Meta_Fish I really like the DK pallete swap I saw. He looks like the abominable snowman. Meta Knight's evil one is pretty cool, too. I'd like costumes, but the pallete swap system keeps from confusion, maybe? I don't think I'd like a complete Shadow costume, because it would still say "Sonic" when you finished the match, and have Sonic's voice. Some characters would have a lot of costumes, and some wouldn't have many. You know, I don't really care about the voices and names, I want the costumes. Maybe not Mecha Sonic, but Shadow would be cool. Just nothing too extreme or different.

With completely different characters that just have similar body structures, it would be a bit confusing for the people fighting against them, as they would have different looking animations. It would work out, but I just don't know. I think I'd draw the line as Shadow and Silver. Maybe not even Silver, because he's all psychic powers, omg. I dunno. Whatever they do would work out fine, I believe. Not all characters could really have unique costumes. Diddy could have different hats and shirts, I guess. Here. Watch videos from the past two or three days in all of these links. Don't forget to go back pages, with the 'previous entries' link.

Smash Bros. has been delayed in Japan until January 24, 2008.
Nintendo shows a new trailer. Sonic is going to be a playable character! The trailer shows him transforming into Super Sonic.
The game will include online fights. In addition, it will have online cooperative play of some form.

Thanks... ninja I think at most, you might get a shadow-like costume, but not a shadow costume. Sort of like how Mario has a luigi-like costume/color scheme. Of course, if they include Wario's yellow and purple duds as an alternate, who knows.. *shrug* We'd have to see.
