I'm in Pit. Its my first year, even though I'm a sophomore. I learned a completely different instrument in the first two days of pre-camp. I can play cymbals, vibes, xylo, mari. pretty much any pit instrument you throw at me.

I was in the pit for my last two years of high school and I've been volunteering as the equipment manager this season. >.< I just graduated last year and decided to take a semester off before college, so it was perfect. By the way, does anyone else who's been in pit ever had trouble with their instruments falling apart and trying to kill them?

Batterie would have almost no melody without the pit! We have our opener, second movement, and third movement already. Just waiting on the fourth and some finishing touches. =) I play marimba, xylo, vibes, and could be recruited for bass guitar if needed. I also can play with either two or four mallets. ^_^ Any other Minnesotans?!

Pretty much after you learn to technique and your music you just need to practice. It's pretty simple and lots of fun! Good luck!

i just have to say Glockenspiel is the funnest thing, i love how bright it soundss and at first i would ahve to get used to its high pitch resonance but after that i'm in love with it and im not naturally inclined to play it because i'm more saxophonist but i'm getting the hang of it this year :] so now i hope i can get even better for next marching season

The Phantoms Alchemist I was in the pit for my last two years of high school and I've been volunteering as the equipment manager this season. >.< I just graduated last year and decided to take a semester off before college, so it was perfect. By the way, does anyone else who's been in pit ever had trouble with their instruments falling apart and trying to kill them? Yes!! I've been hit with the floor toms, pinched by cymbals, and the brass on my bell mallet flew off and almost hit my eye. Our vibe pedal keeps falling off and the xylo broke along with two pairs of mallets. The bad part is I had to use one of the pair to play 4 mallets on vibes so I had the taped ones on the outside so I wouldn't break them even more. When I first joined marching band I almost had a heat stroke and couldn't go back, then last year the bells fell on my toes. They weigh I'm guessing about 40 lbs, if not much more.

I played alto for 3 years and decided I wanted to play percussion so I joined the pit and was put on bells. I now play all the keyboards and am pit section leader and it's my second year playing pit. hehe

Well, when I tried for snare my freshmen year of college... they said your good, but nothing special. Then again I showed up to auditions with nothing in hand, they said to not bring anything, then said where's your stuff and I had to play music cold turkey. Thus I failed snare.
I got moved to pit where I had never played a scale before, so i had to learn that in a week. I kinda enjoyed that actually... i have no started to learn piano, vibraphone and some horns. BUT when i was pissing around one day on someones snare (bad habit of mine) my band director literally said "DAMN, thats F**king ridiculous, why didnt you try out for snare?"
Um... i did but they are assholes... thus he guranteed me a spot next year and I have won 6 different snare competitions.
Anyone have tips on backing sticking pop sixes?
