A black shadow flew over the members of the pride, black beady eyes looking out on the lions below as she landed next to the oasis.
Her sharp beak picked at the beautiful ebony fetahers that graced her body and she looked around incase any of the lions tried anything to either kill her, or eat her.

It had been several uneventful days for the king of the Blood, and he was glad of it; for he'd been feeling the soreness in his muscles and joints, the soreness that heralded old age. Of course he said nothing to anyone of it; if it got around that the King Makadari was getting weak, no doubt Kiu would take that opportunity to try and overthrow him. And Makadari wasn't ready for that yet. No, he would hang on to his throne, by the skin of his claws if he had to.

He was reclining near the oasis. He'd drunk his fill several minutes ago, and now was relaxing under the shade of one of the few trees in the area. Every now and then his tail twitched, a sign that the lion was indeed still alive despite his closed eyes and relaxed position.

He wasn't yet aware of the crow perched above him.

He wasn't yet aware of the crow perched above him.

The black figure of the crow looked down at the lion, his red pelt making the creature caw in fright and of slight frustration, knowing that he was one of the Firekin blood. She then jumped down a branch before looking at the huge creature, her black beady eyes scanning him as she tilted her head slightly.
"So...this is the king of the Firekin blood..."
The aviatry lady spoke in a raspy old voice as she looked at the over grown cat.

The King wasn't truly asleep, no. He heard the caw and was opening his eyes as the crow spoke. He looked up to see the source of the noise perched in the tree above him. He is, he told her in a low voice, indulging in her game by speaking of himself in the third person. And you've disturbed him from his rest.

He rose and placed his paws on the trunk of the tree, his claws outstretched. And Makadari began to climb. He was old, and his limbs ached, but he was by no means to old to climb a tree. It shook a bit under his weight, but as he shifted his weight from the trunk of the tree to its first branch, it held miraculously.

The crow watched the lion and smirked slyly before flying high up to the second highest branch, watching the king, impresed that something this old could still have the strengh to climb a tree.
"I'm impressed...although with your fathers blood in you...anything would impress and old bird like me!"
The crow was obviously old, alothough by the sheen of her deliacte ebony wings, you wouldn't have known it by first glance.

Taks shifted the sand under her paws anxiously, glaring over the sand dunes, searcing for the sparkle of an oasis. Turning her attention to the fox, the cheetah walked over to her side, blocking out the sun with her body. It had slipped her mind that the fox was probably insanely tired and probably going blind as well. Her face softened as she worried herself over Yakuti's well being.

"Are you doing okay, Yaku?"

Teule followed behind Mwali and on the other side of Yakuti, feeling slightly better now that the akward feeling had diminished some. He looked back again, feeling sort of bad at the sight of Jasiri. Had he hurt her feeling when he had just nodded. Im too young for this.. Like the first time he had gone hunting, Taa had said he was too young for it and he felt very nervous when he had tried hunting. It was almost the same tihgn he was feeling now, confused and unknowing.

Jasi looked up at Woko, and smiled weakly. She didnt really feel like explaining what happend to Woko right now. "No im fine." Maybe Teule didnt feel like talking. Maybe he was excited about the trip, or was imagining what it would be like there? Jasi decided it was probally nothing, and grined, feeling better. She scamperd up next to Teule, and tugged at his ear playfully. "You excited?" her grin slowly becoming larger.

Wokovu stayed silent to her lie and just went back to watching the animals infront of him. Until then jasi suddenly cheered up and ran to teule.. His ears folded back a bit.. He felt.. ignored..? no.. jelious. Yes, he was jelious.. he did feel ignored ofcourse thats what caused the jeliosy, but he wanted all three of them to be friends, and jasi seemed to be ignoring him.. and ontop of that she was trying to steal his brother away from him.
Well atleast thsts what the cub's imgination had led him to belive..

Yakuti blinked, ear flicking twards her friend "Yea i'm fin-" she was cut short by yelping as she was suddenly very aware of a large snake she had almost stepped on, and had immediatly jumped away from it on reaction. She backed up some more to try to make sure she was away from it..
The bad thing here was she couldn't see it. If she hadn't heard the small hiss of a warning she would have stepped right on it, and now it was complete silence and blurred light..
Not something her system was happy with.

Wokovu froze as his mom did suddenly out of his thoughts of jeliousy and wondering what was going on.. Though as soon as he noticed the snake he started edging up to it "Whoa what is that..?" he asked in awe, unknowning of the danger the snake held.

Taka scurried back as her eyes met the snake and responded to Yakuti's frenzied motion. Taka loomed over the fox worriedly, trying to block out the sun with her lean figure though it helped little with the reflecting sand. She snorted motioning for Mwali to come over to them with her head.

"Perhaps you should keep your eyes closed and you can ride on Mwali''s back, ne? I'm sure I can pick up the scent and lead since we're probably closer."

Taka looked up to Mwali questioningly, wondering if he would be okay with her request.

Teule's little feeling of unease vanished just before Jasi pulled his ear, making him snicker and bump her playfully. He wondered where Woko was but assuemd he was off on some rock again, probably dreaming of himself as a king.

"Course' I am, I've never been to the lands they spoke of before. How 'bout you?"

Jasi thought for a moment. "Well...I might have passed it while I jornied, but that was along time ago, so I can remember it that well. Sounds wonderful though, all the soft green grass to roll and play in. Ive been so tired of this itchy sand." She swated at the sand, amking some fly at Teule, carefully so she wouldnt hit his eyes.

He rolled his eyes, walking slowly towards the cub and the cheetah. They wanted him to play cabby? Well he did think it was wiser if they were to pick up the pace- surely his father would notice that things were quiet and that they were missing their new slaves... not to mention that he wasn't complaining about dinner at the moment. "We have to hurry. I'll carry them all on my back and you can lead the way."

He lowered himself, bending a forearm to allow the cubs up, "Quickly, all of you get on my back.... don't use your claws- I'll be very cross if someone breaks the skin on my back. Try to hold to my mane if needed."

After departing from the small gathering of lions, cheetah, and fox Kinja made her way back to her little ones whom were (hopefully) in the thicket. As she moved across the hot sand she kept all her senses alert so that should Makadari or any of the other lionesses appeared she would be ready to make up an excuse for her being out here in the desert like she was.

The hot sand did little to calm her down, in fact, it was only making her more aggrivated. Now she knew why the pride layed in the shade all day long, her paws were beginning to burn. Finally though, the thicket came into view. She heaved a soft sigh of relief and took off at a faster pace to her 'home' where her little cubs were.

Kimeti, at this point, was quite bored and had actually falled asleep on his fathers head. The gentle movement of his chest moving up and down indicated that he was in a deep slumber, dreaming of some wonderful fantasy of his.

((I'm back! Tell me if any of my posts are. . . er. . . not up to date. I've been having personal problems.))

Kiu, who had dozed off himself, opened one eye and looked upwards, barely able to make out his son’s whisker tips through the blanket of sleep that still obscured his vision. Ah, what precious things they were. . .

Suddenly, the great lion started, awakening at last. What was going on? Where was Kinja? Oh yes. . . she had left him in charge. . . and he had dozed off! How could he have been so irresponsible! Hoping Kimeti would not be disturbed, the lion turned his head slightly, trying to see if all of his cubs had fared well as he slept. Poor little things, all alone. . . without any protection. What kind of father was he, dozing off on duty?

After a few frantic moments, he had assured himself that all of his cubs were alive and unharmed. Kafara was sleeping in one corner, away from the others, as usual. (Typical). Her father sighed, and instead tried to keep his body perfectly still, so as not to disturb Kimeti. It was a pity that his nose was being tickled by a passing breeze. . .

Trying to stifle his sneeze, Kiu blinked his groggy eyes and glanced at the sun as best he could from his current position. It was late in the day, he had slept for quite a while. However, he felt well rested, and ready to watch after his children properly. He would. . . er. . . neglect to mention to Kinja that he had taken such a long snooze. Catnaps were very aptly named. . .

Kinja slowed as she reached the entrance of the thicket. She sigh in relief as the cooler ground shaded by the thicket branches came in contact with her paws. She took that moment of relief to allow her body to stretch before entering her little adobe.

She smiled at the sight that was before her. All her little ones were sleeping soundly, seemingly unworried about her absence, which was a wonderful thing to see. A chuckle escaped her at the sight of Kiu with Kimeti on his head. She walked over to the two and gently picked Kimeti up and off her mate's head, making sure not to bother her sleeping cub. She placed Kimeti with his sisters and brother before walking over to Kiu and resting beside him, allowing her body to lay against his. "Have a nice nap?" She grinned evily at him, oh, it was apprent that the lion had taken a nap, but since all were there and accounted for she was really in no mood for chastising.

As Kimeti was picked up from his father's head he stirred slightly, opening one tired eye for a few moments to see his mother carrying him towards his siblings. He yawned and stretched a bit but as soon as he was placed back on the ground he was back within his dreams once again.

"Nap? Me? Never!”

Kiu firmly denied his mate’s suspicions (true as they were), though he knew all too well that she knew that he knew she knew. “You know that I’d never stop watching the cubs, Kinja. . . They’re too precio-“

He was interrupted by his daughter, who had decided that she wished to touch her father’s flank with her cold, kitten nose. Kiu turned his head, picked her up by the scruff of her neck, and placed his reclusive daughter in between his front paws. “See how much she loves me?” Kiu protested, ignoring the needle-like lances of pain that rushed through his forepaws as Kafara sank her claws into them to get a better grip, flexing and unflexing.

It was surprising how needle-like kitten teeth and claws were. Kiu glanced at his smallest daughter (she was still a bit of a runt), licking her headfur with a sandpaper tongue, and then turned back to Kinja. “So, do you wish to tell me where you went and what happened there? You don’t usually run away from your kits. Come to think of it, you spend almost every waking minute doting upon them. . .” he grinned. “As do I. They ARE fine cubs.”
