Haldia smiled and waved back at the two, a little worried about Miyu's reaction. She opened her mouth to reply in the Ancient Tongue, but she checked herself. Aragost was no longer using it, and these two weren't ... they probably didn't know it, just as Lin and Earendil and Leyenda had had to learn it when they had first come to Nauros.

She decided that she would make an attempt at speaking their language, hard though it was for her.

"Goot is, meet," she said slowly, feeling her face growing warm. She knew she hadn't gotten it right, but at least she had tried, right?

Aragost chuckled softly and patted Miyu gently on the head. "Haldia is very nice, I'm sure once you get to know her you two can be great friends," he told her softly.

Haldia looked relieved at Toshiro's words, and she spoke quickly in her native tongue.

Aragost smiled down at Miyu. "She says that you have beautiful wings," he told her softly. "Both of you," he added, 'looking' at Toshiro as well. "And to Miyu, she adds, you do not have to worry about her. She is newer to this place than you are, and probably has more to worry about. Though she would also like to be your friend."

Haldia smiled brightly and nodded, then patted the bed beside her, inviting Miyu to sit with her (since Aragost had taken the only chair).

Haldia smiled at Miyu, then giggled and said something to Aragost.

Aragost chuckled and sat down again. "She says that she isn't used to people not speaking her language anymore. Lin learned it quite quickly when she started spending time with the Night Elves, and since then she has gotten used to finding people who speak her language."

Haldia spoke again, and Aragost smiled.

"She is trying to learn your language," he told Miyu softly, "but she finds it difficult to speak, though she is understanding more of it each day, to hear it."

Haldia's face grew warm again and she shrugged. "I ... trry," she said, rolling her 'r' strongly, "es nich ... no ..." She chewed on the inside of her cheek for a moment, trying to think of the word, but for the life of her, she couldn't.

"Doesn't work," Aragost suggested patiently, looking as though this were any regular conversation.

Haldia nodded, grateful for his aid. "Nicht worrek," she repeated, adding a second syllable to 'work'.

Haldia blinked at Miyu, uncertain as to the meaning of those two new words. If she had heard them before, that would be one thing, but she hadn't, not either of them - at least, not in that context. 'Me' was something she could understand, but somehow it just didn't seem to fit in there, not the way Miyu was using it. It had to be a different word ...

"En-engelsh?" she repeated, her brow furrowed deeply. "Mi?"

Haldia still looked confused until Aragost explained it to her in her own language, and then she smiled and patted Miyu gently on the head.

"Is goot ... trry," she smiled encouragingly to the girl. "Goot ... talek ... yeven ef s...scarret hof ... hof pe...perrsonne."

She had seen how nervous she had made Miyu when she had first come in, and she thought it was brave of the girl to sit next to her, despite her fear.

Haldia nodded. "Is hokey," she assured Miyu gently. "I ... eas ... easy ..." She couldn't quite get the word, even though Miyu had just used it. "An...angurr ... nicht nhao, bu ... but l...lhong time 'go. Easy. But can ... can ch...ch... make diffairrent when trry."

It was one of the last lessons she had learned on her island home. It was strange, but she wasn't in as much of a hurry as she had been to return there, either. She was getting used to this land. She could stand to stay a while, she thought. After all, what was there back on Nauros for her? Nothing new, nothing exciting. But out here there was much more for her to see, to learn.

Haldia smiled at Miyu. "Goot," she repeated softly. "Es goot." And she leaned back against the wall, not really sure what else to say.

Aragost shifted in his chair. "So tell me, Miyu," he said warmly. "How have you been? How are things in your world?"
