@Wiz and Itakio: Sonic will be easier to counter than you guys think. He's essentially entirely close combat based, so all you really need I would think is to be able to shoot him while he's charging you, or have someone with a quick close combat strike that isn't too close to their body. Think of it along the lines of Jigglypuff's rollout or Pichu/Pikachu's skullbash: They hurt a lot if you get hit by it, and it moves quite fast, but a well timed hit can still get them.

@ The whole Luigi topic: You can't wipe Luigi from brawl, plain and simple. He's been playable since the beginning and as such can't really be pulled from the game. Same with the likes of Jigglypuff. It's like they're filling a quota or something.

Just because he's a "close combat" character doesn't mean ranged wtfpwns him. Just look at C. Falcon. In the advanced game, he's on the upper part of the tier list, yet he has no ranged attacks. Also, the fact that Sonic's spindash can be risen/ canceled into a jump opens up a window of many opportunities that Pikachu and Jigglypuff didn't have. Sonic's speed really makes up for his lack of ranged attacks.

But at the same time, I doubt he will inflict much damage per hit.

We haven't really seen a good example of his per-hit damage anyway. LEt's face it, the guy who was playing Sonic (assuming it wasn't computer controlled) sucked. Most of the gameplay videos sucked. Not because of the game, no. The players themselves, sucked.

Anyway. Yeah, I've said my piece, sort of. I'm just not sure what to say now. sweatdrop

I didn't actually see many moves that sent enemies flying a long way. No doubt we haven't seen his full repertoire yet, but it's pointless to speculate until we do know them all.

They said he would be hard to control, so it would be expected that the guys playing him for the first time would have no idea what to do, while the other characters are compatible with past melee experience.

I think his damage output will be lower, but the number of hits he will get in due to his speed, I believe, will be higher than the more powerful characters.

But... What about regular smash attacks? We havn't seen what any of those look like, have we?

Not for some characters.
Final Smashes are more interesting to me, anyway. We know a lot of characters' special attacks.

But with the newcommers we don't know how their smash moves will work, which are a lot more commonly used. I'm curious of the quickness of them, which character send you the furthest.


Final Smashes only come once in a while. Smash Attacks are forever.

I would also like to see some smash attacks. In the advanced melee, other than for recovery, special attacks were usually only used if they could be canceled somehow, because for the most part they were hella laggy and very punishable if they missed. Special attacks just seem more interesting because they have properties that look fun and useful at first. Some are. Some aren't.

Final Smashes only come once in a while. Smash Attacks are forever.
True, but it seems Final Smashes are more creative and bigger. Special attacks are cool, too, but we know a lot of them. Veteran fighters will have similar, if not identical special attacks, as well, and we don't know what a lot of them will have for Final Smashes.

Yes, normal smash attacks are in brawl! And yes, i want Luigi return cause he was in it from the beginning. But i just really hope that Ganondorf will return and his final smash could be he turns into the great beast ganon or the ganon from Ocarina of Time.

Everyone knows smassh attacks are in brawl. that's part of the revolution melee set up, they would sooner take mario out of a smashs bros. game than smash attacks.

I didn't say he's out, nor do I want him to be. (Okay, i did say he wasn't there, and I have played regular SSMB, and Melee, I just don't own it. stare ). I just said that they haven't showed him and yet and for some goddamn reason he was a costume for Mario. I don't really get it either.
Besides, I'd choose Luigi over Mario any day.
About Sonic. Sonic is a fast character, and a good counter would be Samus or Pikachu. If Samus can avoid him long enough, she can charge up her blast, and unleash right in time when Sonic Charges in. As for Pikachu, this is more for me. I have a knack for using him against speed players. His electric shock and Thunder really comes in handy. Not to mention his quick attack. And that headbutt/skullbash/tackle is a bit slow and takes a little to charge.

I second the motion on Ganondorf. owo <3 Now that Sonic's in Brawl, I'm praying to the almighty gaming gods that Ganondorf will make it in. Then, and only then, will Brawl be a perfect game. IMO, of course. ^^;;

And I don't want some clone of Capt. Falcon Ganondorf: I want my sword wielding, energy throwing madman!
