"I went to school.. sporadically," Lin admitted, "I was mainly taught by anyone who I managed to get a hold of."

There was almost a look of innocence to her as she said this, because as anyone knew Lin got a lot of people to teach her.

"So who taught you?" Miyuki asked her mommy.

"A lot of people, Sir Valdemar, Elros, your grandmother, a few teachers, Vincent.... your grandfather...."

"I think you were taught by just about everyone you know," Celebor spoke up. "Just like Miyuki."

Earendil grinned. "That could be the best way to do it," he suggested. "I mean, you're certainly not limited to what you can learn that way, are you?"

"Certainly more interesting," Lin admitted.

She looked over at Miyuki and chuckled.

"I bet you wouldn't like just sitting in a class all day learning facts."

Miyuki thought about it, "Just sit?"

She couldn't imagine that.

"Just sit," Shiro chuckled. "Sit at a desk and take notes, and do the same thing over and over and over again ..."

"That really does not sound so different from being tutored," Earendil mused.

"The difference is that when you're finished your work, you can move on or leave," Shiro replied flatly. "In school, you have to sit there for a set amount of time, and if you finish your work early there's nothing else for you to do."

"The thing about being tutored is, it's either you or a handful of students," Lin replied, "In a school there are several classes going on at once, each teaching a different subject to a roomful of students. As nice as it would be to be able to get up and leave once you're done, can't do that when you have a roomful students and you never know which ones will behave and which ones will be a pain."

Lin shook her head and chuckled a bit.

"Really the only class I ever liked was when I went off to high school for meet others my 'age' and ended up taking gym. Not the same as training but just as amusing, probably because Triton was the one stuck teaching it."

"How is gym class amusing?" Shiro asked Lin. "I mean sure you get to be active, but ..."

Amusing? It didn't amuse him in the least. Sure he wasn't as active as Kaito, but he did enjoy being a bit active - and yet gym hadn't amused him at all.

"Because this was in a normal high school, with normal teenagers, which means no combat classes and no magic classes and you're asking Triton to teach these kids about physical activity. Triton hasn't played a sport in his life, his idea of sport is sparring with someone for an hour or until one of them says stop."

Maybe a tad exaggeration but Lin knew for a fact that Triton had never played a sport. He hadn't even played tag as a child, he only did it now because of Iris.

"The boys were easy, they thought he was the coolest thing ever for allowing them to do archery, staff, hand to hand and acrobatics. It allows them to try and one up each other which was amusing because sometimes Iris would up them all when she was around. The girls were a problem because a good portion of them thought being female would except them from the class. They either hated his guts or they had a crush on him. You never wondered why he's always coming home with fish shape cookies and he's looking at them like they were explosives? I guess to put it this way, it's not the class I find amusing, I know all this stuff, it's the students part of the class I find amusing."

"Ah, I wondered about that," Shiro laughed. "Of course, the people."

"I'm confused," Kaito spoke up, his brow furrowed deeply, his ears pricking forward. "You said this was in a normal high school ... why was Triton teaching there?"

It sounded as if Lin were talking about Triton teaching in a regular school as opposed to Fuilteach.

"Recently... which probably is now over a year ago in Gaia time, mother and Mr. Scott set up an exchange program with a local high school. Sometimes the magic and fighter classes stick so close to each other, they have a tendency of forgetting what it's like to be among average people. Part of the program is to have go betweens the student council and a representatives from each of the two classes. Irvine was chosen for the magic class, Mr. Scott, having far too much trouble with it chose Triton even though he graduated ages ago. I'm pretty sure he begged Triton to take the position and as it happened they needed a gym teacher anyways. Triton is waiting for Mr. Scott to find someone else. He's hoping once Mr. Scott does he can retire so to speak to the family dojo now that people know it exists."

That and Lin was pretty sure with all the weird things that tended to happen to Triton, he didn't even want to be teaching at Fuliteach any time soon unless his mother asked him.

"Go figure Irvine would be chosen for the magic class," Shiro quipped. "I'm sure he can do anything Storm and Starr can do magically."

It was well known throughout the school - and beyond - that Irvine was one of the most promising magical students there - if not the most promising.

"And being a representative is good for him," Lin replied.

This was true, Irvine had self esteem issues, so this was actually quite good for him.

"It sounds like your school was neat," Miyuki told her mommy.

"Well I would say more dysfunctional at times."

Earendil had heard stories, and he could only agree.

"At any rate," he said, bringing the subject back to where it had become, "Ruque, maybe you should consider it. Going to school and learning formally, I mean."

Ruque couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I'm pretty sure I would be the oldest student the school has," he grinned. "But I'll think about it."

"Or you can ask if to apply as an intern," Lin pointed out, "That's what your nako did. I mean technically she was a senior student when she applied in terms of age, and due to unique needs she was made an intern, an assistant to Yukito."

It allowed for specific lessons to be taught by the family that would be difficult be teach in a class setting.

"She still has classes, but taken only out of interest, most of her learning was done through Yuki."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 29, 2010 3:49 pm

"I'll consider it," Ruque said again, a bit more seriously this time. "I would probably have to do it that way anyways just because I wouldn't really fit into the regular classes. Prerequisites and so on ..."

He was above the beginners but below the advanced students. An apprenticeship or an internship might be exactly what was best for him.

"Yes, that would be a pain to deal with," Lin agreed.

"Would you really go?" Miyuki ask him, "Because mommy said time passes faster here."

She knew that's why (and he promised nako) he couldn't come with them.
