Naida looked a bit confused at that, of course she never did fully understand just how bad Adonijah's habits were. After all, he had his family and his friends (which included her of course).

"But you're not alone, we're here."

"I don't think that's what he meant sweetie..." Feng murmured softly.

She had not realized how that affected Adonijah, but she smiled at least it seemed to her that she was trying.

Adonijah shook his head at Naida's comment.

"No," he murmured, "I am alone ... I always have been ... all my life I have been a-afraid of people ..." He whimpered softly. "And I haven't let anyone get close to me ... not even my own family ..."

He closed his eyes tightly, and a single tear slipped out of the corner of one eye and trickled down his cheek.

"Well we're here, and you haven't gone boltting," Feng pointed out cheerily.

She had to look on the bright side of it, because she knew that Adonijah was probably feeling quite bad about this current state in life. She also had a feeling it was because of the funeral that made him think that way.

Adonijah sniffled and wiped his cheek.

"Th-that's because I-I have to change," he replied in a quavering voice. "I-If I keep - keep running away - I'll - I'll ..."

He would be forever friendless. Out of the more than one hundred people who had attended the funeral, so few of them had spoken without being required to. Would anyone at all speak for him? Or would there even be anyone to bury him?

A tickle rose in the back of his throat, and he tried to cough it away. It only served to jerk more tears from his eyes.

"And we'll all be there to help," Feng replied with a smile.

She in her own grown up way (she had matured after all even though she tended to chose not show it) knew what Adonijah meant.

"And Naida is half right.. and so are you. True, you haven't let us in, but you're not completely alone. We are all here Adoni, waiting for you to let us in, because we really care about you."

Adonijah was surprised by Feng's words, so much that he stared directly at her without flinching away.

"Why?" he asked, completely puzzled. "Why ... care about me? I ... I only ever ... ran away ..."

And screamed and fought to get away from her ... and everyone else ... he had never spoken to her ... ever ... tried never even to look at her ... why in the world would she care about him?

Feng blinked and was utterly bemused by the question. She had to admit Adonijah and her relationship had always been less than ideal, but Adonijah was someone she had always known... sort of.

"So you have an irrational fear of people," Feng shrugged, "It's no reason not to care. I'm use to shy people... it's just you happened to be shyer than most."

Adonijah was amazed. He had never done anything kind to Feng ... had never spoken a civil word to her (or any other kind of word, for that matter), and yet she obviously was worried about him and wanted him to be all right ...

She certainly was ... odd. And he didn't know how to react.

"Oh ..."

He blushed and tried to squeeze closer to the wall so that he could hide himself. It didn't work. Obviously he did not have the talent of melting into walls like certain others of his relation.

"It's alright," Feng assured him knowing he was becoming very shy again.

Not that he wasn't shy before, but well.. he was more shy now.

"Just take baby steps, I'm glad you want to try to get to know people better, but it's okay to take baby steps."

Adonijah wasn't exactly sure what Feng meant by that comment, but he shrugged it off and twisted his light orb so that it dimmed again.

"I'm tired," he murmured, leaning his head back against the wall and closing his eyes.

He wasn't particularly tired, to be honest, but he wanted some silence to think. He was so unused to conversation and contact with other people that he didn't quiet know how to think yet while someone was talking.

Kara looked out the window worriedly as the snow continued to fall, she had not heard anything from Feng or Naida, and while she knew mers could easily sleep in any river, it was finding the said river that worried her more.

They were going to leave today, but with Feng not returning it didn't seem like that would be the case. Donovan had already grown fidgty as a result of Feng still being out there, though he was trying his best to hide it she knew.

Lin, saying that she doubted that Feng would be back in time for them to leave today had left for the barracks a long time ago. She was current there wtih Timaeus still worried about how he was faring.

Arahad had offered to prepare a light lunch for everyone, and so Haradhel found that she had some extra time to do with what she wished for once. At first she had thought to perhaps get some work finished that she hadn't otherwise had time for ... but then she had noticed that Donovan and Kara seemed uneasy.

She of course had already been inside long before the funeral had ended, and she didn't realize Feng and Naida were missing, though she was curious as to why the Gaians were not preparing to leave as they had planned.

"Is something the matter?" she asked them quietly, her expression worried. "You look anxious ..."

After the funeral, Halmir and Arthael had gone out for guard duty, and Timaeus had been left alone with Lin. Not that he minded ... he was still grateful to her for helping him calm down on their first day back from the hunt, and for her help the days following. At the moment he was busy making himself a small lunch. He was much quieter than usual, though he was trying to make Lin feel as if she was wanted, and not being ignored.

"Would you like something?" he asked her, opening a cupboard and looking at her over his shoulder.

"Feng and Naida went after Adonijah," Kara replied looking at Haradhel.

She knew they would be fine, a cold like this was not going to bother mers, but they might need a good long soak if they could not find water tonight.

"He seemed... distrubed and Naida wanted to go after him and Feng was worried, but neither of the three have come back yet."

"Just a bit to eat," Lin replied from where she sat, her legs swinging over the chair. No matter how old she was it was always like that, and she was even still climbing up onto the chairs they were so tall.

Haradhel nodded thoughtfully.

"Well ... they won't get lost, at least," she murmured. "Adonijah knows the area better than anyone ... I think even better than the hunters, and that's saying something. "Poor Adonijah ... he of course knows about death, but this is the first time he's seen it ... and yet I can't help but wonder what's going through his mind."

She smiled at Kara. "Don't worry about them," she said softly. "They'll be all right."

Timaeus nodded and put a kettle of cider over the fire to warm it up.

"Here," he said, bringing a plate over to Lin. "Mother baked some bread this morning, if you'd like some of that ... or there's some dried fruit, I think ... or jerked meat. Or I can cook something up, if you like."

He stood at the edge of the table, leaning on it with his elbows, watching Lin and waiting for her decision.

"I'm sure they will be," Kara agreed.

It wasn't like they were alone by any means, they had each other. She supposed this was the first time she truely did not know what they were up ot. She just hoped Ryu was doing well, they were rarely separated like this.

"I think some bread would be just fine."

It was only lunch, so it wasn't such a big issue really, and she didn't want to be trouble. Which was probably the bigger reason for it.
