"Don't underestimate your ability, Piper. and I am fully confident in your ability to fight. but you haven't lost any friends yet. and this encounter may very well cost you some, had they been brought, and one is coming with us. Plan carefully as I might, I cannot garantee everyone's lives. That was my only concern."

He took a moment to realize that the damn horse was moving again, easily making up lost distance to Malik and Piper. Stupid no sense of movement accept for teh scenery...or rather what there was to be seen period. Underdark was in fact dark.
Though he went back to his silence that so often irritated, letting his eyes closed as he went through his own plans in his head for this little fray. It would be quite the fun challange indeed wouldn't it?
"Hm?" She actually did blink in surprise at him...what was he doing? Scanning thoughts with Malvoence...she knew he couldn't mindread with thier bond, he wasn't naturally telepathic...all she thought she was transmitting was a little bit of downbeat evasiveness. Damn sword...but she knew why did it, he always wanted to make sure she was okay. "I know I'm not drow despite how I may think I am as I've been told." Though she wasn't so sure he was so confident...after all, where was the line of devision in his confidence in her in battle and his telling of her to stay away because she wasn't adept enough in it really. Damned skewed thinking. "I'm fine...don't worry about me, I'll behave myself." Of course by behave she meant not getting herself killed and what not.

Zahara too had fallen into silence having nothing to be condescending about or really nothing to say. She was lost in her own thoughts every once in a while glancing off to the side or something. It was kind of strange to be riding air sidesaddle but then it didn't take long to get used to the same as she had with astride. This worked slightly better condisdering she had Sevilin behind her. Shifting slightly she rested the handle of the sledgehammer between their bodies so they wouldn't touch and gazed off watching the scenery go by.

"Your skill is growing, and growing fast. but Archery is still your forte'. that's something that no Drow really has. we use handheld crossbows in the dark. though I used a long bow it was mostly against very powerful spell casters, or when the extra range was more useful then the poisons or the like. But you've never been in a war. and that's what happening now. I'm only concerned. not questioning your ability to fight, but to handle the losses."
A look back at her.
"You have family, people that care, friends where your from. Drow don't have that. everyone is an enemy. your friends are as likely to abandon or backstab you as they are shake your hand. and that makes you better than most Drow I know."

Ah blessed silence. Well...accept for the sound of Underdark travel and the occasional words between Malik and the surface thing. That was annoying...he was pep talking the thing it seemed. He should of done them all a favor and shoved her off the horse, telling her to go home. Surface elves had no business in Drow affairs.
Maybe if she was high elven he would of given her something...they were adept warriors after all, but she wasn't now was she? Nope...she was going to be nothing but a hindrance. He'd seen how Malik reacted before to her being in trouble...he'd run right off to go to her rescue. Distracting creature. "Are you sure she should go?" He couldn't help himself, he had to say something.
Better than most drow he knew...because they both knew she would have his back regardless of how far away from him she was. He already said it once, he couldn't trust another drow but he could trust her. A look up to him as he looked back. "I can handle it." Ah trademark phrase. She wasn't worried about his little war band, most were nothing but undead pets and the other she didn't involve herself with. Zahara she knew could take care of herself. Sevilin could loose his head for all she cared. Though a glare was instantly given to the Drow at his comment. She knew what he said it...he didn't like her for one and Malik pretty much having to reassure her of things probably didn't look too well for her already fragile enough reputation down here.

Adn he just had to go and break the golden silence wiht his negative question, didn't he? Stupid b*****d. She rolled her eyes and turned to look at him but was presented wiht her back. Stupid Drow. Didn't even know how to ride a horse for Lloth's sake. "Are you talking about Piper?" A shake of her head, "Of course she should go. She can fight just as well as the rest of us. Besides her place is at Malik's side adn you're just going to have to get over that now aren't you Sevilin?" Bad move, don't put down Piper or make references that are negative in her presence, she'll kick your a**.

"Who else would I be talking about here?" A snicker from him as he considered Zahara's question just overly stupid. Of couse he was talking about the surface elf. "I'm sure I could beg to differ...and we've seen it already...stop trying to stick up for her...if she's such the capable surface elf why does she need you to back her up anyhow?" In reality...it was a good question, this was twice now Zahara had taken Piper's back.
"And just becuse your place is somewhere doesn't mean you should be there all the time. Who said I had anything to get over? I'm just looking for potiential hazards in battle. Unfocused attention off leads to being cut down. That's really all I'm saying..."
Well damn...he was right in a sense now wasn't he? Why did he have to be right on things too...and why did he have to point up that it was always her that really backed down and it was true that Zahara was standing up for her. Aka protecting the surface elf and her tender ways from the big bad drow and all the little horrors of the current time. Damn it...Maybe he was right on sending her back too...he seemed to have a knack for being right didn't he?

Well that stopped Zahara for a moment. Honestly when she thought about it, it was true that she forever felt the need to stick up for Piper, yet in the same breath was more than happy to point out how many ways that she was able to take care of herself. Why didn't she let her prove it? Fear? Maybe because she didn't want anything to happen to Piper and thought that although she had faith in her, it would be even better if she took up the slack for her...adn then again maybe she did think Piper needed protecting. "Maybe so but that's up to Malik and Piper to decide. It would be better if you kept your comments to yourself. If Piper wants to go she should be able to go and to hell with what everyone else says, thinks, or does. If Malik dosent' want her to go, well that's between the two of them now isn't it?" A subtle way of telling him to mind his own business.

"Sevilin. if your reffering to my movement to get to Piper while she was in a highly contested area of combat, it's not only to assist her but because as you should well know, a seige engine is always a prime target. I woudl have headed there anyway after getting toward the back ranks."
A glance over at him.
"And speaking of focus. it's your duty to ensure the usage of your runes, not keep tabs on Piper's location. I know about the runes on her weapons, and that it may drain you if she gets to close. but if you don't feel the extra pull on your energies, her location is my concern, not yours.
Despite your personal dislike of 'surface elves' or whatever issue you have with Kieran, Thier archery skills are unequalled. there is no more deadly long range archer than a Fier'dal. And while she is inexperienced in warfare, she has an advantage that most Drow don't have. but that is a personal matter, not one you'd approve of and I frankly don't want to hear the complaints or the speculations."

A slight look over his shoulder to Zahara. "What? I'm not allowed to have an opinion now? That's all it is really...an opinion. I'm just saying wouldn't be be a trite bit rtraget to loose her in all of this?" It wasn't mocking but it very well could of been.
And now they were both doing it...and while he could sling back some rather nasty pointers...he preferred to not make an even greater enemy out of those that were supposed to be allies...and he just didn't want to deal with a verbal argument right now. So he kept it simple and civil...well civil as he could muster at the moment.
"I know that Lord D'Vinn...mayhaps I just saw your motion as...premature." A glance to Malik then. "Contrary to popular belief, it is my buisness to know where everyone in the party I am alligned with are. If I can avoid an unecessary syphoning on my energies, then I plan to...not let it happen then react later. Leave my runes and thier workings to me." He would of pitted her archery skill against her disadvantage against the dark...but he knew she was Ithil'quessir. "ONly half, but all the same then." A little shrug. "But fair enough, I won't mention it again."
Now they were both sticking up for her..."Okay...you can both stop sticking up for me now..." She knew he didn't care what they thought she could do, because he had his own views. And as far as he was concerned. Which meant she had one of two options...either let him do what he did and go on in the passive fashion she usually did...or prove to him that she wasn't like the other surface elves. Oh no indeed she wasn't....she was Piper Silverfeather, soon to be D'Vinn, of moon and wood elf blood having the sight advantages of one side and all the archey skill of the other, magic to boost from both, living in the Underark. Typical surface elf? Not at all.

"You know the answer to that Sevilin. You're allowed to have an opinion but that doesn't mean you have to voice it. Do yourself a favor and keep your mouth shut, after all you wouldn't want to piss of fyour boss, now would you? then he may not pay you and we all know that's why you're doing this." A smirk to him and a glance at Malik and Piper before rolling her eyes. So now the men were going to fight. Well that was fine with her, she'd just sit her and be quiet while listening to them fight. Though it was kind of funny because she had just repeated what Malik had said really.

"Agreed then. I'll leave teh details of your runes and how you use them to your own workings, and let Piper's condition be mine. You have proved very useful, and a deadly ally. despite your mercenary reason for being such. Speaking of dealings with others. Why is it that though you are hunting Kieran, that you would allow him even the two minutes it would take to make any kind of verbal offer to you? I had originally assumed you communicated through perhaps messages delivered via animal companions. one of Kieran's delivering a note to Nym and Nym to you."
A moment for that one.
"And Zahara. He is allowed to voice his opinions, as much as you are. Just try to keep the yelling and the infighting to a minimum. the less bad blood or bitter arguing the better. He has a point, there is no need to speak up for Piper. She's proven before to be more than enough. Personally, I think if you had endured half of what she has, you'd be a broken child."
Hey, he held very low opinions too. but then again, his memory of Llothian type society had women pampered and treated like damn mithril..if you discount the natural backstabbing, assassinations, double, triple and quadruple crossings and the like.

A little shrug to Zahara. "You would do well to follow your own advice. And so what, it's the money that's the motivation...I like to live without too much effort and that's just how it is. You're the one who's staying for free." Which meant he was calling her a freeloader, just not openly. If she got it then she did, if not he didn't care.
But another look to Malik. "I only hunt Silvercrest because he is in a place he shouldn't be, whether the Ithil'quessir claim it or us Mori'quessir do. Surface elves tend to stray from the Peninsula, he doesn't...and Vrist doesn't like that. Especially the Queen. But I don't do it for the Queen, I do it for the pleasure of the hunt. As far as our own dealings...well being a royal as he is he can sway things in my personal favor for me. And I can't catch the b*****d. Any surface elf that can evadde me as he has deserves a bit of respect, surface or not...even if he is a lunatic..."
Piper shook her head and smiled. Of course he couldn't catch Kieran...in her opinion, no one could. Be that jsut because he was her father or just plain truth was the real question. "Well I'm glad he gives you a run for your money.."Malik got a raised eyebrow and a little bit of a playful shove in the shoulder from Piper. "You're telling them to behave?" That was funny...he was telling them what Malik himself and Zahara got into all the time. There was just not stopping bickering between drow it seemed. But still funny that Malik would change his view. Rather than 'just let it happen and snicker about it' it turned into 'just quit it'. "I think I'm rubbing off on you..."

She merely nodded stiffly. Both men had spoken words that she felt would be better to remain silent than to speak her mind. Anger slashed through her and she longed to blast Malik. If she'd endured what Piper had? Zahara knew she didn't know the half of what Piper had endured but she knew for a fact that she wouldn't be a broken child. Nothing would ever put her to that point. He could have his low opinion, again she no longer cared. She no longer cared to fight this never ending battle for respect, no longer cared what Malik or Sevilin thought of her. She knew what she was capable of, she knew the secrets of her former life and that is the way it would stay. Piper didn't want to be stood up for, fine, she wouldn't any longer, she'd let Piper do whatever she wanted to do. Of course she sat stiffly, anger flashing in her eyes and she shoved a hand through her hair, dislodging the clip she always wore. "Dammit!" she growled as she felt it fly off Lloth knew where. That one irritating piece of hair fell over her eyes and only made her so much more cross. "Hold this," she growled shoving the sledgehammer at Sevilin as she pushed her skirt aside and began searching through those hidden pockets for another one.

And now Zahara was angry, eaily know through posture and her little explicit...did one of them always have to be angry? Couldn't they just agree to disagree with each other and leave it alone? But of course not...and Malik didn't have to be so condesending in the first place about it all either...after all, how much did he know of what happened to Zahara? After all...she was a runaway. But she didn't say anything, because she was being passive right now as she usually was.
Ow that hurt. What did you hit me wi-ooooo. Pretty. That hairclip and bonked back right into Nym who had snatched it up and was holding it firmly. It was shiney...and round! Round was good. Though a blink of red eyes at Zahara before taking the clip in his mouth and leaping ot her shoulder. Are you looking for this? Chitter.
