He had expected something interesting to be heard, but nothing like this.

Conspiracy, and kidnapping.... he thought as he lowered himself now to the edge of the roof. Using the drainpipe for leverage, he slid down the building's side and straight into the alleyway.

"Not much time left, whoever they are after they'll be on them soon." he muttered as he headed back around the alleyway and up the stairs to the inn's entrance.

He could just see Letalus as he entered through the main door.

Leana turned to go back to the bar, where her other meal was ready. She picked it up gladly and then headed back.

But then something caught her eye.

She stopped about halfway, glancing over at a table that had just become vacant. There was a suspicious crumpled napkin just sitting there, but she could see something a bit shiny inside. Quietly she went over and peered inside. She gave a silent gasp when she saw what it was, thinking it was some sort of pearl. This had to be worth something.

She then slipped it into her bag and went back to Merro and Nova's table to eat with them.

OOC:
Y'know Meriko, Leana DOES have cleavage...should she stash it in her chest area? XD I don't recall giving Leana a bag but I'm sure she's got one. ^_~

Ravenous though she was, days of near-fasting had left her with little capacity for food, and she ate to satiation and still had one heel of the bread and a goodly bit of cheese left on her plate. Plucking a few errant crumbs from the folds of her voluminous grey cloak, she glanced around the room and then caught sight of her captor-keeper-companion re-entering the common room.

"Letalus is returned," she commented to Leana and Nova, and then stood up. She was finished with her own meal and Letalus was back. There seemed nothing else to wait for but to get started on their journey. Never mind that she hadn't looked to see if Leana was finished or noticed whether Nova had eaten anything at all. And if the young thief was off-put at not being recompensed for the expense of Merro's meal, hopefully it did not sour the taste of her food. Letalus' probable need for a morning meal had also not crossed Merro's mind. As for Sentelle, that the younger woman had dismissed the older from her mind for the moment might be taken as a sort of complement that Merro was assured of the paladin being entirely self-sufficient.

It was difficult to set aside the long habit of being a self-centered noblewoman when one didn't have any experience of how to be otherwise.

ooc: You can hide the marble wherever you like. *hee* Oh, and hey...what happened to the live booty from last night? Does Leana still have a sack of chickens or crate of bunnies or whatever it was?

Nova let out a soft dook in response to Merro and shimmied up Leana's arm to rest on her shoulder. Though she was fast on her own, she felt sitting upon one of her companions would be much safer than on the ground, where an encore of the the day's earlier dilemma could easily take place again if she let her mind slip again.

Leana ate, a bit slower than Merro had since she was more used to being hungry for long periods of time and felt no need to rush. She smiled as Nova crawled up her arm.

Leana then watched as Merro went up to Letalus. Her words had been so brief. It was as if these people didn't want her to overhear anything important...or anyone for that matter. Everything seemed so hush hush.

She shrugged, careful not to let Nova fall, and continued eating. She'd find out what was up one way or another. After all...she was a thief.

Though the whole reason Letalus bought new clothes was to avoid the attention his blood-spattered appearance would no doubt draw, he now stuck out like a dark, suspicious nail in the center of the tavern. His size coupled with the rakish appearance of his all black ensemble made him seem malevolent. After all, only certain types of men wore all black in this town; undertakers, thieves and assassins. Many of the patrons in the tavern recalled the bloody battle from last night and gave Letalus a considerable berth.

Feeling the palpable tension his presence produced, he made a quick journey of traveling the distance of the main room to Merro's table. "It's time to leave," he announced, for the benefit of the people listening in as well as his charge. "Gather what you will and meet me at the stable." He gave a cursory glance around the room, cool gaze flicking between the women.

She paused after standing, one hand resting on the back of her chair, and watched Letalus approach. His long strides ate up the floor between them and caused the cloak he wore to flow back and away from his broad shoulders like a smooth, inky river. Clad in forbidding black and silence, parting what crowd there was in the room without even glancing to one side or the other, he gave the impression of a presence crossing the room rather than a mere man.

The morning's shocks still having their effect upon her even after a ferret kiss and some food in her stomach, Merro merely nodded once her captor had delivered his orders, her eyes still fixed upon him as if she were not quite convinced that all was returned to normal.

Whatever 'normal' might be for such a one.

Finally breaking her gaze, the young woman turned back to the table to retrieve her bundle and then eyed the slightly squirming sacks on the floor. The clothing was already awkward enough to carry, and she did not quite relish the thought of weaving her way toward the stables burdened down like a packhorse. She glanced over at Leana.

"If you would keep the animals that you secured for me last night in your possession until such time as I have need of them, I would be grateful."

Of course, on a good day, Merro's gratitude and a copper coin wouldn't even buy you a drink of water. These were, however, strange times, and perhaps Leana is more trusting than most in her line of work.

Korix was keen to leave the tavern and avoid any more involvement with people from last night's incidence. He startedt up tohis room to pack his few belongings.

As Letalus glanced around the room Sentelle caught Letalus’ gaze and held it. Letalus, she thought, I apologize for this intrusion but we both know there is no time now for a private audience. Also know that your thoughts are your own. I cannot hear them even should you desire it. I am loath to leave the sword behind, but I do so with the knowledge that Merro cannot be parted from it safely at this time. The sword posses a powerful ancient magic. This morning whilst you were… well I still don’t understand that, but I was able to confirm the writing upon the sword: “The essence of sacrifice.” It is urgent that you understand this! Sentelle’s thoughts fell silent as she recalled for Letalus the dream she had had the previous night. Though I would have it otherwise, mine is not the task of guarding the sword. The task set before me is to return to Leyerril and gain knowledge.

Leana nodded towards Merro, but inwardly felt annoyed. She had to carry that sack with the animals? It had been rather a nuisance, but if no one else was going to do it she'd probably have to.

Plus, she didn't want to dawdle around here much longer. The owners of the animals might become aware that they'd been visited by a thief in the night.

(OOC: If I need to add Leana leaving the tavern with them, I will do so and update the post. XD)

Hugging the bundle of clothing with one arm and keeping the sword from tripping her up with her free hand, Merro threaded her way through the common room and soon caught up with Letalus in the dim and dusty stable. It was not many strides between the table and the stall, but there was enough time for a few thoughts to bubble up, fueled nicely by a comfortable stomach, a night in a semi-decent bed and a surfeit of stolen life energy.

They were leaving. After a horrid beginning and some even more horrid misadventures she would be well and truly begun upon her journal toward Mount Kiadawel, where a hope of escape still glimmered faintly. She was still fairly ill-equipped in and of herself, but unexpected finds and companions were seemingly gathering about her to fill in the gaps of her education and planning. There were now those who could guide her, protect her and supply her with blood in some form or another.

She experienced a sense of relief and actual gratitude for Nova and Leana's hunting and trapping abilities at the same time as she revisited that chilling feeling of knowing that Letalus would murder the first handy passerby for her under the right circumstances. Callous though she generally thought herself toward the life and death of those she cared naught about - pretty much everyone - Merro was having to re-examine her own beliefs. Her father was well and truly uncaring about anything that did not benefit his station and purse. Perhaps that was one of the "noble" things about her that Sentelle and Letalus had so severely derided.

Casually brushing against deep thoughts and still riding the rising wave of excitement at the re-start of their journey, Merro found herself tripping lightly up to the tall, darkly dressed and not ill-looking man who was her captor and protector both. Her eyes glittered almost twilight-purple in an errant shaft of light streaming through the beams of the stable and her eagerness to be off suddenly exposed itself further in a small smile and a flurry of questions.

"What horses do we have? And how are we to ride? Shall I share with Leana again? I need this bundle secured. Do we have a packhorse as well? Did you find everything we need?"

ooc: Meriko, of course, wants Merro to have to ride double with Letalus, "for maximum carnage" as Konami says. *mwahaha* Probably makes more sense for the lightest two to have to double up though, darn it.

...of course depending on what Bri intends to do with her Mage of Tainted Reality, none of this may matter. >.>

Even as Sentelle's message flashed through his mind, Letalus' body continued to move of its own accord, back out to the stable where their horses were waiting. Eyes closed, he gritted his teeth at the invasion of his mind. The holy woman may have insisted his mind was safe from her, but he wasn't so sure he trusted that. Power like this was never to be trusted blindingly. He opened his eyes again as the vision faded, finding himself facing the packhorse.

"Essence of sacrifice?" Well, that was unsurprising. When Merro had first asked him to read the sword's inscription, he had been able to translate "sacrifice;" a word more than enough foreboding all by itself. Sentelle's nearly supernatural knowledge of things was starting to get exceedingly unnerving. He already suspected she knew what he was. What knowledge was she seeking now? What was her plan? Oddly enough, he felt more discomfited by the idea of her not being in his immediate line of sight.

His train of thought was interrupted by a youthful female voice peppering him with questions. Without turning around to face her, Letalus took her bundle and added it to the bags he'd tied to the horse before retrieving Merro. "I bought an extra horse to carry extra baggage," he said flatly, thinking yet again of the inconvenience of travel supplies. The subtle scowl he gave the innocent horse disappeared as he turned around to stare down at his charge, eyebrows raised in cool dismissal, as much as the shining, innocent eyes gazing up at him charmed him. "And you will be riding with me. Given past experience, I don't believe I shall trust you with your own horse, even with that girl with you." With that, he quickly grabbed her by the waist and hauled her up to the horse she'd originally taken. Quickly, he followed suit, climbing up with the ease of experience.

Nestled closely behind her, he glanced behind them to make sure the packhorse was tethered to their ride. Satisfied that everything was secure, he faced forward. Even sitting, he was a good foot taller than her. As he leaned forward to take hold of the reins, one arm at either side of her, his profile lingered next to hers. His sidelong glance lingered on her, unreadable as ever, but whatever spell might have blossomed there was interrupted quickly.

ooc: Your wish is my command, madam. >:3 Someone come interrupt them before makeouts ensue!

With Nova securely on one shoulder and the sack over the other, Leana followed where she'd seen Merro head off to, contemplating everything in her head. Yesterday she never would've imagined going off on an adventure with people...people she'd just met. The whole escapade in the forest with Merro and Letalus, meeting Nova, and then the whole werewolf ordeal. That had been odd.

She got into the stables and saw that Merro and Letalus were already on a horse together. She thought for a moment again about the ordeal the previous day...would she try to run off again? It was difficult to tell what Merro was thinking with Letalus so close.

She then spotted the pack horse, and stepped close to it.

"So...should I put my stuff on it too or put it on my own?" she asked. "Um...either way is fine, I'm just curious."
