Still Adonijah continued to lead them forward. He showed no hesitation as he walked, leading them in a zigzagging path known only to him.

After a while, Amdir turned to Feng and Naida.

"Are you planning on staying with him?" he asked quietly. "If you are, I'm going to head home ..."

Feng nodded, "We are, I'm worried and Naida wants to be there."

She didn't mind staying out here, it was't like they were going to freeze any time soon, and Naida did want to be there, so did Feng.

Amdir nodded and put one hand on Feng's shoulder, squeezing it gently.

"Thank you," he murmured; and then he was gone, his white hair helping him to vanish into the snow that was falling now thicker than ever.

Adonijah looked over his shoulder, hearing that his father was leaving, then glanced at Feng and Naida. His gaze rested on them for a few moments before he turned away, though for once it was not out of shyness that he did so.

Mother and daughter tilted their heads curiously at Adonijah wondering what he was thinking. They or rather Feng continued to follow, not sure where Adonijah was going or even if they were going to be able to find their way back afterwards.

She hoped they weren't going to get snowed in anywhere.

Still Adonijah led them forward, for quite a while longer, until at long long last, they reached a large boulder that seemed to have fallen from the mountainside. There were several tree trunks under it, as if the boulder had fallen onto the trees. Adonijah licked his lips and began to sing softly. What little Dark Elven blood he had in him was enough to have imbued him with the magic of the Wishsong, and he summoned up a fire that melted away the snow that had drifted up against the trees, revealing an opening just large enough for them to crawl through. Once it was clear, he crawled inside and into the darkness.

Feng looked down for a moment, she wished she brougt Naida's carrier, it would make this easier.

"Hold on tightly," she told her little girl as she crawled through with one arm, using the other to hold Naida close to her.

It was dark, which was obvious but she didn't know what to expect to see. She didn't even know there was a cave here, but that wasn't a surprise that she didn't know.

Once Adonijah was inside, he held his hands close together and created a light orb, the same kind that Aragost had taught Adanedhel to make as a child. Adonijah had never been taught how to do it, but he had seen his oldest brother make them often enough that he had figured it out on his own.

The cavern, once they were inside, was large enough for them to stand up and walk around in, and Adonijah made his way over to a corner, where he sat against the wall and stared silently at the orb in his hands.

From time to time he would glance up at Feng and Naida, looking curious and yet at the same time nervous, though his breathing was calm and he showed no fear for the first time since he had met them.

Feng sat somewhere else, not too near Adonijah knowing how it made him nervous, and he was easily nervous. However, Naida did not care so much, and wiggled out of her mother's arms.

Like Feng had before she ever learned to walk, Naida dragged herself across the ground towards Adonijah looking up at him with hopeful eyes.

"Where are we?"

Adonijah looked away from his orb as Naida dragged herself over to him, and he forced himself not to flinch away from her as she spoke to him.

"Underground," he replied quietly. "Near the mountains ... far from home."

His gaze flickered back to the glowing orb in his hands. "My thinking place."

Feng and Naida were the first besides himself to ever see it, though of course they would not realize that. He was surprised at himself for letting them in, for taking them directly there ... but if he was going to change himself, his life, then it was best to begin right away rather than put it off. For once he put it off, he would continue to do so until it was too late for him to change.

Naida stopped about half way through because her arms were getting tired. She flopped down and rolled on her back so she was looking at Adonijah upside down.

Feng nearly sighed knowing that Naida's white hair was going to become muddy not that dirt was ever an issue when you were a mer, but she was going to have to have a good dip in the river after this.

The little girl blinked once... she blinked twice and then asked him.

"Do you need a hug?"

Adonijah blinked, first in surprise, and then in fear. It was one thing to force himself to talk to other people, to not run away from them ... but physical contact was in a completely different sphere. He shook his head at Naida. No, he didn't even hug his mother ... he wasn't going to accept hugs from other people.

"No hug," he said quietly, turning his eyes away shyly.

"Oh..." Naida replied thinking about it, "Okay!"

She wiggled a bit which got dirt on her butt, or scales as it were. She rolled around again until she was on her stomach looking sort of up at Adonijah because she couldn't look up that far.

"You just looked like you needed one because you looked all sad and like."

Adonijah was sincerely surprised at the Surprise's assessment of his emotions. She was right ... he was a bit sad ... but he was also thoughtful, and it was his thoughts that were occupying him at the moment, not his sadness.

he shrugged one shoulder, unsure of what to say.

Naida blinked not understanding what the problem was, but she laid still there. She figured he just wanted to be left alone, but she wanted to talk to him, but he wasn't much for talking as she knew. Naida tried to keep quiet she really did, but eventually a minute or so later she asked.

"What are you thinking about?"

Adonijah frowned at the orb in his hands. "I ..."

He trailed off. It wasn't as if he didn't know what he was thinking about, it was just ... he wasn't sure if he was comfortable talking about it. After all, it wasn't a very pleasant thought he was thinking ... but then, he was never comfortable with anyone except Rose and certain members of his family, and wasn't that what he was trying to change?

He swallowed hard. "I ... I'm thinking ... I ..."

He looked over at Feng, and in the mid darkness of the cavern, his face was a faint shade of red.

"I don't want to be alone," he whispered finally. "I don't want to be scared of people ... I ... I don't want to die alone."

He looked back down at the orb in his hands, twisting it slightly so that it would dim a bit.
