Ginelle nodded. She distinctly remembered her mother tell her about the purple boils on the skin. It took a little time for the potion to work, because he had waited to take the potion so he could get the doxy back in the cage. He brought it home because he needed it for some sort of presentation at work in front of the auror board. He decided that it wasn't worth it after all, and sent it back. "They can fly really fast I assume?" Ginelle was really curious about this creature after learning about them with her mother.

Olli narrowed her eyes. She hadn't meant what she said at the expense of Adaleide, it was a fact! "Until she is nice to me personally I will treat her with the same respect she treats me," she said quietly, before realizing how mean that made her sound. Oh well.

Ginelle remembered all the things her mother taught her. Eat your vegetables, be slow to judge, treat others the way you want to be treated... There was a long list, because her mother was always very nice to her. She was a Psychiatrist, so she always had good advice for everything. "If Adaleide were ever to be nice, you would have to be nice to her first. You're not in Slytherin... I kind of... expected better of you... " Ginelle didn't look at Olli. She wasn't trying to be rude or argumentative, but she was never one to try to deliberately be rude to someone.

"Believe me, I've tried..." she said slowly, before realizing Ginny was right. She had to stop making up false defenses for herself and accept that what she had said was not nice to Adaleide. "Sorry," she whispered quietly.

"You're not Adaleide," Ginelle said. She turned to face Olli. She thought about another thing that her mother told her, and it made her smile pretty big. "You're much, much better than her. So don't make yourself like her to hurt her. You know you are better than her on the inside." This reminded Ginelle of the time she was picked on at school. It was three years ago when Ginelle was bringing up magic to her friends again. One girl threw a book at her, and then poured water on her head. She said 'You're not a witch. Witches would melt, idiot.' The kids were so cruel to her, even at that young age. It made her feel bad about herself, but nonetheless, her mother told her differently. She wasn't like them - She was better than them.

Olli nodded, her confidence slowly swelling. Of course she wasn't going to let it go to her head, but it was nice to hear someone say something like that to her. She smiled, and said, "Thanks." She probably could have put that information to great use at her old school, where she was less than accepted.

Ginelle nodded. Olli wasn't a bad person, so she deserved to know that.

Ginelle continued to study the doxy up close. Memories of her father were coming back, making her smile more and more. She remembered only little bits and pieces of her dad, and most of it was told to her by her mother, and her mind made up the rest. But the doxy thing, she definitely could remember bits and pieces of it.

'Yes, doxies fly incredibly quickly, especially considering their size,' Kalle said with a quick nod to the cage floating beside her. 'What would you like to know about the doxy? I shall answer all questions and any additional information necessary I will add to a small lesson,' Kalle explained. She looked forward to finding out what mattered to her students about the creatures they learned of.

Eriena Emm – Gryffindor – 5th year

"GAH!" Eriena had figured an actual Doxy would be presented in class, but she hadn't expected Professor Kalle to show it so soon, and so she jumped the moment the blanket swept off the cage. Inside was a nasty little blue thing that bared its teeth and laughed impishly. She shuddered when she looked into its beady black eyes and pulled her sleeves over her arms, remembering their sharp little teeth.

"So..." she spoke up at Professor Kalle's mention of questions. She was still looking warily at the Doxy, as if one glance away would unleash it from its cage. "If there's a nest of them in your backyard or something... How do you get rid of them?"

Amelia Frances

User ImageAmelia frowned. In comforting Olli for her insult, Ginny had insulted Adaleide herself! Such logic never fit well with her. She believed--no, knew that Adaleide was a good person, because she'd seen it during Aludra's delivery...well, the twin's delivery...anyway...she'd seen it. But two people can be good at the same time, it wasn't always a competition. Adaleide was just bad at that time, that's all. She ignored the good part inside of her usually but that didn't change that she was good inside. Right? Either way, since Olli was happy, Amelia wasn't going to say anything. She just nodded encouragingly to her friend, then looked back to the Doxy. Now with the knowledge that their bite actually was toxic, there was no way Amelia was getting near the thing. It just seethed animosity.

Ginelle looked at the professor. She actually had very many questions about the doxy, so she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. Ginelle said "Professor, what does a doxy eat?"She asked as she tapped the cage. The doxy seemed to spit at her, so she took her hand down from the cage and just stared at it up close. She liked the doxy for some reason. It brought her closer to her father in her mind.

User ImageShaking her head, Amelia knew she had to focus. Pulling out a different colored pen, purple this time, she noted its name and its poisonous bite. Seeing it spit, she raised her hand asking warily, "Is it their saliva that's toxic or do they actually have to bite you, breaking the skin?" She'd seen the Komodo Dragons' whose saliva itself dissolved flesh within days. This was definitely nothing like those scary lizards, but the common trait could still be there. She tried tuning out the doxy, unconsciously brushing against Olli to help, pretending it was merely a picture in a book, not a caged creature, possibly smart enough to free itself.

Kalle nodded at each question asked, lining up the answers in her mind. 'To answer Eriena's question, there are various charms and spells you can use to berid your home of doxies, though it must be made before the eggs hatch as doxies typically lay 500 at a time. Secondly, doxies eat various bugs and almost any living thing smaller than them. And finally, a doxy's saliva is toxic, though in order for it to cause any harm to you it must enter the bloodstream, whether through ingestion or open sores,' she explained, hoping she had answered the questions thoroughly enough they were understood.

Amelia Frances

User ImageAmelia understood the answers, except the first one clearly, raising her hand once more she hoped for clarification, "So there's no way to defend yourself from an adult doxy?" She didn't sound happy about that, though she reminded herself, picture in a book. That's all she looked at. Questions were starting to form in her head quickly so she asked another before lowering her hand, "Do they lay so many because very few of them survive? Or do most of them make it to adulthood?" She had more questions, but two seemed enough.

Kalle thought back for a moment before realizing how the first answer could have caused some confusion. 'There is a way to get rid of adult doxies, it is the same as with the eggs. I just find it easier to get rid of eggs than the doxies themselves, as eggs will not bite, scratch or spit. Most of the doxy's eggs survive, though of course not all of them may live a full life,' she said calmly, with a sort of sad note in her voice at the last sentence. No matter how insignificant it seemed, she did not like the thought of living creatures dying, without even the chance to live.
