Miyuki laughed at that, it was clearly all in good fun.
"You'll have to tell me stories sometime," she told Cael.
After all, she heard a few things about him, it was only fair she hear a few things about her teacher.

Cael grinned. "You bet. But first - our patient."
Earendil chuckled and pulled himself back to sit up taller for them. "Yes. Me. But you only get to check me out if you can promise I'll have some time with my wife afterwards."
"You think we would argue with that?" Cael chuckled, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Trust me, we're anxious to get on with our life, too. So. One thing at a time. Kyrie said yesterday that your eyesight seemed to be getting better?"
Earendil nodded. "It's not foggy, anyways," he offered. "Though it's still not ... not fully clear."
Cael nodded slowly, his expression growing serious. "Can you tell me how far you can see clearly?"
Earendil looked around. He could see the children clearly, he could see Lin clearly ... the chair halfway across the room ...
"The chair," he said, nodding at it. "But not the doorway to the study."
Cael nodded again. "And how does that compare to yesterday?"
Earendil snorted. "Yesterday I could hardly see anyone when they were standing next to me."

So he had lost his far sight, Lin thought, she was somewhat familiar with the terms. Despite the fact her father did not need his glasses, Grandmother Mi and Grandfather Daemon did.
"Well that's good right?" Miyuki pipped up to her father.
She understood that he was a bit, put off but his hindered sight and hearing.

"Well it means there's improvement," Lancaeriel told Miyuki with a soft smile. "And we will have to keep monitoring him to see if it continues to improve, or if it stays the way it is now."
"What about your hearing?" Cael asked Earendil.
Earendil shrugged. "I don't know how loudly people are talking. I heard you knock, that's something I didn't hear yesterday."
"Slight improvement there, then," Cael mused softly. "Here, lean towards me."
Earendil did as he was requested. Cael turned Earendil's head to one side and looked at his ear, then the other side, and looked at his other ear.
"There's some bruising," he murmured. "That's probably what's causing it ... it'll probably take a week, maybe a week and a half to go away ... we should keep an eye on that and see if your hearing gets better as the bruising goes away."

That was hopeful at least, Lin nodded at Cael's comment.
"That is good to know," she admitted.
While they can always adapt, it would be nice if one of Earendil's senses did improve back to near perfect working order.

Earendil was relieved by Cael's diagnosis, and he relaxed slightly.
"Did you want to check anything else?" he asked, hoping the answer would be no.
He was out of luck on that score.
"Are you strong enough to stand?" Cael asked, sitting back again. "I saw when I came in that you had to pull yourself into a sitting position. You still very weak?"
Earendil wasn't sure. He had a feeling he wouldn't be able to stand, and if he could he definitely wouldn't be able to walk.

"Earendil just woke up," Lin told Cael, "So there hasn't been a chance to assess his strength."
In fact none of them had eaten yet, now that she thought about it.

"Ah, I see," Cael nodded. "Well, care to give it a try? It would be simple to have your meals brought here but you're going to get sick of this room very quickly, not to mention the more you move around, the quicker you'll heal, I'm sure."
Earendil nodded. "I can give it a try." He glanced at Lin. "Care to help me? Just in case?"

"Sure," Lin nodded in agreement as she made her way over to him.
She wasn't quite sure how much help he would need, compared to yesterday.
"If you need help, just say," she told him once she was by his side.

"Will do," Earendil agreed as he shifted over to the edge of the bed. He pulled back the blanket and put his legs over the side of the bed. He hesitated a moment, staring at the floor apprehensively, and then he slid forward and touched his feet to the floor.
"Here goes," he murmured, wincing as he tried to stand. He pushed against the bed, and slowly rose to his feet. He had just managed to stand up straight when there was another knock at the door.

"Huh... that might be Kyrie," Lin commented, "Miyuki, can you go get that?"
She stayed close to Earendil, in case he suddenly became unsteady.
Miyuki hopped off the bed and made a beeline for the door. Her tails waving back and forth as she walked. Opening the door, she peeked out to see who it would be.

It was indeed Kyrie, and she had Uruloki sitting on her shoulder, looking comfortable.
"Good morning," Kyrie greeted Miyuki with a smile. "I think I'm late. Lancaeriel and Caelamondorion are here?"
Earendil moved to take a step forward, but he shook unsteadily and reached out to put one hand on Lin's shoulder to balance himself.

"Morning, and yea, they're already here," she moved aside to let Kyrie in.
Near the bed, Lin stood, letting Earendil use her for support. Lin looked up at him to see how he was feeling at the moment.
"How do you feel?" she asked.

Kyrie smiled at Miyuki. "Thanks," she murmured, stepping into the room.
Earendil took a deep breath, fully aware of all the eyes on him - his wife, his children, and now three people who were all intent on examining him.
"Like a child," he muttered. His muscles tensed as he tried to take another step, and, still holding Lin's shoulder, he shuffled forward.

Lin chuckled at this, "Everyone is just worried for you. You know that."
Everyone cared about his well being, especially her and the children. Though she could imagine it was a bit frustrating to be stared at like this.
