"Hello," Maia smiled at Toby. She was still wet from the pool, but she'd wrung out her hair. It'd kept dripping When she'd exited the pool, something "Dari's a fast swimmer. Beat me twice. But he'll never beat me in my other form. So you're all ready for tonight?" She'd taken the time to tell Seamus where her apartment was, should he want to visit. She entered Dari's apartment.
"So! What do people do on sleep overs? Last night was my first one, and we didn't do all that much."

"She's right," Dari chimed in. No human-shaped body was going to beat a seal body at any kind of water antics.
"Yup," Toby responded, shuffling in after Maia. Dari closed and locked the door and came to join the group again.
"Well, pop culture will tell you that women experiment with lesbianism and hit each other with pillows, and that men don't have them unless they're sleeping with a woman, so I'm no use," the alien said.
Toby snickered. "We don't have to do anything. Whatever we want. I brought my computer and I hope chicken alfredo sounds good because I had a bunch of sauce left over."

Maia made a face, and it seemed she regretted asking. She stared at Dari for a long moment. "Is that really what's done?" she asked. "Oh, I know. We can call it something else."
She patted Dari on the shoulder. "Don't worry. I'm not interested in doing what pop culture says." She glanced towards Toby. Oh. Good. So they didn't have to experiment and hit others with pillows. "Sounds good! Are you going to make it here? Can I help?"

Dari smiled. Toby laughed.
"Pop culture isn't to be believed most of the time, I find," the alien corrected.
Toby, still amused, shook his head and turned to Maia. "Sure, you can help if you want. Dari, you still have the stuff in your kitchen, right?"
"Yes. I never moved it."
"Good. Perfect." Then back to Maia. "Are you hungry now?"

"Oh good. That'd be awkward." Men only had sleep overs to have sex? She was glad it wasn't true, though.
She glanced at Toby. "I could eat," she said. "What about you? We could wait a bit. Play a game. Dari taught me to play checkers. I'm pretty good at it. I bet I could beat you!"

"I'll be hungry by the time we're done," Toby admitted. He got home, he cooked, and was hungry for the food he'd made. It was his schedule and he had confused it all by driving home and driving back. If it made Maia more comfortable in the apartments it would be well worth it. "Also, I'll have you know I was my fourth grade checkers champion."
"I can beat him at chess," Dari said, sliding against the wall.
"You cheat. You can see another dimension."
"That's my biology, it can't be held against me."

"Let's go cook then," Maia went into the kitchen. Despite Dari's decor, they all seemed to have the same cookie cutter shape to them. She rose an eyebrow at him. "Oh really?" she asked. "And how long ago was that?" She teased.
"Chess? You two should play! I'll watch. That's the really slow moving game, isn't it?" she didn't know if she would have been able to stand it. "Its a very thoughtful game, isn't it?"

"Well that's none of your business," Toby said, teasing right back. He could have just done the math, but he wasn't sure he wanted to. The answer was on the higher end of sixty years. "Chess isn't very exciting." That was honest. It wasn't just his competitive spirit talking. Anyone who watched chess was a terribly boring or else seriously obsessive-compulsive person.
"It is thoughtful," Dari said, "It has a lot of rules."
"Okay, Maia. Can you take this to the sink and fill it to about here?" Toby had dug a couple of pans from under the cabinet and made a bit of a face at the dust in the smaller one. He beat Maia to the sink and rinsed it out before stepping aside to let her fill the pot for noodles.
"Then I want you to put it on this burner." He tapped the metal circle that he hadn't turned on just yet.

Not very exciting. Rules. Well that certainly put a damper on Maia's interest in the game. "Sure," She agreed, taking the pot handed to her. She grinned as he beat her to the sink, shaking her head. "I don't imagine these are used very often."
She filled the pan to where Toby had indicated, placing it on the burner. "And you wait for it to boil, don't you?"

"Have you used them since last time?" Toby called out to Dari. The other man shook his head.
"No."
"Okay, so probably not in a year? Two?" He turned up the heat on the burner and eyed the silverware in the drawer. He brought a couple of large spoons and forks to the sink to rinse them.
"Well, we'll wanna put some salt in it. I have some salt in there." He pointed to his grocery bag, and inside was a box of pasta, a container of sauce, and some jars of seasoning. In one jar was a fair amount of sea salt, and it was the only white substance amongst them all.

Maia looked into the bag indicated. Hm, pasta, sauce, seasoning--Ah! There it was. Salt. She took it out of the bag and offered it to Toby. "What's the salt for?" She asked. "For taste?"

Toby nodded as he turned back around, drying his hands on an equally as unused but thankfully not dusty dishcloth. "Yup. Put like three good pinches in." Except the jar was sort of small. "I'll tell you when to stop."
"It seems terribly inefficient to need refueling every day, does it not?"
"Who here doesn't, freak?"
Dari just smiled.

"Alright." Maia took the salt and shook it over the water. "Is there anything else I put in?" she asked. She was waiting for him to say stop. "I suppose," She said, grinning. It was a little inefficient, but then, Dari didn't seem to be able to taste anything either. "It's a shame you have to miss out on Toby's cooking."
"When do the noodles go in?"

"That's enough," Toby offered with a smile, cutting off the liberal salting. Some people never added salt, some made a brine, his mother had been somewhere in the middle. "Nope, nothing else for now. The pasta goes in when it boils."
"Oh, I'm sure I'm not missing much."
Toby clicked his tongue. "Be nice."
"I learned from the best." Dari's hands went up in surrender.
"It should only take a few minutes," Toby said, switching gears to speak to Maia, "In the mean time I'm going to go change. You guys can start something up if you'd like." Computer, game, whatever. He needed to get out of these clothes.

Maia set the salt down on the counter. She glanced to Dari, shaking her her head. "I'm sure he's a great cook." she said.
She moved away from where she'd been standing. "Do you want to play a game?" she asked, looking to Dari. "What do you want to do?
