muted melodies Ibelin My parents wouldn't buy me one, I think. They'd tell me to get the money myself. I'm going to use the school's stuff while I can. Yeah no way would my parents ever buy me one. I was actually able to talk mine into splitting the price with me. so I can finally get my own horn instead of the schools

aieren oh...mellophone's not that bad...and you get these awesome runs in the mello music that you don't get in horn parts...yeah it's the third heaviest instrument in marching band...tuba, baritone, then melo...but it's still fun. and everybody comes up to you and asks you what the heck you play....the only better name is a flugelhorn... Actually in our band the bari and tenor sax's also play and march. And they are both heavier than the mello. And alto, is alto heavier than mello?

Quote: I was practicing earlier today in my study hall, and one of the clarinets came into my practice room. She just walked over and started pushing the buttons. Then, of course, she pointed to the trigger and asked me what it was. Before I could get the words out, she proceeded to guess. "Is it like an octave key?" (Which is funny within itself. Clarinets don't ahve octave keys either) I said no. "So you can only play in one octave? ... Oh!" Clarinets have octave keys... It's the metal key right above the left thumb-hole. Can't describe it, but it's there. (not to mention they have enough keys to play an octave and a half without it) And I was wondering- I'm a freshman, just started playing melophone. In our marching band, we don't have any upperclassmen to help us, and the other guy absolutely cannot grasp how to play. I'm having a hard time helping him, but it's kind of my duty being squad leader. Does anyone have any advice?

brocla01 Actually in our band the bari and tenor sax's also play and march. And they are both heavier than the mello. And alto, is alto heavier than mello? But at least they have shoulder straps. It's heavy, but they don't have to hold it up... Hmm... I'm not sure if alto is heavier...

Alright so we got our closer at band camp this past week. And the mello's have this run at the end that goes from tuning F all the way up to a high C. Above the staff C. And guess who got it the 3rd time they played it. cool mrgreen And it's my first year on mello. I impressed the crap out of not only my section leader, my assitant director, my director, but my boyfriend (a baritone who's pretty tough on me playing wise...he's been playing for almost 9 years). Go me. blaugh

*Clears throat.*
Oh yeah, time for me to gloat.
My school is doing, the one, the only:
The Phantom Of The Opera
((I know, everyone hates us.))
Well, not only do we hold most of the melodies, but I also get a kick-a** solo for The Music of the Night. My friend Eric gets the trumpet solo for Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.
Oh yeah, it's soo awesome. ^^

I have survived my freshman year of band camp >< WHOOOO! I miss it already even though it was blistering hot outside. Sure we have practices still, but it's not the same. And... because of band camp... I have made friends with the entire tubs section. I know I may be a mello player, but my section leader sucks at beong a section leader and I'd rather not be around him. The guys are just perverted. The girls in my section are nice, but I just hang around the tubas and because of that... one of them asked me out to be his girlfriend. >< Too much quality time.
