Charlie came out of the cave, following them slowly as he held the radio, acting as if it might break at the slightest movement. "He's at the beach." Charlie called after them.
Sayid came to them, hearing them call for him. "What? Did someone answer you?" He asked.

Jack stepped to the front of the group.
"The transceiver will never work down here. We need to get to higher ground. Do you have a map of the island anywhere? We need to see if there are any paths marked out to some of the cliffs. If not, well, we're going to have to wing it," Jack explained.
He waited anxiously for Sayid's reply.

He waited anxiously for Sayid's reply.((viva RPing!)) Sayid grinned. He knew what Jack meant. "We don't need a map, I have it all up here." Sayid replied, pointing to his head. He then took off through the jungle. "We can get water at the caves and then be on our way! We will also need someone like . . .Sawyer . . .or . . ." He trailed off, not saying Locke, though that was someone he was thinking of. Charlie knew it. "How about we get Locke to come with us? He is the one who got us in this mess after all . . .I mean . . .with Boone and everything. And if it wasn't for him leading Boone to the plane, then the radio would have never been found."

Just hearing Locke's name mentioned had the word 'aneurysm' echoing in Jack's mind. He realized, however, that Charlie was right. Besides, Sayid obviously trusted Locke, and Jack trusted Sayid.
"Sayid, you get Locke, Charlie and I will get the water and we'll be on our way," Jack instructed.
He was vying for control, knowing that eventually it would be up to Sayid to lead the group once they were beyond Jack's expertise in the jungle.

Charlie said his goodbyes to Claire, letting her know that he'd be back soon. He didn't want her to worry. He then left with the others, hiking through the jungle. "So where to?" Locke asked Sayid. Sayid took a deep breath. He was furious with him at the moment, but he trusted him. "We're trying to get to a high point of the island . . .without getting killed." Locke grinned. "Then you've got just the guy for the job." "Yeah right . . ." Charlie smirked. Locke turned. "What was that?" He snapped.

((being that many people must feel like you've got multiple personalities or something... xd ))
Jack kept to himself as they hiked. However, the bickering was beginning to get annoying. He stopped hiking and looked between Locke, Charlie and Sayid.
"Gentlemen! Let's focus on what's at hand. We don't have time for all of this banter right now. We have to find a way off of this island. This may be our only hope, we can't waste the opportunity on mindless stichomythia," Jack snapped.
It had come out a little more harshly than he had intended. He did, however, succeed in getting the group quieted down. As they went on, seemingly endlessly, along flat ground, Jack began to wonder.
"Do you have any idea where we're going, John?" Jack inquired.
The group stopped as Locke rounded on Jack.

Locke looked back at Jack. "Yes. Boone and I hiked this place many times. I know where I'm going." He replied. He then went on, saying nothing more to Jack. He knew how Jack felt about him, that was his problem.
Charlie sighed heavily. "You know, my mum use to sing this song to me when we'd go on boring trips that took for hours and hours." He rpelied.
Sayid turned to him. "Yes? And what is it?"
Charlie grinned. "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream . . . .merely, merely, merely life is but a dream!"
Soon Sayid joined in and so did Locke, trying to pass away the time.

Jack almost felt the urge to laugh at the song. He figured that as long as it kept their spirits up there was no harm in it. Jack found himself joining in. After what seemed like hours, but was merely minutes longer, the group reached a steadily inclining path. Jack stopped the group momentarily. He swallowed his pride and addressed Locke.
"Where does this path lead to and are you sure it's safe?" Jack asked.
The cliff in the distance looked like their intended destination. The rocky summit that poked through the clouds looked foreboding and dangerous at best. The last thing Jack wanted on his hands was a first hand repeat of what happened to Boone...

Locke looked at the climb, then to Jack. "It's dangerous, but only to those who aren't sure of themselves. If you think you can get through this, you can. But don't come a long if you're going to need help. It's everyone for their own here. Boone and I had to learn that before."
Charlie frowned. "But I've got the radio . . ." He trailed off.
Locke smiled. "Don't worry. With you and that radio, we're going to make sure you're both safe." He replied. He then leaned towards Charlie. "The island wants you to speak into the radio . . ." He then began walking again. "come on people, shouldn't keep destiny waiting."

Jack only caught part of what Locke had whispered to Charlie, but it was enough to sorely tempt him to make a sarcastic comment. However, arguement was never productive, so Jack refrained. He sighed as he followed the others up the trail. It was going to be one hell of a climb, but Jack wasn't about to let Locke's "destiny" win out.
"Can we make it up there by nightfall and back to camp by noon tomorrow? I don't want to leave Boone and Shannon to their own devices for too long. If anything happens while we're gone..." Jack began.
He wasn't about to give away Shannon's secret and start Locke on another one of his "this island has a plan" rants...
