Right, if I've already seen the series/episode once, then I'll skip it, if it's a recap-type episode. But if I don't watch it the first time, I might miss something. I can't risk it!
And the only series I really must watch in English is Pokemon. I can watch the Japanese version, but for some reason, Pokemon is just way more enjoyable in English.

I personally don't mind being called nerdy! But I know some people might find it offensive, and the last thing I wanna do if offend someone. The idea of it scares me~ :<
And I make a lot of references, sometimes in another language (I call it practicing - it's totally not), and I feel bad if I have to explain. ;; I try to keep the references/inside jokes simple, at a low number, and in English.
Heh, and thanks, that makes me feel better. :'D

Oh, you don't have to apologize, that's quite alright! I'll look forward to seeing you return then! :O

And I'll keep that in mind~

A risk I cannot take as well. I've never watched Pokemon in anything but English, it does seem very fitting though. There is no series that I think I prefer in English...although I do like Vic's voice which makes me want to watch FMA in English...it's just if the series is long I don't always have time to actually sit and read the screen. I need to be able to turn away and still know what's going on. Oh wait, I lied, Fruits Basket I prefer in English. I hate Yuki's voice WAY too much in Japanese. And I think Ouran Host Club is the one series I absolutely cannot tolerate in English. I hate almost every single one of the dub voices. Possibly every voice, it's just I already decided I hated the twins, Tamaki and Kyouya's voice passionately before I ever got to here Mori's (since he doesn't talk much). Hunni I think is the only one whose voice I could stand at all.

I think as a general rule, I don't know too many anime fans - who are professedly anime fans - who have something against being called nerdy. I guess you could have a closet case or two though ^_~.

My friend will quote stuff at me a lot, usually in German, and I'm just in the habit of running what he sends me through a translator. So I usually try that first when I see another language before asking, although it is harder with Asian languages to get a good translation that way.

Ok now I've got to stop messing around on here and go pack. ttyl!

Yeah, I kinda used to dislike watching shows on the computer, but I'm used to how convenient it is to watch on the computer. And I never watched Ouran completely, since I was sorta disappointed when the first episode came out, but I gave it another try in English, and... I think I liked it better then rofl. I just watched that one episode though. Oh, and actually, I did watch another episode in Japanese, the one with Hunny's brother. That's all I needed to see of the Ouran anime, I decided. xD

Have fun on your trip! :>

@Rikkai: Hello, I'm Kitsune Ketz Kwineight! You can call me Kitsune, Ketz, Kits, whatever you want, really.
Hell yeah another Nintendo fan! <3 Never played Earthbound or Mother, though I've been interested in trying them for quite a while. Mario and Kirby are awesome. My favorite games are Zelda and Ace Attorney games, though lately I've been growing more and more fond of a *gasp* non-Nintendo game, Left 4 Dead! *hugs it*
Dang, 3,556 cards? I may have to get me that game... aren't the newer games based on 5D's now though? Do you know if you actually ride motorcycles in them? XD
Haha, no worries about being a weeaboo here. XD As long as you're not the annoying kind that never stops squeeing about how awesome "Saw-Soo-Key" is and how they're gonna have Edward Elric's children (which you don't seem to be doing thus far), I'm good with that. =D Definitely a weeaboo myself.
Definitely also perverted and creepy here, so I welcome the new addition of such a mentality! =D
Sounds like a good description to me. Great to have you here!

@JK: Though I don't enjoy flashbacks and repetition as much as new stuff, I can stand it pretty well. And I'm so obsessive about seeing every episode, that even on second watch-throughs I'll watch the fluff episodes too. XP
Ahahaha, together Rikkai and I shall take down your Playstation! Oh but wait, then there would be no Little Big Planet or God of War... D:
Weeaboo is just a 'derogatory' term for anime/Japan nerds, like us pretty much. Though weeaboo is more often associated with the more negative stereotypes, like the squeeing fangirls I mentioned earlier, and who have to use "Kawaii neko desu" in every sentence.
...I said I wouldn't add new character discussion threads until other threads have died down in that subforum... D: As far as I can see, we're still chatting in the Malik thread.

@Rikkai: Pretty much everyone in this guild if off topic 87% of the time, so no worries if you do as well. XD I don't like to restrict conversation when it takes a natural flow in a different direction.
I somehow thing anyone in this guild who is weirded out by creepy perverts has already been chased out by JK's and my conversations. XD;;

@JK: Nerds are awesome and I consider it a compliment to be called one.

@Rikkai: I'm very much an 'original language' obsessie when it comes to cartoons. So there are few anime I can stand in English; either there has to be a nostalgic reason for me to like them in English, like DBZ or Pokemon, a hilarious reason, like Ghost Stories, which was pretty much dubbed like an Abridged Series, or it has to be really, really well-done, like Cowboy Bebop and Yuu Yuu Hakusho. Otherwise I avoid dubs, and the only series I actually prefer the dub over Japanese is Ghost Stories. YUU*GI*OU is one of my least favorite dubs though. Oh, and I haven't liked Pokemon dubs since they replaced the voice actors.
What other languages do you speak? =D I love foreign languages, and at least have a minor understanding of Japanese and German.

@JK: Never tried the Host Club dub. Don't think I want to now.

Hi! Nice to meet'cha, Ketz!
You should totally try EarthBound, it's a great game. And oh yeah! I like Zelda as well. Never played the Ace Attorney games, though...
I haven't gotten the game yet, but from what I can tell, you can ride motorcycles in story mode, and in tournment/free battle/whatever it's called, you don't have to. I think! And the 5D's-style card game was pretty confusing at first, but it all makes sense to me now. It shouldn't be too hard to catch on to things like Synchro Monsters/etc. :D
Aha~ well okay then. Thanks. :'D

Aaah, and that's pretty much how I am with watching something dubbed vs subbed/raw. Though Yugioh counts under the nostalgic area, and also I think it's hilarious, so I'll gladly watch the dub whenever I catch it on TV.
I'm not fluent in anything. Sadly! But I know enough Japanese to barely get by. I haven't even tried to formally study it yet (though I have books for it when I want to), I'm currently just picking it up from Niconico/raw comics/websites. I learn a little more every day! Except not.

@Rik - I love OHC and I thought it was pretty fast paced (the anime) so if you didn't get into it right away I don't think I'd recommend you'd jump into that again. But that's up to you. The manga after a point is really different, and thus far I like the anime better, but the manga is still in progress so we'll see.

I am having fun, we are sitting here talking about lawsuits, hahaha ~_~. But we did go to happy hour before that and it is pretty funny. Tomorrow night we are going to go see Alice, woot. And then during the day (while they are at work/school) I'm visiting an old coworker.

@Kits - If I know for fact that it was a recap episode, and I just saw the episode it's recapping, I won't watch it, or I'll at least skip through it to where I want to be. Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't do this that much though, nowhere near as bad as Naruto (really, you have no idea how bad it is! Ugh, I realize I must really like the rest to put up with it, because this is such a pet peeve of mine). The only thing that bothered me about that was when Yuugi lost his soul and Yami was like having flashbacks of that moment over and over and over again, like I GET IT ALREADY!

LEAVE MY PS ALONE!! Rik already said she would be nice so there razz

Aww, so I have to shut up about cheese to get a new thread? Darn, but I wanna talk about multiple characters at once! And then get confused!! And then bleed into each other!!! And then I want tacos *gir voice*.

Aww, we chased people out? Oh noes! Come back people and embrace the perversion, embrace!!

I consider it a compliment as well ^_^

@Rik - Enough Japanese to get by is more than me, that's probably the only reason I want to watch subs more. I've studied French and Attic and New Testament Greek (Attic is an Ancient Dialect, though we covered some Ionic - they are all pretty similar though so you'd really only have to study one and just be familiar with variations).

@Kits - don't try it, it's awful!!! AWFUL!!!!! I mean I LOVE Vic's voice too (btw, did you see LK's video about him? Butchering the last name? I found that awesome but never got around to writing about that in TAS, true it's not exactly TAS, but I consider that the LK thread), but as Tamaki it's just not good.

I've read the manga, which is why I couldn't get into the anime. I wasn't that fond of the way they were adapting it... and I was too used to the Drama CD voices lol. At the time, I was really picky with manga to anime adpations, though I've gotten over being picky about it now. Also man, I should catch up on Ouran, I must be way behind by now.

I wasn't even that interested in Japanese, but it's been proven so useful to me, that I decided I might as well go for it. And French? I'm so jealous! I've always wanted to learn French since I was little, but I never really got around to it. I ended up taking Spanish in school because I hadn't realized there was also a French class orz. Spanish was great though, but I've forgotten so much of it. I wanna relearn Spanish too.

I saw the entire anime before I started the manga, and I still find the anime to be a rather good adaptation but they did change the ending, at least, the manga isn't ended and seems to have gone off in a completely different direction. I guess the anime is lighter than the manga, but I prefer that, it's part of what got me into OHC in the first place. I had a bunch of other dark series so it was nice to have something that wasn't so much drama. But yes I feel behind in the manga as well.

Greek was my favorite language to study (but as I studied Ancient not Modern, it's not very useful outside of academic arenas), but I wish my French was better. I'm moving to England next year so hopefully I can chill in Paris weekends and practice... sweatdrop

@Rikkai: I want to~... Isn't Earthbound on Wii's Virtual Console now? o.o Yay Zelda! <3 Oh, you should totally place the Ace Attorney games! I have yet to meet one person who has played them and not fallen in love with them. They're very different than traditional games, but they are soooo much fun, especially if you like anime and manga.
Wow, that sounds... pretty interesting. XD Oh, are Synchro Monsters the white cards? I saw them in a card shop and thought they were really pretty, bud didn't know what they were. XD;; Is the 5D's style a complete turnaround of traditional Duel Monsters, or does it just add new stuff, like the Synchro Monsters?
I got into subs a little earlier than most people, like before you could watch stuff online or rent DVDs; they happened to have some Japanese Tenchi Muyo! VHS's at my video store, so I got spoiled with subs back in like fourth or fifth grade. XD;; YUU*GI*OU didn't come out here until I was in seventh grade, and while I did watch it at first dubbed, to see if I liked it, once I got really into it I had to get it subbed, and I just can't stand the dub anymore. ~_~;;
Yeah, I'm quite similar with Japanese. I want to take classes once I have some room for electives in my schedule, but for now I'm just vaguely and informally studying Japanese here and there.

@JK: Ah, I see. XD Yeah, YUU*GI*OU probably has more recap episodes than any other show I watch religiously, but it still doesn't really have that many, so maybe I just haven't been tortured enough with Naruto to really start to hate recaps. I thought the worst YUU*GI*OU recap though was the one where Yuugi and Kaiba spend the entire episode remembering all of Jounouchi's Battle City duels... THAT THEY DIDN'T WITNESS! Hahaha, that was quite special. XD But it was about Jounouchi, so I didn't complain too much.
Fair enough, we shall have an unsteady alliance of the Sony and the Nintendo! XD
Haha, I don't have to stand by my word. XD I thought it would be less confusing to only put new character threads up when others finished, but you do have a point that we are only talking about cheese in the Malik thread right now so... yeah, I'll make a new one maybe tomorrow or so. :3
Haha, yes, I've seen the Vic video. XD I've pretty much seen every LK video on his Youtube account.

@Kits - I was looking at the Ace Attorney manga yesterday, you ever read that? I mean I'll probably never play it because nobody I'm close to owns it and I most likely never will as I don't have the system, but I'm semi curious.

My only preference sub/dub is voices...if the majority of voices bother me in one versus the other, or there is one voice I just can't stand (like I hate watching Fruba subbed because as much as I love Kyou's voice and a few other characters, I can't stand Yuki's. FMA is hard for me because I LOVE Ed's in English but I HATE Al's...I'm ok with both in Japanese but I don't LOVE either...so I'm giving up love to avoid hate?!). I don't know Japanese so subs can sometimes be problematic to read, I miss stuff focusing on the text. I like it sometimes but sometimes I want to just be able to understand what I'm hearing. Also, I know some dubs *cough*4Kids*cough get weird translations and make interesting cuts and whatnot, but I've seen things where the subs are just too ridiculous to read, those translations aren't any better, sometimes worse for me. So yea, it's just always going to come down to voices, what am I listening to, as far as preference.

And yes, I don't think of Yu-Gi-Oh as very bad on the whole recap thing, I've definitely seen things that are worse, Naruto probably wins by far though. I mean Yu-Gi-Oh had a 30 second type recap in a recap segment, whereas Naruto the recap is part of the episode so you can't really tell when what you've seen will end and when what's new will begin. Hahaha, that was rather random, but yea, I mean having random things like that once in awhile and having it all the time are two different things. I can roll through it a couple times, but episode after episode after episode gets tiresome.

S'all I ask ^_~.

Haha...cheese...and yay! And you must always stand by your word! And then Failcon will be such an unfitting nickname.

I've seen any that are YGO related, save for the one he just put up, as I've been in Davis since I've noticed it, and just haven't had time to watch Youtube things. I'll watch it Saturday though. I've seen a few of his other videos but in general most don't interest me, they usually aren't about things I know, so unless the title makes them seem immediately relevant, I don't watch the non-YGO ones.

@ JK - Moving to England next year? Oh wow, I'm even more jealous now, that sounds so awesome. I've been to Germany and Italy, but that was only a trip, I never lived anywhere outside of the United States. D: I hope you'll have a good time there when you move!

@ Ketz - ...EarthBound is on the VC now?! Aaah, what, I didn't know! And aha, everyone tells me to play Ace Attorney! I just need to find some at Gamestop, or something.
Yes indeed, those white cards are Synchro Monsters! Aaand... well, with every new set of cards that comes out, the whole game/metagame/whatever changes, but the game itself (traps, spells, summoning, etc.) is still the same, so... yeah, 5D's just added new stuff. And if you used to know how to play/already know how, I think it'll be easy to make yourself familiar with the 5D's-style game (and watching the anime helps xD).

@Rik - Yea, I'm going for grad school, I'm excited. It will probably only be for the one year MA program but I'm hoping to stay a year or so longer and maybe work, just to get more time abroad. If not I might apply to do my doctorate abroad too. I've only been to Canada (and that was just a day trip when visiting Michigan 10 years ago, back when you didn't need a passport to just drive over) and I went to Paris about 2 years ago as my graduation present from my undergrad (I have taken 2 years off b/w my BA and my MA). But thanks, I hope to have a good time too ^_^.

Oh, you've already been to Paris, so cool! ...And Canada too, aha. I've always kinda wanted to go there too.

And since you suggested I post the series I liked here, and I failed to do so in my first post, um... here they are. c:
Detective Academy Q, Digimon, Hikaru no Go, Keroro Gunso, Pokemon (games+cartoon+PokeSupe), Prince of Tennis, Princess Tutu, Reborn!, Utena, EarthBound, Kirby (games+cartoon), Zelda, Mario, Touhou Project, ....... YGO/YGO 5D's lol

...and a whole lot of other stuff that I can't remember. But those are the big ones I guess. There's also stuff like Hourou Musuko, Code Geass, and BakaTest, but they're not really... fandom-y enough to mention, I guess. this list is totally half-assed
PostPosted: Fri Mar 12, 2010 2:36 pm

Yea, Canada was nice, but I was 13 and we only went for a day so we didn't do much. I'd like to visit French Canada someday. And I definitely want to go back to Paris, 9 days is so NOT enough for even a tenth of what the city has to offer. And it's SO gorgeous. Everything is really expensive though, I barely ate all week. I mean I went with my mom and she of course would have fed me but I felt bad with how expensive everything was, so hooray for a fast. It was spiritual, haha. Heck, Notre Dame was my favorite place. I'm not specifically religious, but it was just this amazing feeling being there, peaceful and energetic all the same time. And the building is of course gorgeous, and they had some fabulous choirs in their just practicing most of the time.

Haha, YGO and Pokemon are really your only series that I got into (although I stopped watching Pokemon after Misty left and have really only seen a few episodes of various seasons since). I've kinda been craving a rewatch of the old stuff lately, but too many things I haven't even seen once yet are demanding my attention first. I'm starting to hear about Code Geass more and more, I stumbled over it a year or two ago, bookmarked it and forgot about it. Then a friend got into it, and she kept almost spoiling stuff for me which made me very sad and I kinda ran away from it for awhile. I will hopefully be able to make time for it soon.

Hmm...if I had to make a list (anime/manga) the big things would probably be Fullmetal Alchemist, Chorno Crusade, Ouran High School Host Club, Loveless, Fruits Basket, Yu-gi-oh, Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2 and Yami no Matsuei. May or may not be forgetting something.

The smaller other list would be Death Note, Fake, Naruto, Pokemon and Yu Yu Hakushu (but I never finished YYH and I'm only just now restarting the manga so that might switch lists in the future, depending).

And then I also have a pretty avid interest in yaoi, and DanyxDany probably write my favorite novels. The Lily and the Rose is my favorite, but we'll see if that changes if I can ever get my hands on Daimones in English. Their art is SO beautiful and the writing is great, they have a much better plot development than a lot of yaoi novels have, especially the one shots.

@JK: Yes, there's two Ace Attorney manga out in English right now I believe. I have both of them, and while they are quite amusing, they don't really give enough insight into the games. They're more like little gag manga/fan manga than anything. It's just a bunch of little episodes with each one written/drawn by a different mangaka. So some are really good, and some are not so good. The art tends to be quite poor though, sadly. But some of the mini stories are kind of hard to follow if you haven't played the games/give spoilers. A plus of the manga though is that they make the main character and his rival (plus other characters) seem even more gay than they did in the game, which is a pretty amazing and fantastic feat. I honestly suggest finding a friend who has a Wii and downloading it on that. They only have the first game on the Wii so far, but it's exactly the same as the DS and only $10. The second two games are also coming to the Wii, but I'm not sure about the fourth and the fifth yet. But I mean, maybe if a friend of yours has a Wii, you can each pay five bucks, and since it's a pretty short game, it would probably only take you four or five visits to finish it. I finished it in three days when I got it, though the newer games are a bit longer. Then if you really like it, you can wait for the next two to come out on Wii and download those. It wouldn't be the complete series, but considering the fourth one is about a different main character and takes place quite a ways into the future, and the fifth one is a spin-off about Phoenix's rival, you wouldn't be missing integral parts of the main story. Phoenix's lawyer stories at least do finish at the third game.
It's very rare for me to prefer a dub voice over a Japanese one, but it does happen. I think another reason I prefer Japanese though is because I'm practically deaf, so at least I have more of a reason to put subtitles on than just because I can't hear. XD;; I put subtitles on everything anyway, so I'm used to reading them, and it doesn't effect my experience at all anymore.
Naruto sounds horrifying. o.o Glad I don't watch it.
Haha, I don't believe in standing by your word. XD I mean, often if someone goes against something they said previously, or changes their mind, it's because they gained knowledge since earlier, and are applying that knowledge to their new decision. And it's Captain Failcon, hun.
I've watched most of his non-YUU*GI*OU videos, and they're often pretty funny. At least good for a quick laugh. The newest video is awesome by the way. Yuugi is on a leash the entire time. XD

@Rikkai: I've never even been out of the country... XP What state do you live in, by the way?
I don't know if it's on VC. XD;; I just assumed it was because of the demand for it, but I was checking with you 'cause I thought you'd know better than me. XD;; Sorry if I got your hopes up and it's not... how do you even play Earthbound here? Didn't they never bring it to the US?
As mentioned earlier, you can now download Ace Attorney on the Wii for much cheaper. :3
Ah, so it was kind of like when they added spell counters, ritual monsters, and card name sets (like Archfiends)? XD That's pretty easy to move into then. Yes, I know how to play quite well, as I have been since Junior High. :3
Princess Tutu and Utena FTW!!

@JK: Yeah, I have been meaning to try Code Geass as well, but haven't quite yet.
My biggest anime/manga list probably goes: YUU*GI*OU (particularly Duel Monsters), Okane ga Nai, Yami no Matsuei, Princess Tutu, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Pokemon, Dragon Ball series, Pretear, I, My, Me! Strawberry Eggs, Aquarian Age: Juvenile Orion, +Anima, Death Note, Azumanga Daiou, Sailor Moon, Host Club, DNAngel, Fake, Angel Densetsu, X.
Video games would be: Zelda, Ace Attorney, Mario, Left 4 Dead, Professor Layton, Fire Emblem, Smash Brothers, The World Ends with You, Final Fantasy (IV only; not really too fond of any of the others), Pokemon, Oukami, God of War, Little Big Planet, Portal.
Okay, so I'm a little obsessed! gonk
Yeah, one shot yaoi tend not to be that great. Have only read one novel so far, but the manga are pretty much the same. That's why I like Okane ga Nai so much, because it has plenty of the good stuff, but isn't just about that, and has enough plot to last up to eight volumes so far. Only one shot yaoi manga I've read and liked was Stolen Heart. Red was also superb, but that one didn't actually have any actual sex scenes, so I feel it was more of a 'shounen ai.'
