"Had to ask," Pen thought as the Shade disappeared behind the cloud of oddly covered fog. It was clear that this wasn't a normal smokescreen as it crept around them. Regardless what type of smoke bomb it was: tear gas, knock out or more likely poison, Pen covered her mouth with shirt to filter the air.
She nudged the two beside her to make sure they did something similar.

Sabe got surprised and covered his nose and mouth with his uniform top. Nearby, he could hear Waffle wheezing as she did the same. Great. She must've accidentally breathed in the cruddy smoke. Waffle had only taken in a small amount of the poison gas, but her lungs felt heavier already.

Aly pulled up her surgeon's mask, hoping that whatever the gas was. It wasn't able to penetrate the special weaving of her mask. Darn it! I brought this in case of emergencies. So that I wouldn't breath anything onto a open wound when mending! I just hope it works both ways!
She glance around to see that the others had covered up as well. Which was go, since she wasn't much good against a poison she wasn't sure about. Arg, this day just keeps getting worse....

The shade laughed and hopped back into the trees. She shot a few poisoned bolts into the cloud, hoping to hit something, but more to just keep the gang on their toes.

Pen jumped back as a bolt dripping with poison sunk into the ground between her feet. Still facing out from the small group she nudged Waffle.
"Can you use your lighting here?" Though Pen wasn't the biggest Magic fan this was no place for close combat.

Now extremely pissed off, Luciano shouted, "GOD DAMN IT!!" Luciano pulled Michelle and Koji to the ground, and he shouted, "EVERYONE!! GET AS LOW TO THE GROUND AS POSSIBLE!!!" Once he knew everyone was on the ground, Luciano fired multiple shots in every direction- Shade was fast, but NOT fast enough. And he knew this from experience. From all the shots he had fired, he knew one of them at least had to have grazed her, or something. When Luciano was absolutely positive, he gave Michelle and Koji a hard tap on their backs then motioned for them to move forward with him. At the talk of magic being heard, Luciano thought of a plan. He motioned for Michelle and Koji to move ahead, Michelle nodded then pulled Koji along with her, Luciano rolled to Waffle's location and whispered something into her ear; A way to help to stop this battle before it even started.

Aly felt and heard the dart speeding through the air, one hitting her knife blade, the other slicing her arm. "Ssss..."Aly hissed through her mask. She reached into her pocket quickly, with the air as it was. It was dangerous to have an open wound for long.
As she made quick work of the slice, she heard Luciano's command. And stooped low to the ground, while not get down on the dirty flat, which would give her more area to hit.

As quickly as the bolts started falling, they stopped and the shade spoke again.
"You hit me, marine..., it's such a beautiful wound, and the pain is exhilarating! she shouted through the trees.

Waffle and Sabe both hit the ground quickly, and lied flat enough to crawl away. When Luciano rolled next to her and whispered something into her ear, she smiled slightly. She crawled away from her original spot.

As soon as Pen asked Waffle about her magic she was on the ground hearing bullets fly. In doing so she breathed some of the poison in and began to cough. Covering her mouth again she listened as The Shade taunted Luciano, in Lila's normal manner.

As Luciano watched Waffle get to her small position, Luciano began trying to distract The Shade with taunts of his own- How without the Nanites in her body, she was nothing. Luciano prepared for the stunt that himself and Waffle were about to do, he was just hoping the plan would work. He shouted to the group, "Everyone!!!! Prepare to run away!!!"

Sabe heard Luciano's command and was confused until he heard a rustling noise nearby. He turned to the direction of it and saw Waffle getting her orb out of her backpack. Oh, now I see... he thought as he prepared to leave the place immediately.
Waffle had her orb out, powering it. The orb itself was converting the magic energy into something useable should the shield come back up.

Luciano provided more distraction for Waffle, he shot in Shade's general direction, and after each shot he would roll out of that area and continue firing. Between shots, Luciano would throw rocks, or whatever else he could find around him.
