His hand inches the back of her neck to stroke her hair. "I made a career out of running, Ish. For a long time my answer to everything was running away. And I've found that there is no better place to run to than here." He reaches over his shoulder, rubbing down his spine where some of the conduits that connected him to Bardiel used to be. "It's not cowardice, per se, because no matter where you go, you take it with you. Just a change of friendly faces. Sometimes terrible things happen when we pursue power or happiness, but you'll find that no one understands that better than the crew here. So, if you need time to look your actions in the face, which you must do, spend it here."
Reeve emphasises his words to gently hint at a suspicion of his. She is of course different than anyone else he's ever met, but to Reeve, she has similarities with most. That is, he's afraid she's having her strings pulled, and fresh from that hell himself, his is a cautionary tone.

She shivered as his hand inched up. When she opened her eye she noticed his movements, how he rubbed his back with one hand and then the look in his eyes. He knew something.... But at the same time he was concerned. She narrowed her eyes. Then why? Why was he doing this? His words were carefully picked, which made her want to pull away. Her instincts told her that what ever he was planning was dangerous. Her face calmed and she lifter her head, looking at him very seriously.
"You eyes are looking at me like im an enemy... So why are you showing concern? " She put her defenses back up, it had been stupid to think he would take her seriously. Something wasnt right with him... "Am i wasting my time thinking you are someone i can trust?"

"Oh, man," Reeve says, pulling his hand back. "You don't know how to read people, do you?" He doesn't stare, squint, or watch- his expression is passive. "I didn't call you an enemy. I think you might be making a mistake, that's all. You'd know if I thought you were an enemy. Because," and here the lucidity fades, into a narrow, emerald-eyed squint with a voice dripping with venomous sincerity. "If it were you, and you willfully decided..what I mean to say is, if I thought you were trying to work me over and take advantage of me, like the king son-of-a-b***h that strapped me into that machine, I'd slit your throat and leave you in a ditch." His stare is hard and unflinching, and only slowly does it recede into the soft, time-worn face Ishi had seen before. "But," he says, stretching languidly, "Obviously I don't expect that of you, since we're sitting here talking. Relax. I like you. And that doesn't just come from drinking."

Anothe cold shiver ran down her spine, this time causing her shoulders to grow stiff and her eyes narrow into a deadly glare. She didnt like this, she wasnt using him, she liked him, wanted to learn about him. She had a mission, and she didnt think that compared to his torture. Neko just wanted to watch him, right? Ishira didnt want to question that, she needed to trust Neko. She moved away from Reeve, getting on her feet but not keeping her eyes off him.
"You seem like a person that would keep an enemy close, just to mess with their heads... So im not sure that our talk is any more then a ploy. Im not here to harm you, i havent shown any hostility towards you, but right now you dont feel right..." Her words were candy coated poison, as she crossed her hands and looked over his every reaction. "Im not sure i read you wrong, maybe i should be the one worried here."

Reeve laughs mirthlessly. "Messing with people's heads is not how I play the game. You must have got the wrong intel, sweetheart," he says, balancing on his toes in a low crouch. "That's Syn's work, evidently. Not that I know why. I keep friends close because they keep me from going crazy with all the things I've done. I keep you close because the day I met you, you were an absolute wreck thanks to my brother and I thought you might need some support. But if I'm wasting my time giving a s**t about you and what you do, and why, and for who, then let me know, so I can take my happy a** to war with whoever has my son."

"Who the hells Syn? Intel? The only thing i know about you is what you have been saying and what ive seen. I dont have a clue any other way. Im not playing games, if you kept me close to you because you felt sorry for me then i was truly wrong in following you..." Her fists balled, that was the only reason anyone accepted her here, because of him. Because of Tutsumi. "You only took me in because of that man. Thats insulting... I should have just left this damn place to begin with, i should have known i wasnt meant to be here when my students and i were thrown away like trash." She was hurt, her body shaking as she held back the tears that were starting to build. Thats all they cared about, was him. Everyone remembered her through him, he was the reason anyone knew her. He was the reason everyone threw her away. He, who did so much to her, caused her so much pain, was still causing it.
"I dont expect you to give a s**t, no one has. Everyones just lied to me this entire time... It was for him... Ill leave, since apparently hes the only reason you allow me here." She bowed her head, her hair covering her extremely red face. Her chest was tight and filled with sharp pains. She felt like she was breaking, and she wanted to leave, but her legs were shaking. They wouldnt listen.

Instantly Reeve springs to his feet, his hands on her shoulders, willing her to stay where she is. "I didn't take you in. I didn't throw you out. I don't have the capacity to make that call, Ishira," Reeve says tensely, his neck slightly craned to look her in the eye. "I don't know who told you I have any kind of authority here, but I don't. No one made the call to take you in, and no one is kicking you out. You chose to be here, and I chose to stick by you. That's not pity. It's concern. Friendship, at the very least. I can't promise that no one is lying to you, but I can swear to you I am not. I've been honest with you- probably too honest. And while I'm on the subject of honesty, I'll go ahead and say that it scares the hell out of me how honest I am with you." He takes a step back and a deep breath, laying his cards on the table.
"After all that's happened,I should sleep with one eye open because you're new to me, but I don't. There's a kind of serenity that I should only feel with people I've known for years. I want to say, I want to know it's because you're a good person, but too much has gone wrong for me to expect such a good thing. And so, I wonder if you're just good at what a kunoichi does. And why, since all kinds of people are showing up lately."

Ishira bit her lip, closing her eyes tightly. He was going to hate her, and would probably never understand. She truly trusted him, felt something different when she was around him. His touch was warming to her, pleasant. It had been so long since someone showed her anything that resembled anything close to pure worry. He cared, like a close friend. Neko was her teacher, not a friend, and he rarely showed any sign of caring for her. She tried shallowing the guilt in her throat.
"Its the same way with me... It does scare me, it scares the hell out of me... I didnt expect this, im use to people just pushing me away, using me... Hating me... " Her voice was shaking, she was scared, very scared but not for the reason he would think. She needed to finish this, before it got too far, but she wanted to stay as well. More then anything she wanted the slap herself. She looked at him, knowing she would hurt him, knowing he would hate her. The hate scared her. What he would do to her, how he would try to hurt her. He was the first in so long to touch her like this, and she didnt want to admit or lose it. "Reeve, you have power, you do. Your strong and wonderful. You should hate me, your instincts tell you too, just like everyone elses. Im not safe, my darkness and Tut have made me this way. Youll hate me, soon enough, just like everyone else...." She wanted to back away, she wanted to run. He wasnt what she expected. If only he had just continued to treat her the way he had when they had first ran into each other. She couldnt help it, her tears streamed down her face. This couldnt have just been easy...

"Hey," Reeve says, shaking his head. "You can't get mad at me for mentioning Tutsumi and then blame him. But more to the point..." He pauses, half- extending hand to wipe her cheek, but he retracts, not knowing what she might think of it. "For Christ's sake, don't confirm my suspicions. Why should I hate you? Why should anyone?"

Ishira shook her head, she wanted the reach for his hand, but she puts them close to her chest, where her necklace was. Letting out a little chuckled and she looks down. "Everyone ends up hating me... Other then my students... And.." She wanted to say Tut but after what had happened.... She was screwing up, she knew it. There was no way Reeve would take the pendant. "Im just saying there arnt a lot of people who stick around... Im not saying anything other then that.. People leave, they become resentful towards you when you dont let them in fully. I can never do that... Reeve, i didnt come here to hurt you.. I fear i will, because ive done that to many people without meaning too. This thing that has both of us trusting each other way too much only makes me think that ill end up screwing up. " She hadnt told him anything that was a lie, but she wasnt telling him the complete truth. He was rubbing off on her, which wasnt good.

"Other people might hate you, and you might hurt other people, but hey, I'm not every other guy," Reeve says with an absolutely cheeky grin. His way of lightening the mood. "Just watch yourself, Ishira," he says more seriously. "As foreign and frightening this trust in you I have might be, I don't want to regret it."

He would, he would regret ever staying at her side. Some how she knew that. Something about handing him the pendant and leaving would piss him off. Hed hate her, and soon he would realize that she wasnt lying when she said he would. Her body was stiff, her chest still hurt, and the damn tears wouldnt stop. She knew how she could deal with this, but it would totally give her away... Ishira took a deep breath, letting the cool air enter her body and relax her. Her eyes became gentle as she looked back at Reeve. She didnt want to lie to him, but didnt know what to say that would cause any more damage. "I dont want you to regret it either... I dont want to regret having trust in you either... I know your different, im not meaning to say youll be like the rest..." What had he meant by telling her to watch herself? Did he think she was in trouble? She wasnt sure..

"If you don't want me to regret it, don't make me," Reeve says tersely. He didn't accuse her outright, but at least he can warn her. "I still don't understand why you would. Near as I can tell I've been good to you." His arms extend slightly as he fights the urge to hug her.

Ishira wiped the tears from her eyes and took a step foward. One hand went to Reeves shoulder and the other almost to his cheek. She stopped, looking him dead in the eyes. Maybe hed get it if he saw what she was feeling. Maybe hed understand she wasnt here to betray him, to hurt him in anyway. She was only here to give him a pendant, nothing dangerous.
"You have been good to me.." Her voice low and her eyes almost looking tired. She needed him to understand, so that he would trust her enough to take the pendant, and so that he wouldnt be mad when she left. He may have not accused her of anything yet, but he surely believed things that she didnt want him to.

"So don't betray me," Reeve replies. It's simple and honest enough. He doesn't know why she came but if Iri is to be believed- and there's someone who'd truly never lie to him- there's venom in her sweetness. But then, that was the whole point. "Trust doesn't come easy anymore," he says as he wraps his arms around her. The embrace isn't a romantic one, at least overly. He places his hands carefully to avoid that image, but there's a difference, an almost imperceptible tightness of it that hints at that sort of emotion.
