Easy. He's not entirely a fan of imperials. Thereby he wants to be inefficient as possible.
He's an astromech, not a service droid. Its the master's fault for asking the wrong person to do the job in the first place.

He really shouldnt be complaining. He could have been bought by some hick and forced to clean grain bins. as far s droids go he's got a cushy easy job.

It could be worse. He could be a spineless stim-caf addict. C4 is willing to go into areas of enemy fire...

True that. At least he would probably remember something if told more than once, especially something mission critical.

He'd remember it exactly after one time.
That, and without a true emotion chip, he's also devoid of being intimidated or other things which would otherwise cause someone to cave in....
Probably quicker to repair than a humanoid can heal up too...

Droid Health care: "Oh, this part is blasted to crap. Lets steal a replacement and bolt it on."
organic Health care: "looks like we'll have to amputate that. Sorry but we dont have the cash or resources to get you a prosthetic."
I'll have to agree with you on that.

Plus, nobody expects you to do anything more than your job, so you only need to meet quotas, rather than going above and beyond.

On the downside, you're the first guy they leave behind, and usually not in one piece.

I might have to have someone sketch me that image. (Or just do it myself) Charr mounted on a grazing Cracian thumper munching jerky and reading a map.
