Haru- Mmm...well basically it caused a mass infection of his chakra which ended up infecting him causing a serious fever. This fever led to a series of memories lapses that made him realize something was wrong however by that time he was so infected that he couldn't stop. So, in a baffled and misguided attempt to warn the Kage of the dangers, he went at her. However he couldn't control his chakra and attacked her instead of warning her.
Basically, he tried to do the right thing and got screwed. Super screwed as it turned out cause now he doesn't know what happened and no one was around to see what had happened.
And you're gonna have two students biggrin

Even former lords and ladies in history (I assume), and in fantasy novels, the same thing happens.
