Sigil Warden You're spot on, Tres. While I tried to remain as true to the mechanics and flavor of the character as is possible in a medium without health bars and GCDs, I also designed the character, to the best of my ability, to win. And I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, it genuinely surprises me that someone would not do that. Don't get me wrong, I like to break the meta-game in every competitive game I play as much as I think using it, but at the end of the day if you are not already coming in with the mindset that what you do is meant to neutralize and counter your opponents, then why compete? A statement that validates Heita's original argument... Sorry. It just stuck out like a sore thumb.

Simple, Because I'd rather have a fight where it is entertaining to me, my opponent and the judges... ...then beat my opponent in three post with a submission move like the old days. Because you can't win Role Play. Unless by winning, you mean you are creating a memorable experience for you and the people you are playing with. Other than that. None of it matters. You can't take the gold with you. If nobody wants to RP with you because you aren't any fun to play against, then whatever 'title' you won by winning has no meaning because nobody gives a damn.

Freeform RP tournaments are still tournaments. There's still a degree of skill involved, and someone still wins while someone else loses. Yes, some people are worse at it, while others are better at it. It's no less a real competition than any other. Nor is the fact that we focus as much or more on fair play; anyone who forgoes fairplay to win is probably a c**t. Being competitive means you want a challenge, not that you want to win.
Also, I don't pay attention to the metagame of tournaments; I set it for others to follow.
Sho'nuff, the shogun of Harlem, etc etc etc.

I can write a good story, this isn't about that.
What I don't understand is that if the tournament is story-driven, then why present it as a competition? Why grade it? I stated my intent, which was to enter a roleplaying competition and win, not d**k around and ask my opponent what he thinks would be cool.
That's not against the spirit of the thing, that's the thing masquerading as something it's not, then.
If I had known that the people here are not here to compete then I wouldn't have entered. I'm here to test my mind and skill against others, not sit down and brainstorm.

Tres is not a tool for my desires. He is independent. You are not your character and while your character has her desires, they are not your own. As Roleplayers we have to learn how to balance portraying and exhibiting our characters desires, while at the same time working together as Rpers to make sure that the whole experience is both rewarding and memorable. I am here to portray my character and hopefully to enrich the RP experience of others. Winning is merely a shared IC goal. The OOC goal however, never changes. We are here to work together to create an engaging and enjoyable experience.

My character is not here to win, she is here to generally d**k around and beat the s**t out of people because its a) fun, and b) helps pass the time until the Burning Legion arrives and eats Gaia Prime, starting with all of Vintrict's mules. I, the player, on the other hand, am here to win money and a bit of prestige, whilst challenging my mind and generally kicking other people's asses.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer in HoH's guild to find it for you, so I can't quote the link here. But I'll tell you where it is.
HoH09 Lucid vs Kael(Psychofish) we were in a mansion. Read it and weep. The best fight I have experienced on Gaia to date.

so... what's to stop someone from entering Batman into one these things or Wolverine? The core of those characters are simple enough to pass grading...
