Well, yeah, the thrusters/engines would be the least fortified by the shield because if the shield was as strong there as it was around the entire ship the heat would be trapped and the hull would begin to melt, making it an oven inside the shielding.

Now for a story...
A long time ago, in a Hegemony name Losadum. The Hegemon Ian was doing his Hegemon business, when General Mike came into his palace that was 800 feet squared. Well, the General took a while to get to the very large throne that killed over 9000 people to build, but when he finally got there he said "Milord Hegemon! We are being attacked!" The Hegemon stood up and found this disturbing. "Who dares attack my Hegemony!?" He said furiously and very curiously. The General was a little frighten by this sudden outburst, but he answered. "A strange ruler from a distant land, Aleskadum it translates to in our language!" He then remembered another fact! "Also, this land is not the same as ours, it is a Kingdom." "So he wants to destroy my beautiful Hegemony! Well this King is mistaken! He will fall like all others who have dared to try!" After that short and sweet announcement of just how great he is, he then did his preparations for war.
Meanwhile, King Alexander was riding along on his unicorn surrounded in beautiful pixies and rainbows. Wearing beautiful white silk robes that reflected light to make me glow brightly. Also he had a cloak of real gold in a fabric like form, that draped down behind the unicorn. His army was 500,000 strong, all cute and beautiful magical beings. They frolicked and danced, for they were happy that they will soon have more friends in this world. They came to Losadum, where the army of the Hegemon was awaiting them eagerly. They were ready to destroy this army of the King, so they could party for a week with Hegemon and get completely hammered with General Mike Hammer. The two armies were equally matched, it would come down to who ever had the best strategy to win this battle. The Unicorn the King was riding on reared up and the horn upon it's head shot up a comet like beam of light into the sky and exploded. The Army of Alexander charged ferociously, it went from pretty to ugly in a matter of seconds. Blood and guts were spilled on both sides, soon it became a battle of confusion, and no one knew who or what they were killing, until suddenly the Unicorn made a loud nay in sadness and the General cried in anguish. Both had come across each other, the King and the Hegemon. They were staring at each other in hate and pain. Their swords were in each others chests, and slowly they died. Both sides agreed to stop the fighting and mourn their grand rulers together.
The End.

No, he's been watching Doctor Phil again, and has turned all his inward hate and repressed feelings into a fantastical story of unicorns and a**-hattery. >.>
