If your store is relatively big they should have it. Or you can try looking for it online. Really, its not that hard to find them if you know how to look.

Between the anime and the manga, the manga's more graphic.
But if you're looking for -funny moments-, should check out the OVAs. I seriously think more animes should do more of that often.

NightIntent NaoyzOrioN [juz like saiyuki reload >> off topic] I've only seen one episode of the Fushigi Yuugi anime. The one in which Tamahome gets brainwashed. It was interesting, but I think I'll stick with the manga for now. I hate Tamahome in that episode.He's just too weird being bad. In the manga, liked the part when they had to change/dress up as women. I'm so straightforward today.Must be more like this everyday.

i only got my hands on the manga 2 months ago and im now up to volume 9 but geez volume 8 has got to b the best for me so far, i was almost brought to tears when nuriko does, i was in class reading this and i started saying 'nooooo' out loud so i got a few stares there lol but still it was so sad my friend felt the same way

I'm so straightforward today.Must be more like this everyday. Yeah, Tamahome's weird as a bad guy. It doesn't make any sense. Though I will admit that I liked the manga part of tha better. Yes, them dressing up as women was awesome! It was funny how the women fell for it, except for... was it Mitsukake? I thought it was him and Tasuki, but I may be wrong for the Tasuki part. Shivarra: The part where Nuriko dies is one of my least favorite parts. I liked Nuriko. He was funny.
