"They do," Lori agreed, "Pets are a great thing, and by the end of this you'll be able to pass for human, I'd bet. I'm sure Seamus will appreciate your company." He thought for a moment then, eyes rolling away.
"Well. It can be hard, but it's rewarding. They need exercise, they make big messes from time to time, but other than that it's just food, love, good training, like anything else."

"I expected that. All things need exercise. And I doubt any animal could make as big a mess as humans do. Oil spills and the like." Talk about a big mess: those lasted for months and made sea creatures sick, if they didn't die from it. Not to mention the litter they put into the ocean. "Should be easy enough to clean up after."
She moved to take her plate up to the station. "Do you like computer games? We should play one."

"Ah. Well..." In a way, she was right. Humans made grand-scale messes. A dog just got into the trash or ripped apart a bean bag chair. It was interesting that she should view the world on such a large scale by default. That was a facet many people lacked.
"Oh, I don't play video games much. Are you good to head back? Or do you want to grab some taffy?" He was well aware of a fae's penchant for sweet things.

"I'd never played until Dari showed me. It's more fun to pit them against each other though. Toby's competitive." She shook her head when he asked about taffy. "Nah, I'm good. Do you want some?" She asked. "You have to back to work, don't you? Do you know when Dari will be free?"

"He is," Lori agreed with a little laugh. Everyone in the office knew that.
"No, I'm good. Thanks for the offer, though. I have to go back to work, but I'm sure the boys wouldn't mind if you went to their office. Or you could stay and hang out with Seamus, whatever you want."

"I'll go see Seamus," she said. Maybe he'd come along with her to Toby's office: or better yet, lead her to it. "Maybe I'll see you before classes at breakfast again," she said, before heading towards the hall. She was ready to see Seamus again: and she wanted to see how the boys were doing.
She reached research and located the cat sidhe. "Hey Seamus," she greeted him, giving a him pet, "do you want to come to Toby's office with me?"

"Be my guest," Lori said and nodded, "Well, I'll see you tomorrow anyway." He went back to his desk while she looked for Seamus, and found him in one of his plethora of cat beds. He rolled over to show Maia his belly when she pet him, and at her question gave a curious trill.

"Do you know the way?" she asked, reaching to pet the cat sidhe behind his ears. "Do you think you can lead me there?" She took out a piece of meat she'd saved from lunch and offered it to him. "Not as good as fish," she said apologetically, "But its food. And once they let me go fishing I'll bring you home plenty of fish, all the time."

Seamus' tail waved in a leisurely manner, and squinted eyes popped open at the sudden appearance of deli meat. He leaned in and took it gladly, snapping up the free flap. Mm, yes. For fish, he would lead her to Toby. Of course Maia had no way of knowing why exactly the cat sidhe got up and started down the hall.

It seemed the lunch meat had done the trick. Seamus as walking down the hall. Maia made to follow him, smiling. "You could come to my apartment too, if you'd like, sometime. There's nothing in the kitchen yet, but there's going to be all sorts of things I wouldn't mind sharing."
She chatted to the cat sidhe until they had gotten to the office. "Want to stay and visit?" She invited him.

Lucky for Maia, the sidhe led Maia through the building to the office Toby and Dari shared. Toby looked down from his computer as the pair entered.
"Hey, Seamus! Fancy seeing you here." He turned his attention to Maia then. "Hey there. How did classes go?"
Dari raised a hand in greeting, but Seamus invited himself up into the alien's lap and then onto the bare area on the desk to lay down. Toby reached across to scratch his head.

"They were fine," Maia said, flashing Toby a smile. "Look, I found a cat sidhe. I got lost heading for the pool and I found him in research instead. I stayed there until classes." She glanced around the office. "I asked Seamus to bring me here. Is it alright if he visits?"
She looked for another chair. "When's your lunch? Lori and I already had ours."

"Oh, I bring food from home," Toby said, "I've already eaten. I'm glad classes went well." He smiled and nodded to Maia. "Sure, he can stay. So can you. Pull up a chair."
As he said it, Dari was pulling another rolling chair from the area behind him and rolling it to Maia. Seamus began to purr under Toby's hands.

Maia sat in the chair offered to her. She gave Dari a smile in thanks. "Seamus kept me company during most of the class," she said. "He seems to like me. Are you the two who saved him?"

"I was there, yeah. He sort of decided to rescue himself after all, though."
At times the partners were talkative, and at other times working diligently or making bizarre coded phone calls. Seamus made himself comfortable, switching between laps and desks and sometimes keyboards, demanding attention at every pass. Maia was introduced to a few more workers, all human, as they came to do business and in time the work day was over. Toby still had to go off toward home so Dari went with Maia to the pool and dried his hands before properly receiving a text.
I'm here
"Maia, Toby is waiting for us."
He was indeed, for back at the apartments they found the man with his jacket and tie hanging over an arm and a reusable grocery bag in one hand. He didn't normally go this far out of his way for new clients, but this was his only case at the moment. Maia was frightened and upset, as she reasonably should be, and his partner had taken a bit of a shine to her. Why not offer some help? He greeted them with a smile and a severely hampered wave and Dari pulled open his apartment door.
"Hello again," Toby said to Maia. Dari pulled the door open and held it for the others to enter.
