Woot! French horns/mellophones represent!

Yeah I'm a French horn/mellophone player. I used to march bass drum for drumline in the marching band and I played the oboe for concert band, but I switched my junior year and I've stuck with it ever since.

I love my horn!

Bob. I am.
*Clears throat.*

Oh yeah, time for me to gloat.

My school is doing, the one, the only:

The Phantom Of The Opera

((I know, everyone hates us.))

Well, not only do we hold most of the melodies, but I also get a kick-a** solo for The Music of the Night. My friend Eric gets the trumpet solo for Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.

Oh yeah, it's soo awesome. ^^

I want to be you now. Because that's just freaking awesome. I literally get chills every time I hear the horn solo in Music of the Night...and therefore I desperately want to play it.

Heh, suppose I should at least make an attempt at introducing myself...I'm in my tenth year of playing French horn (and have owned my own double horn since my fourth year...silver Conn 8-D, I adore it), and I also played mellophone for all 4 years of high school marching band (I picked it up again for the homecoming parade last year, I thought my arms were going to fall off because I hadn't marched in almost a year).

Uberniftacular

Speaking of murder on the arms...We do two run throughs at the end of marching rehersal. And the way our show is designed, we march like a DCI drum corps. It's a pretty hard-core show, and it's about 8 minutes long. And my arms want to fall off after the second run through's over. I know understand why so many brass players hate woodwinds. (I marched flute last year.)

yeah I just get sick and tired when a flute or clarinetist starts complaining about not going to trail after 5-10 minutes of attention. I forget how long our show is this but we are doing mangione magic. I was hoping we would do a 007 theme this year like everyone thought but apparently our BD couldn't find the drill he wanted for it.

What do you mean find the drill? We pay someone to design our drill for us. And he writes really hardcore stuff. Our show this year is called "Nocturnal Images" and features Danse Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain, Nocturne in Eb Major, and something our BD composed based on the previous pieces. We literally are like a drum corps with woodwinds. And yeah, I just..Ack. Our assistant director, who also is who we pay to design our drill, freaks if you break at attention. He makes brass hold our horns up that much longer, and threatens to have us hold them up for 10 minutes after practice with ankle weights on the end. smile We love him though. He's really a good guy.

No I really don't know what you mean when you say find the drill. I thought everyone had someone to design their drill for them; I don't know any other way.

I might start playing the French horn this year. I've been playing the flute for 3 whole years now and need to broaden my horizon. ^.^ Plus, we haven't had a French horn player for 2 years running now! XDD I plan to be here quite a bit if I do start playing for tips and stuff. =S I've never played anything quite like the French horn. My friend is taking up the oboe this year too so I won't be the only 8th grader in the beginning band lol. And I am also playing my flute in advanced band. Please don't bomb on me for saying that I play flute. XP From what your saying, I'm totally lost. My friend that is starting the oboe plays the clarinet rofl! But, whats trail? And in our band, the trumpets get all the attention because our band director is a trumpet player. XP

Feeling left out with all this mellophone talk...

So, what I'm wondering is if anyone knows what a triple Horn costs. It's just something I'm curious about since I saw one at band camp this summer.

Time to brag about my mellophone section: there are only two of them, but they almost never fail to out play all ten trumpets and the rest of the band (except our piccolo who plays too loud). They are the awesomeist people I know (yes, sadly, I am not one of them).

I meant what do you mean, find the drill? Do you already have pre-made drill or something?

Woot, go horns! (/mellophones :3) I'm currently 4th chair in symphonic, but we haven't had chair tryouts yet. It's by year then alphabetical right now (Freshman with back-of-alphabet last name) x3

I was making reference to the post above me. I think Mr. A was trying to find it premade but I'm not sure.
