...Wolfe didn't like the baseball field? Great. NOW what had he done?
Roman sighed softly as he tried to pull himself together as he watched Wolfe carefully. It took so long for Roman to decide to at least try to put the past behind him, but now... now what was he supposed to do?
It didn't... make sense. What the hell did Wolfe want?
Asteil laughed softly as he took a card, glancing at it. "Now what?" he asked, curious. It was quite lucky for Madison that Asteil was someone who would indulge the unicorn...

Wolfe turned his head quickly at the sound of Roman's sigh, hearing the subtle intake of breath even before the wisp of air blew into that lingering heaviness. So wait--was he okay? Or was he just pretending to be? People were so confusing, especially when they didn't do it on purpose.
"I haven't done anything yet," he said finally, words tumbling out as quick as he could make them. Had to get that out before it became a lie. "I don't want you to be worried."
"Well, now you let me look at it so I can do the trick right," Madison teased. "So what is it? Or are you going to make me actually magic it out?"

Roman blinked at those words before smiling. "...thank you," he murmured softly. "...thank you for that." He...really did mean it. He'd been trying to throw himself into life at the Nest so much that he'd tried not to worry about Wolfe-- though anyone who actually knew Roman would tell you that would be impossible. Thus, Roman felt a heaviness lift from his chest at those words, a darkness fade away...
Asteil laughed. "Can you magic it out?" he asked, considering the card.

Things were becoming a lot clearer with that. Roman was worried--and now he knew what about. The better to stay clear of it, then--and the easier too! You can't avoid something you can't see. Well, can't avoid it well, at least.
"Welcome," Wolfe responded, feeling significantly more cheery. So that was all he had to do. No matter what it was, just stay out of it. Couldn't be that hard.
"Queen of Clubs? Three of Diamonds? Seven of Nine?" Madison attempted jokingly. "I won't know till you put it back, silly~"

Smiling delicately, Roman considered things for a moment before looking around the field. "So... how have you been since we last spoke, Wolfe?" the violinist asked quietly, wondering if he should actually try to have a serious--albeit, most likely less than pleasant-- conversation with the boy, or just ignore things for now.
Asteil laughed before sliding the card into the deck. "Can you figure it out now?" he asked, grinning. Oh, silly demon...

"More or less... no, less weird. Don't know if I like it here or not, but less weird than usual," he shrugged, hands in the air, one twirling to catch some thin, invisible object. "It's okay, though. You?"
And no need to gush, to speak, to let the words out. No need and no desire... none at all. Good.
Madison made a face at the demon, "You're not teasing me, are you?" he asked plaintively, absent-mindedly shuffling the deck and quickly producing the wrong card from the top. "This it?"

"It's been... mildly chaotic here, actually," Roman smiled slightly. "I have to say, I miss my theatre greatly. Things are a bit too... crazed here at times," he admitted. "But as for myself, I've been... as well as can be expected?" he suggested.
Could he say what he was thinking? I missed you. I wanted to see you again, but I didn't know if trying to find you would make things worse... maybe it was harder... to know you were nearby... than to think you worlds away...
Asteil shook his head. "Nuh uh. Try again?" he suggested with a grin.

"Crazed, yeah, I get that, know what you're talking about that is," Wolfe nodded, not about to mention that the best he expected out of Roman's well-ness on average was a mild case of nausea, or whatever the equivalent was for him. He couldn't quite get his brain to wrap around an idea of Roman feeling... sick.
"You don't really like things when they go all different and unexpected, do you?"
Madison stage-winced and drew the next (wrong) card. "Second time's the charm?"

"Not usually," Roman admitted quietly. "Although I suppose I should be used to it by now-- it seems to be the story of my life every time I venture outside."
That made Asteil grin. "Third time?" he suggested, glancing at the tarot card on Maddy's head before back at the deck of cards.

"Well yeah. It's why you're always so afraid of... well, I don't know. It's why you don't like things and you don't like to like things, because they're going to change and... You know, maybe that's why you like music. What's written is written, you know?"
What was that he'd said about analyzation? Whatever, just talk, you know? Just talk to fill up any void, because he hated to think of an empty space between them.
Madison's face screwed up in a frown, "I'm sure it would be," he began, reaching forward with his other hand to withdraw a card from the neck of the demon's... neck... thing... "if it weren't hiding."
He shook his head, showing the card to the demon in mock disapproval. "You don't play the player, friend."

Roman remained silent for a long moment before sighing. "Perhaps so," he shrugged slightly. It was a possibility. But Roman wasn't sure that was the truth.
He liked music because it was a form of expression, a place to release what he could not show any other way. When he felt sorrow, his music reflected it-- even if no one else saw it. When he felt joy-- as seldom as that had been-- his music sang of that as well. Where else could one such as Roman find that utter freedom that music gave to him?
But why was Wolfe telling him this? Analyzing him so? Was this a message? Or was it just... talk?
'...you don't like to like things, because they're going to change...'
Was that true? Roman... didn't like to like things. Everything he'd ever cared for left him... but even before then...
No. He hadn't wanted to fall in love with Elias because they came from different worlds. And then Elias had hurt him so badly, scarred him so he couldn't even think of caring for another without the pain rising inside of him... and then he'd dared with Nicole, and she'd left too, in a more terrible way than Elias. And then there was Wolfe... who'd hurt Roman in so many ways and yet freed him as well.
What was he saying...?
Asteil laughed, delighted as he clapped for Madison's trick. "I did enjoy that," he smiled, not really caring how Madison had managed to pull that off. And in truth, he had.

Wolfe shrugged again, somewhat distracted by the field (finally). "Hey... have you ever actually played baseball?" he asked absently, realizing that he really couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of Roman doing that either.
He'd started Roman thinking again, which wasn't necessarily a good thing. Whether he realized it or not, the violinist was afraid of change, change in the worst of ways, perhaps because it happened so often, perhaps moreso because he when he did care, he cared more than anything. Whatever the case, distractions would be good. Marvelous, really. He just... just wanted to talk, not really to have it mean anything. Not anything bad, at least--and he had a regrettable habit of talking about the bad things.
"I live to serve," Madison echoed his initial greeting. "And for someone to be so happy with there tawdry tricks I have to offer... is lovely," he tipped the hat again. "You wouldn't by any chance know where I could an audience a touch more challenging, do you? I fear I crave a true test of my abilities, from someone less forgiving than yourself."

"Actually, no. Although I've observed several games," Roman admitted quietly. Not that he'd been paying much attention during those games, but... he'd tried. He'd only gone to those games because... well...
And it came to a circle, didn't it. Everything always returned to one of a very few number of people.
"The most challenging people in the house to please are probably..." Asteil considered it for a moment, "Mordred and Lucius, actually. D'ya want to meet them?" the demon suggested.

"Didn't think so," Wolfe teased, poking Roman's arm amusedly. "Didn't think you'd be interested in sliding through dirt, even if you probably don't mind hitting something with a piece of wood every once in a while," shaking his head slightly, he put his hands on his hips and leaned down to look Roman square in the eye, "You're going to play when we set everything up though, right? Right?"
Choices, choices. Shiny angel with tendency towards impaling or creepy snake dude he'd only ever heard of. Though the latter apparently had connections to any of the four he hoped to find... Though they might not be the best of connections, as he'd managed to garner from Atticus' brooding. "Er... the former?" he shrugged, as if neither name really struck a bell.
"Lead the way... what did you say your name was?"

To actually look Wolfe eye to eye was a feat Roman had not anticipated-- but he managed to hold the other's gaze for a moment before smiling slightly. "Of course I'll play," he agreed, wondering what the hell he was doing. Only for you...
"I'm Asteil-- but some people call me Teil," the demon grinned before taking a closer look at Madison. "Are you looking for an audience or someone in particular?" he asked, considering.
