Because a plainsclothed trooper is just a soldier out of uniform. You'd need someone with covert training.

Fine, there has to be someone on the ship that can hold a blaster to my back.

You do realise that if you have to have a gun held to your back, things will get suspicious on planet. More importantly, the reason why i'm sending your smuggler out is so that nobody comes up with the great idea to just simply take your ship and force you to do manual labor instead, while someone trusted goes and gets the stuff.
Plus, later on, we're going to beconsidered wanted men, whereas your smuggler isn't an official part of the ship. Ergo, he's clean from any imperial bounties affiliate with the Resolve's desertion.

I was speaking figuratively. Plus, I could have contacts on the planet. Ways to get you want you want without arousing suspicion. Thats alot of Kolto. And its not like I have the money. I don't except to be trusted enough right now to be allowed to go alone and be given credits.
Thats basiclly an Get out of Jail Free card, plus your paying me. Whats to keep me from selling whatever ship you ripped the hyperdrive out of, and using the credits you gave me to buy myself away off planet. Or hell, I could negotiate a deal with the Imperials on having my file cleared, and tell them where you are.
Someone has to go down there with me. Someone who would kill me if they had too.

You could tell the imps where we were, but what would happen when it turned out nobody was there where you told them? You'd wind up in a bitter pile of poodoo than originally.

To be honest, if it wasn't a PC, there's nothing from us tossing you into an escape pod and chucking you out into space without your ship and just use that for credits.
As for the Kolto, I'd be hard pressed to think you'd have the ability to buy it anyway, or know what's good vs. bad stock. Of course, the second I drop my name to prove it's authorized, we're IDed... so we're probably stuck bribing people anyway for it. If we could get to Tyferra, I could pull family strings a bit, but sadly, that's a ways off.

Theres always ways to cut deals, get quality product and remain anonymous. Its gonna cost though. And you can come along to check the goods before we buy. Could take a day or two though. Just use an alias.
As for the first part, well, there is always use for a smuggler who knows his way around, especially for folks in your situation.

We send the Supply Officer that doubles as security, that way we can handle the barter off of equipment for money for the kolto. We'll have to sell some spares and so forth because we don't have much in the way of credits.

*snicker* me leave the ship? You've been watching too much star trek Des. I don't have the experience for covert operations. I'm a doctor, not a spy. Not to mention, the alias wouldn't work on something like this. Someone would need to forge the entire identity on the liscence to buy medicinal drugs. The entire deal has to go under the table off the records to start with.
Quartermaster has to go for the reason he knows the market value of equiptment. Gotta send a med tech to verify we're not getting a bad batch and verify the liscence. probably a couple heavy lifters to load tihs stuff.

I wasnt talking about making a legal purchase, and I dont watch bloody Star Trek. I was saying you go so you can verify it. But with there still being wounded, I don't think you could spare the 2 days anyhow.
Okay, so me, Rodyn, and a med-tech. Loading will be handled by the supplier.
Cale: Hmmm......sexy woman love a dangerous man. I don't think grease stains are their thing Cale. Sorry mate.

Maybe if I had a hot rod ship. I suppose that one down in storage would work quite well. Not like anyone else is going to use it.
