Ties. "The Pink Man" (as Cale called him) is too busy running his gambling/drug running/ racketeering/ prostitution/ protection/ small arms dealing/ diamond smuggling/ puppy kicking ring to own a set of pirates. My thought is that he was going to be very Depression era gangster.

Ah. So it'd be a case of exchanging services. He gives them goods, and they provide him with protection, on a mercenary basis, or act as collection agencies?
Or does he just work solo, and be the go to guy for illegal stuff, dealing with everyone?

Works solo. He already has a criminal operation with his own men. He's just the go to guy for illegal operations.
The pirate things works more like this: They bring him goods to sell, and he gets them sold with a cut of the stakes as well as find any less than legal goods that the pirates may want or need. Also pirates need to relax sometime right? Why not relax at one of my fine gambling establishments and spend money on one of my high quality (or not so high quality depending on how much money you have) escorts.

Works good for them. I won't actively be using them, since I'm commited to the Sector Rangers and the Empire, but it's nice to know the relationship

Figures that sooner or later, someone would come in and try to challenge my weapons dealings.

I'm not really going to challenge it so much. Although I do plan on trying to make a deal with your character for a cut of his profits.

I hope it's not one of those "protection" deals. It'd be a little pointless...

Nah, more like opening up markets and giving you more buyers. My guy is connected, you want high end buyers? He can give them to you, for a price. Besides arms dealing is more of a side thing. The real money is in the "sin" services (gambling, drugs, prostitution, etc.) He is a Zeltron after all.

I'll trade you one bodyguard for that nice twi'lek a** over there....
Technically, i do have high end buyers. Moffs, Councilmen.... But nothing says i can't pad the wallet more. I might even get you some of those nice ores from the mining guild for some nicer "shiney".
Still debating clawdite or echani though.

The Black Syndicate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The local pirate group, operating in an asteroid field not far from the local black hole.
The BS is the local pirate group, claiming the entire sector as their hunting ground. A bit on the rough side, even for pirates, if given the chance they will always prey on the unfamiliar, before hitting up the locals.
Working from their asteroid base, a shadowport named The Hole, the Syndicate operates a small ragtag fleet for it's privateering:
1 Interceptor-class Frigate Abyss 1 Light Corvette 1 Crusader Corvette 4 Katarn-class Boarding Shuttles 1 Action VI Transport 1 Squadron GAT-12 Skipray Blastboats 1 Squadron BLT Y-Wings 1 Squadron Z-95 Headhunter 1 Squadron C-73 Tracker Starfighter 10 Security Droids
The symbol for the organization is a black circle, with four dark blue arms encircling it

Too big, or good?

Thats too damn big. You have four squadrons of fighters and none of your ships can haul them or pick them up. And the Skiprays are too much for you to have a whole squadron. Talon Karrde's organization was the size of Jabba's during the Thrawn Campaign and he could only afford three at the most. A squadron of Skiprays can kill probably every PC controlled naval group in the sector.
Limit yourself to two squadrons, neither can be the skiprays. Then you aught to be ok.

Would there be any problem with my character having an Assault Gunboat?
To be specific, it's modified, taking out the warheads, leaving just the laser and ion guns, with a rotating laser turret on the underside in place of it having warhead capacity used for anti-warhead defense, with maybe better speed and shields than normal. It still wouldn't be all that impressive, just able to out-fight its normal counterpart.
You remember the Sundered Rose in the CotGCW and Legacy RPs? Basically that all over again.

It's probably gonna be the same setup as the Sundered Rose. Pilot/gunner droid that can do either job, while the character does the other.
