"You don't have to act so hostile toward me." Aven stood up and stretched, adding a yawn in at the last moment. "I mean, I am the one taking care of Dalcon for you." She shook her head slowly at Reeve. "And I'm not going to be giving him back for a while longer. None of you are ready yet."

Reeve cocks an eyebrow at her statement. "Hostile? Darlin', you've yet to see hostile. You bring my son to me else you will."

"I've told you I wont. It's not time yet." She folded her arms at Reeve while shifting her weight to one side. "That's the end of that discussion. Now, I need some information from you."

"What makes you say it isn't time? What do you need to know from me?" Reeve's voice, although angry, holds a very plaintive note.

"It isn't time because you wont know how to deal with him while he's maturing. Not in the emotional sense, but in the fact of his having a youkai blood-line." She continues to eye Reeve though the cat has moved down into Aven's folded arms. "Now, what I need to know from you is everything you can tell me about what you are and what you're capable of. Not as a ninja, mind you."

Reeve crosses his arms, sighs and looks up at the ceiling. "My father was a fox demon, and through him, when I was born I was given latent power- foxfire. However, nothing awakened the flame until I first came here, and was given a scroll that was possessed by a witch's evil spirit. That took hold of me and lit the flame, but it manifested itself in the form of Amae, a different personality who takes over when I use foxfire too much. I don't know if that's because of the scroll, or the fact that it's demonic power. My mother was a normal human being, so that makes me half-fox, and Dalcon a quarter. I don't know if that will lessen his reaction to foxfire, but if it does, it's probably a good thing."

"Okay, that tells me a little bit. But what exactly can you do? What sort of thing is this 'foxfire'?" Aven continues to stare at Reeve, barely taking the time to blink.

Reeve holds out his hand, palm up, and a green ball of flame ignites there, as his eyes glow to match the flame. "It is...what I will it to be. It's generally like fire, but it doesn't burn unless I want to use it for that purpose. It can take shapes, exert force...it also acts like a boost for any other technique, increasing destructive power. I find it's most useful for that, and for making barriers, as Sarya can tell you. Used to be that's what I did at the first sign of trouble- put a barrier around her."

Aven nods slowly. Quietly she moves her hand gently on the cat's head. "I see. And is that all?"

"I don't know," he says simply. "Foxfire is adaptable and usable in many ways- it's like it evolves with the experience of the user."
