor and shattered. The screech of an all-too-familiar voice rung in his ears.

"KITTY!!!"

She's here? Why!? How!?

Hundreds of questions ran through his mind, and his blood-red eyes scoured the crowd for her presence.

It was then that his eyes fell upon the animal-like couple. The two were holding the young girl... Might she be in danger!?

Grisaang erased all thought of his hunger from his mind, and in a stride that would seem to manifest instantly, he covered the expanse of floor to reach the young girl and the anthropomorphic duo.

His firm, calm voice came across to their ears carrying a viciously protective air. He glared at them over the rims of his glasses, and wrapped his right hand loosely around the girl. The gloved extremity came to rest upon her chest.

"Excuse me, but thank you for finding my little one," his head tilted in a suggestive manner. The thought, or reaction it was suggesting to Shadow, was that she remove her hands from the child lest she lose a limb.

"Now, I thank you, again, and unless you feel you have any more harassment to bestow upon us, we will kindly ask you to excuse us as we must take our leave." He would hesitate a moment, to allow them a chance to explain themselves or attempt to make an excuse or apology, before he would turn both himself and Raelyn away from them.

Seth was at the bar taking another drag of his cig. He handled himself quite well for a tipsy man. The brackets would be displayed/announced. Seth wasn't in the mood to deal with such things right now.

".....Jurie...."

Pushing it through his teeth in a smear manner. Sucking his teeth the idea of fighting a person, which he assumed to be a chick. This would be the second tournament in a row he had to fight a chick first round. Maybe this time he wouldn't be so lucky. Bringing the cig up to his lips he takes a final drag before grinding it into the counter top. <******** this....

"WHHHAAATTT THHHEE FUUUCCCKKK!! " He yelled, his arms flailed up hitting folks around him. Either his vision was off, or everyone around him looked abit weird.

Faustina's attentions were torn from her companions as a loud and mighty voice boomed over the hall, her eyes widening as the GTB's proprietor began to speak. "...The brackets...!" she murmured softly, then quickly turned to grab a napkin and franticly motion to the bartender for a pen. Snatching it hastily from his fingers, she mumbled "excuse me" to Vince and Cyrus, then quickly rushed back out into the crowded hall, there to stand in anxious anticipation of the brackets.

She didn't pay much heed to the other stuff he was saying, particularly since it really had very little to do with her own actions, but when the screen dropped down and the brackets flashed before the crowd, pen and napkin immediately rose up before her, ready to take notes. Her eyes scanned quickly across the brackets, found her father, and in turn deft fingertips scrawled the name of his opponent down on the napkin. Turning, she slipped back into the bar just long enough to drop off the pen, then replied with a hasty bow to her two companions, "Forgive me, I must find my father!" Turning to Vince, she added, "Please extended my sincerest apologies to Mr. Barsait. I shall make it up to him in the future."

That said, she turned and fled the scene, scrambling through the crowd for the entrance to the hall. She knew her father wasn't around to see the brackets, and so she had to make quick work to ensure he'd receive the news before the following day.
