Darn old people taking our jobs! ... I hate to admit it but I frequent Wal-Mart for their .33 votive candles. They also have .50-1.00 votive holders. Not only that but they have material on sale all the time.

Anybody else go to Wal-Mart, Meijers, or the like?

I would...but I dont live withing walking distance to them

I do live right next to a CVS however, and i usually go to that

but since my mom worked for partylite for awhile. I am set on candles lol

I go to Wal-mart and Meijers more than I'd like to admit... redface But they really can't be beat as far as prices go. Plus they lack that certian air of condescension a few of the metaphys stores around here have ($13 for a green taper thats been "blessed"? I can do the same for considerably less...Or the $50 tiny cast-iron cauldron when you can pick up a good soup pot for roughly half that price and get better usage out of it). While I understand the high prices are more for keeping these local stores alive and breathing, sometimes being reminded that persuades me more than the utter silence and cool stares...(seriously, if they have something to say to me, wouldn't you think they'd say it after 6 years patronage?!)

Our Wal-marts being revamped into something larger..with food involved. Meijers pretty sweet since they also sell a lot of local products along with things you can't really find around town. As employment goes...both seem to have a fair share of old and young. With 401k plans going bust, retirement being a fantasy, prescriptions getting jacked up in price, flu scares and people living longer, I think we'll be seeing quite a bit more elderly folk out working. Sad thing that they have to at such an age to get by (I cant tell you how many old folk still work to barely pay bills, live in crappy little apartments and depend on an unreliable bus schedule to get around town. Its sad.)

Ugh. Live four min. walking distance from one, and I've worked for them - twice. I will never do that again. Yes, they have cheap candles, and some pretty good stuff for crafting things, but I tend to despise chains in general and that one in particular. If I must go to a retail chain, I prefer Hobby Lobby. Little pricier, but they have good stuff. Thinking of going there to see what they have for my Equinox celebrations - part of it includes decorating my brother's grave, and I want something special. Am willing to take suggestions.

Im sorry to hear about your brother 3: (wow, i know someone with that last name 0.o) If I can think of anything I will let you know.
I have heard of Hobby Lobby from charmingpixieflora (the youtube girl i was talking about on a dif. thread), and she loves it there. Except, i have never heard of it and I dont know where it is :/ But it would be cool to go!

Prefer Hobby Lobby? I find that somewhat ironic for a Pagan to say, since they're an overtly Christian company (in the tradition of the founder, I hear). Just eyeballing the "Testa-mints" at all their checkout lanes along with the Christianized calendars makes that plain as day to me when I visit. xd

Lol. I knew about their pro-christian stance. But a.) I don't buy testa-mints, b.) they have a better selection, and c.) I know enough to know what to avoid. Besides, as I said, I go there only if what I need is unavailable at smaller shops. smile

Yeah, I shop there too, but they're also pretty much the only major craft store in my area. Oh well. I don't like that store in general - not because of its heritage - but because of how its laid out. Too much bric-a-brac junk and not enough substance. Michael's seems to be a better overall craft store... at least the ones I've been in.

*facepalm* [perv moment]

It makes me want to write "cles" over the mint part!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for Hobby Lobby, I like their craft stuff as far as the arts&crafts things and I like their mirrors.
Oh man... one time I spent twenty minutes looking at all their mirrors... then I went over to the crosses for five. (Btw, I'm Pagan but the cross, with no religious affiliation, is another obsession like my mugs.)
I like collecting these things, which are laughs by the way: Pentacles, Crosses, stars, moons, angels, faeries. I'm pretty weird but the angels are for my dream of flying, crosses are just two lines intersecting one another (tattoo crosses or tribal design crosses are my favorite.), and well... you can guess the rest.
Thank you for reminding me. I'm going to write something up on it soon as I can.
CUUPS ritual, as usual.
Mabon, as a time for remembering those who have gone on to the Summerlands, was particularly eotional for me this year - see my sig. Looking forward to Samhain and Yule, though. whee
Isn't Samhain for honoring those who had passed into the Spirit World, Summerlands, Heaven, etc.?
