"The eighteenth," Maia said. "See, I told you you'd come home in time for the full moon." She would've preferred it in a different fashion.

"That's probably why," Toby mused to himself, and then said to Maia: "They probably don't want me transforming before I'm back on top." And looking at her there, sitting with him, the light in her eyes, he almost asked her right there, but no. She deserved something more special. So he smiled.
"I should visit Kevin this time."

"I can't say I wasn't a bit worried about that," Maia admitted. She'd thought about it, what if Toby wasn't ready to undergo the pain his transformations caused?
"He'd like that," She said, and smiled at him. "You'll probably be treated to 'fifty reasons why this is so cool.'"

"Eh," Toby said with a shrug, "I did it once under intense mental and physical duress, and this is nothing like that. I just feel like I'm coming off a cold."
He stole a cookie and smiled when he bit into it.
"Probably. He's not bad, for a kelpie. We caught him in time. He's not a bad kid in general."

Maia put a hand through Toby's hair. She didn't think she had to ask which time that was.
"You tamed a Kelpie," she shook her head at him and smiled. "I didn't think it was possible. He's sweet. Even if he likes killing virtual things."

"Eh, the T-word is pretty taboo out here," Toby teased, "but yeah. I mean, a lot of human kids love killing virtual things. It when they start killing actual things that it becomes a problem." He shifted to sit up straighter and offered Maia a cookie.
"You know, people used to think kelpies and the like were creatures more than people. Like the <********> nuckelavee. Yet they counted cat sidhe as almost people."

"I thought he acted more like a teenager you could fund in the mall than what I read about them." Maybe he'd just been at the most impressionable when they'd found him. She'd heard that after they'd met him, he'd insisted on eating only pizza.
She took a cookie and bit into it. "That's weird. Cat sidhes don't have a human form, but they are smart."

"He is a teenager! I mean, by kelpie standards. We don't know how old he really is." He shrugged. "Really if he had been in better shape we might have had a battle on our hands, but that water was awful and he just... didn't stick. If we gave him his bridle back he'd be drowning everyone from here to Rhode Island. And that's why we can't give it back." He smiled and gestured with the bitten cookie, then shoved the whole thing into his mouth.
"Yeah, I think I'll do that. I think I'll go visit him. Early on, maybe, so he's not waking up in the middle of the night to a big scary monster at his door."

"Except you," Maia teased. "He's especially fond of you." It was like feeding a seagull, maybe. Or was feeding a puppy a better comparison? Whatever the case, Kevin had for some reason attached himself to Toby.
"He'd probably be impressed you managed to scare him," she said, then nodded. "Early on, then I'll take you swimming."

Toby laughed and shook his head.
"Yeah. Don't know why. I'm not the one who plays games." He nodded then and brushed the crumbs off of his bed. "That sounds great, and thank you, Love."

"Because you fed him when he was hungry?" Maia suggested. She stroked his hair. "There's enough to hold you until dinner," she paused and leaned forward to whisper, "I'm ordering from that sushi place, what do you want?"

"Probably." He chuckled then and kissed Maia's nose. He was confident enough in her knowledge of him to say: "Surprise me, and some gyoza too." Ah, yes. Real food! He was delighted.

Soon enough Toby was home and the weekend came fluttering in. Dari predictably disappeared to see Cody, but this time without a call. He wanted to surprise him, and knew he'd probably be at home either grading papers or sleeping. He rushed to the man's apartment and gleefully knocked on the door.

Cody hadn't stirred from his position on the couch for hours, but he seemed to register the noise wasn't a dream. "Whozzat? What?" he looked around groggily and let his head fall back on the couch cushion he was using as a pillow.
"I'm coming," He called, before getting up on the couch. He stretched with a groan and stood. He went over to the door. He opened the door. He stared. He wrapped his arms around Dari and held him tightly.

Dari more or less squeezed Cody and lifted him off of the ground, grinning from ear to ear.
"I'm back, I'm back!" he said, and stole a kiss from Cody while he was still up in the air. "I missed you so much."
