Sir Valdemar nearly choked on his first bite of food, caught halfway between a gasp and a fit of laughter.

"I thought you might have come from that family," he chuckled when he caught his breath back again. "By all that's holy, your family has a tendency to turn up. But fifteen of you from a vase ... then again, it has been a number of years, I suppose that's not wholly unexpected."

He nodded thoughtfully. "Your mother must be quite busy with all of you," he commented.

Gion felt the coolness of the surrounding mist penetrating his skin and shivered involuntarily. He wasn't fond of this place, but it made sense that this would be where to start looking for the people who were targeting his mother.

He looked up at Yue, feeling a sense of being cut off when the portal was closed. But still.

Do you need to rest? he asked his angelic friend. You've saved us four weeks after all, we can take all the time you need to recover from using whatever energy must have been required.

Even Gion, who knew very little magic of his own, knew that any magic use required the strength of the user.

She decided it was better if she ate with her fingers, seeing as she would get more on herself if she tried with a fork anyways. Lin picked up the smallest bit she could find and bit into it. Swallowing she answered back.

"Not that busy..... we're not all hers, but they're still family.. they're..." she paused thinking, "Whatever you call those people who are part of your siblings family. Yukito has one, and Yue has one... well he also had twins, they don't talk much, and... Elnara has six of them," Lin paused, "and then the rest are Mommies.. which includes me, and Kali, and Feng and Ryu, and Yue and Yukito and Trisha."

She munched on her food a bit more, after all a serious conversation was hungry work.

"Just a bit," Yue admitted under drooping lids, though he'd rather not be here to rest, even though his body didn't care where he rested. This place was just too... well barren.

"Nephews and nieces," Sir Valdemar nodded, his eyes growing bright. He was pleased. "So the princess is settling down quite well in your world, that's good." He smiled widely. "I understand we had a visit from one of hers several years back, but we didn't know how many she had then. Six? That's wonderful."

Indeed it was. The poor princess was going through something very similar to what he himself had gone through at the time of the separation of the races, though on a smaller and yet far more personal scale. As poor a student as she had been during her brief stay here (attention-wise, for she was quite a bright student when she applied herself, he thought) he had always hoped that she would find something more.

"Would you possibly do me the favour of sending her my greetings and congratulations?" he asked Lin, looking down at her warmly.

Gion nodded and beckoned for the others to stop. They wouldn't be going anywhere for a bit, then. he himself took a seat on one of the boulders, climbing nimbly to the top and sitting himself down. He had done this not only for a comfortable sitting place (or as comfortable as one could get in a place like this) but also so that he could do a quick bit of scouting. There were after all no eyes that could match elven eyes, and it seemed as though the mists were growing thicker, almost as though there was some unseen power that had sensed the intruders' presence and was trying to make things difficult for them.

There was, as far as he could see, nothing in any direction. Not even any auras that would indicate the slightest bit of life, plant, animal, or otherwise. It truly was a dead land.

"I would," Lin replied back munching a bit more, she doubted she could finish all of that, her stomach wasn't big enough for that, "She would like that I think."

She nodded thoughtfully a that, just imagine what Elnara would think! Then again Elnara didn't know she thought that some others were here too.

"So..." she paused realizing there wasn't much more to that topic, "What do you do?"

Yue took a seat and rested himself, it was cool, but not in a comforting way, perhaps because it was too wet, or just because of the landscape. Even one covered in ice was better than this he thought.

Mia on the other hand wasn't so much distrubed by the scenery in fact she seemed to be staring off into the fog. Not that she had any reason to, but it was a perfect place to stare really.

I know I've said this every single time we've been here... but this place gives me the creeps.

Daemon spoke to Gion to fill in the void, he tended to do that in this area. More for the reason of the lack of auras... and he bet if he was looking through his own eyes the lack of everything. There were no threads, no auras, nothing of a side of life. It really creeped Daemon out after all this time.

"I am the nation's historian," Sir Valdemar replied easily, reaching for his mug and taking a long drink. He set it down once more and continued. "Considering the fact that I am the oldest remaining elf, it makes the most sense for me. Besides that, I'm no fighter," he added dryly. "Given the need, I can fight, but I have little skill and no desire for it."

Indeed, it was through no skill of his own that he was still alive, or by luck, after all the wars he had lived through.

Given a choice, Gion replied, his thoughts dry, I would not have returned. Especially here.

He looked around uneasily. I've told you my worries about this place before, haven't I? he asked his friend. About the spirits and the powers?

Perhaps he hadn't, perhaps he had only had conversations with himself about them. He cast an anxious eye about them once more before focusing on Nadya. He was worried about her. He knew there was nothing here at the moment, but ... the dead could be as dangerous, if not more so, than the living.

At least we know where we are, he shrugged mentally, trying to sound optimistic.

"So you write everything down in books?" Lin asked, since that would to her seem to be the most logicial conclusion of what a historian did.

She could undestand that... kind of, after all not all of her brothers and sisters liked to fight. She got up and toddled over to her mug peering into it, where was a straw when you needed one.

Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:36 pm

Well to be fair you were more thinking them worriedly to yourself than talking to me about it.

Daemon replied back trying to be a bit helpful, in the several times they had come here, he had overheard, but kept to himself. Though he supposed he should have told Gion something about the sword quite a long while ago. Granted he didn't know if they would work here, but it was a thought.

If it makes you feel any better the sword should still have some of it's spiritual powers left.. if all else fails ask Donovan about spirit repelling rituals, he must have picked up something from the Mizu clan. Besides, Laus are a bit supersititious, if I had a body and a few silver pieces I would bet you one that he has the character for luck sewn in red under those white clothes of his, and I bet another silver he's going to change out of those clothes as soon as he can.

Donovan eyed the land warily, he didn't like this place, it was the kind of place the old people talked about for ghost stories. He grumbled about it all being a pain in the butt, as he rose from his seat.

"I'm going to find a place to get out of these damn shoot me now white silks," he muttered as he took his bag.

White shirts were one thing, but this was just a bit much.

"Now?" Triton inquired watching Donovan for a moment before looking back at the land.

Donovan seemed grumpier than usual, maybe it was the land.

"Not everything," Sir Valdemar replied hesitantly. "There are many things that cannot be reavealed. But much, yes. That which is important. I penned most of the books in Her Majesty's library, but I also travel and learn more ... though I have to admit, I'm running out of things to learn. In addition to being a historian, however, I am also the tutor for all of the Aldrich children. I taught them all, right from the first generation ... at least, those who grew up at the palace."

He nodded slowly, thinking back through the generations of Aldriches he had taught ... so many ... so many ...

He noticed Lin contemplating the mug that was nearly the same size as she was, and raised one hand, beckoning for a member of the kitchen staff. He called out a request, and a moment later an egg-sized cup was brought out for her.

"Is this better?" he asked kindly, scooping some of her drink into the tiny cup and holding it out for her.

Sorry, Gion apologized. He knew he had tendencies to think about things while ignoring Daemon. He tried not to, really he did, but sometimes he just didn't think.

Well it looks like you're right about Donovan changing his clothes, he chuckled. But I'm not sure we mean the same type of spirits. I mean, perhaps we do, but maybe not ...

He looked around again.

I just hope we can finish this business sooner than later, he thought frankly. I want to get out of here.
