She walked in, taking the closest seat. The little girl pulled her small form up onto it as she planted herself down in the chair. Lin giggled, she supposed it shouldn't have been a surprise that he would understand. It had been a common thing for her to do.
"Bye Arwen!" she called after the girl who skipped away before looking up at Elros with a grin, "It was an interesting visit."

"Indeed?" the ancient fighter questioned, taking a seat on one of the chairs by the table. "Would you mind terribly if I asked you to tell me about it? I have to admit, I am ... quite curious to know what happened."
Though his face was expressionless, his eyes glinted with amusement as he leaned forward to listen to Lin's response.

"Well.... first I visited Sir Leith," Lin explained, "And at first, had no clue what he just said, because I've never heard those words before, and he sometimes added these.... other sounds at the end of certain words."
She still could remember being caught completely off guard.
"And I learned a new word... I think I'm going to end up learning a lot of new words around them..."

Elros nodded in understanding.
"Quite possibly," he murmured softly, leaning back in his chair once more. "They do have a way about them."
He paused, then prodded, "And Sir Boudwin?"

Lin blinked and thought about it. Sir Boudwin was a very nice person too... though she had to admit...
"I didn't understand what he was saying neither..."
She paused and thought about it more.
"I still couldn't tell you what he said exactly, only what I know he meant. So I still don't know what he is saying most of the time."

Elros chuckled softly. "Yes ... it has indeed been a long time since he has used either the Westland or Common Tongue ... I find the only way to communicate with him without any difficulty at all, is if I use High Elven, the language of the Southland. He lived there for almost his entire life - helped to form the country, as a matter of fact - so that is the language with which he is at ease."
He nodded thoughtfully. "Yes ... indeed."

"Oh....."
When Lin thought about it, it did add up to what Elrohir had said about them. She thought about it, but it wasn't like they had an accent or anything, it seemed like a form of talking.
"Did people use to talk like that a long time ago?" she finally asked, the question flying out of her mouth just as it had formed.

"I would imagine so," Elros mused, "though you would have to ask Aragost for the details. When the elves were mixed, Light and Dark elves living together, there was no such thing as the common tongue ... after the divide I lived amongst the Western elves, and I myself did not learn the common tongue until only a while ago. Why it is the way it is now, and no longer the way Sirs Leith and Boudwin speak it, I know not."

"But what about humans and dwarves? Didn't they need Common Tongue to talk to each other and the elves or did they not exist until after everyone decided to live apart?" Lin had to ask.
She hadn't thought about Common Tongue being the result of the elves living apart, she thought it was the result of the other two races. Though when she thought about it, it did make sense that the other elves had to talk to each other.

Elros shook his head slowly.
"I do not know when the humans or dwarfs were created," he admitted; "Again, you would have to ask Aragost. The Valar told him more than they told anyone else, and to this day I believe that if he were ever to die, most of the secrets of this world would be lost. I wonder sometimes if there is anything that he does not know."

Lin thought about it, and when she really thought about it, it turned out to be a very good question actually. She had always taken Aragost's knownledge for granted, for he always seemed to know well... everything.
"It doesn't seem like it," Lin admitted, "Not just in questions, but.. he always seems to know enough to not be surprised. I kind of just take it as a fact now, but at first him knowing so much was kind of creepy."

Elros chuckled softly. "I know the feeling. You must remember, Lin, that there was a time when I was just meeting him for the first time, as well. Now, I warrant that he was not as ... dark ... then as he is now, but he was just as omniscient, I promise you that. He was ..."
He trailed off, drifting into memories that played before his eyes.

He was kind of getting that look, you couldn't tell, but the eyes were all the same. She tilted her head slightly, she couldn't help but wonder what Aragost was like before he became well... Aragost. Though actually Aragost wasn't dark or anything, at least not around her and the other children most of the time. If she had not met him in that first meeting she might have never had noticed.
"Hard to describe?"

"Hard to describe?" Elros repeated thoughtfully. "No ... not really ... just vastly different from what he is today."
He chuckled softly. "My mother told me I hero-worshiped him ... I probably did. To some degree I'm certain that I still do ... after all, he saved not only our race, but our world."
He paused.
"Yet ... for all of his differences ... between then and now ... he is still very much the same," he murmured softly.

Lin grinned at that, she wondered which part was the same. Probably the part when he wasn't being at all scary, at least she thought so. Though, it was hard to imagine Elros hero-worshipping anyone, but... then again it was hard to imagine Elros when he was little.
"That is always good to know," Lin smiled, "Well... lesson time I guess."
