If he was honest, the new, shrieky blue was incredibly loud and slightly worrisome, especially for the girls it seemed to have leapt on, but the little brown was adorable -- both of them were, really. He hadn't thought dragons could be so cute, especially since they got so massive so quickly... Selachii held still, watching them amble about with an eager smile. For what felt like the millionth time tonight he felt his heart speed up a bit...

There were advantages to being in the front row of Candidates. One was that Firyal could see the eggs hatching with an uninterrupted view. However there were definite disadvantages, too, Firyal learned as the blue came barrelling toward the females with abandon. Namely that it's very hard to step out of the way because all directions except forward are blocked by someone else and forward was the direction the charging dragonet was coming from. Still, she threw herself backward with sufficient speed and force that she avoided being knocked into by the blue, though she did succeed in bumping awkwardly into the girls nearest her.

"Sorry," she murmured as she quickly regained her footing in the blue dragon's wake. They would understand, she was sure, but an apology was still owed.

He was certainly a vocal little creature. And so emotive in his vocalizations. Her heart went out to him as he sought fruitlessly for his bondmate. She wished there was something she could do, but the only person who could ease his way was his bondmate, whomever that ended up being. She didn't want to throw herself into his path to see if she was the one he was looking for. One mauling was plenty, though the spirit of this one would probably be different. It wouldn't make it any more enjoyable. It wouldn't be enjoyable at all, actually, she was quite sure.

Almost instinctively she sent her thoughts toward the blue as though he were one of her firelizards, though she doubted he would sense or respond to them. Firelizards deal best in emotional concepts, and she imagined a very young dragon would be similar, and so she tried to send him reassuring, soothing thoughts. But, of course, that could only meet with limited success, if any. She didn't expect it to have much of an effect.

At the piercing shrieks, Arioth whipped her head around to the sands, eyes whirling an agitated orange as she stared at her blue clutchmate. Something is wrong, Mine. He is lost. Something is not right. She didn't seem to notice that she had repeated herself, so intent was her yellow-tinged stare. She did not understand why her clutchmate was screaming so, but she could see that something was Not Okay.

Lost...fists clenching, Rinfala also looked to the Sands, where the little blue wandered. Blast the shell and sear the skin, but this was what she'd been afraid of, the reason for her rage at Kyllae. If the blue went between and caused Arioth to grieve for a fallen brother before her wings had even dried...Kyllae would pay. She would make sure of it. "I hope it will be okay, Arioth."

She couldn't find it in herself to find reassurances yet.

Xanthoth watched as his new brother barreled into the candidates. At first, the action seemed to differ little from what the gold had done earlier, among others, but he felt something still just wasn't right. Under normal circumstances, he'd have been more disapproving of a male starting to trampling over the young ladies present, newborn or not. These were not normal--at least, he didn't think so. Though he stopped to examine those struck by his sibling, the majority of his attention for perhaps the only time in his life was mostly on another of his gender as opposed to the fairer sex.

The concern of the recent Thoroughbred hatching was not one they shared. For one, he had no desire to leave. On the contrary, he appeared to determined to follow his sibling, as if watching over him. The bronze was mindful to do this at a good distance; not too far, but not so close he may hinder his ability to find a partner. Xanthoth had already found His. Therefore, he had no need to worry about such things.

Speaking of, B'lin had been awakened by all the commotion, jumping to his feet and seeking out his own dragon with his eyes alone. "Xanthoth?!"

Once again, the bronze was especially careful not to bump too hard into anything female, but this time, it wasn't quite as careful as before. Something was wrong. Something was wrong with his brother.

Yours is fine, B'lin. But something is still very wrong.

The blue was a surprise to Weiwin, whom readily assumed it would be another brown or maybe a bronze hidden within that large egg. The shrieking ripped her focus from the smaller, silent eggs she had been eyeing. Sure, everyone felt sorry for the little blue as he tore his way through the female Candidates, however, Weiwin might be the only one who didn’t. The creature was already small, almost premature looking – he didn’t need to be bathed in pity. Her features were set in stern concentration as she watched the creature, hoping it wasn’t mad from being roughed when it was still developing. He needed to just calm his senses for a second, find his lifemate and get some food in his gut.

Santhea's eyes widened as the small blue burst out of the big egg. She watched him, slightly dazed, as he staggered out, and jumped a bit when he shrieked. The way he moved, it didn't seem right. And the big egg for a blue? Something was going on.

Santhea tensed further as the crying blue came closer. The poor thing sounded terrified! And he just barrelled forward.. Santhea was shocked by the pitiful sound he made - and noticed his intention just too late.
The blue rammed into her and the girl beside her - though she heard others moving away. Santhea was falling awkwardly backwards, near the heels of Firyal, but hurting her wrist when she hit the sands. Her wrist twisted, but didn't crack, though Santhea didn't notice. It had helped that Santhea was already kneeling.
"Gah!" she cried, when she fell, her eyes big. She shook her head hurriedly, and tried to look up, to see if the other candidates were okay, if the blue was unharmed. Calm, little blue, please! She tried to send the thought to the wailing hatchling, along with her only half-successful feelings of calmness, peace and warmth. She groaned lightly, and held her arm to her chest as she sat up.

At this distance, he was close enough to be seen fairly visibly. And the shriek was not normal. Dragons weren't supposed to make that sound on hatching.

It showed in how the brown acted, and how all the candidates around her shifted with unease. Uuni followed suit, and the brown was all but ignored to watch the crying creature.

It had been a long time since she'd heard of a dragon going between, but there was that dread that he would resting in her throat. If His was not here, however, there would be absolutely nothing anyone could do.

Feeling uncomfortable with the closeness, Uuni stepped away from Kess and slightly away from the blue. She saw the bronze out of the corner of her eye and bit her lip before taking yet another step back to let him pass should he come back in that direction.

She hated this feeling of being completely out of control, but looking at this dragon spoke only of things that she could do nothing about. It would be so easy to leave the sands now and never look back, but of course, hope made her stay and wait for everything to tide over.

Mine? What is happening? You’re distressed! Did something happen to Ialluth’s? Ohh… The Green’s voice trailed off, but her concern grew even stronger as she got a better sense of what was going on. Outside of the Hatching Cavern, she couldn’t help but let out a pathetic little keen of distress at the image of the Blue wandering around helplessly. Ceylith’s eyes whirled rapidly into a concerned yellow as she shook her head.

He’ll… be alright, won’t he, Ialluth? she asked pathetically, looking towards the older Green for support and comfort. Even worse, C’ren was concerned… Ceylith didn’t like it when Hers worried so much. It simply couldn’t be good for his health.

~.~
Even Redhath couldn’t hold back his worry at that awful noise. He cringed away at the other Blue’s terrible keens and curled up a little. Mine! he said in a cross between a plaintive moan and a command. Make him stop! I do not like this, it is sad! And I don’t want to be sad! Redhath shoved his head into M’al’s chest, trying to hide in the robes.

M’al put a stop to that quickly, scratching the dragonet’s eyeridges. “It’ll be ok, Redhath. I… I’m sure he’s just afraid. It’ll be alright, once he finds His…” shards, he hoped the Blue would find someone. He had heard stories before, of dragonets going between because they couldn’t find theirs or because something was just plain wrong with them, but…

But he hoped he’d never have to see it. “It’ll be ok, Redhath,” he said soothingly again, although he couldn’t tell who he was trying to convince of this.
~.~

Xeran was just confused. None of the other dragonets had made that sort of cry. It was like… well, he’d never heard a sound like that before. It went straight to the heart, a pure emotion in a sonic form. Even the raging dragonets from earlier hadn’t created such a pathetic noise, like a last cry before darkness.

“Vera, sweetheart. It’ll be ok. Remember, most of the other dragonets were a little crazy before finding their bonded. This one will turn out alright.” His father instincts screamed at him to get his little girl out of there, before she saw something truly traumatic. But Vera was a grown woman now, as much as he hated to admit it. She wanted to be here. She had made her choice.

Ollen was not fast enough to dodge away from the rampaging blue and exhaled slowly as he missed her, the tall candidate's eyes wide she watched him in shock. Things were going so smoothly! She seethed hoping that dimglow Kyllae was watching what she caused. Was she even allowed in the stands to watch this mayhem? Ollen hopped so, hopped the girl felt like charred thread after all of this.

Ollen groaned and resisted the urge to bolt away from the scared and raging Hatchling. Her mantra came to mind again and she mumbled it allowed, "stay calm, happy thoughts, don't touch a dragon that is not yours, happy thoughts."

The screeching blue... There was something about his cries that struck Zafir, hard. Instinctively, he knew it was terror. He'd heard canines make a similar sound during squalls, and though his earlier questions had gone unanswered, the weaver suspected that the newest hatchling's terror was intimately related to whatever mysterious events Raedue had vaguely referenced.

He had heard, on occasion, people saying they might try to think good thoughts towards the newly hatched. Zafir wasn't sure what good that could do, could dragons even hear the minds of people other than their riders? he didn't know.

But he knew they could hear sounds, and so he whispered- though it was undoubtedly too quiet for the little blue to hear- comforting nothings. "You'll be okay, little one. It'll all be alright. You'll find yours, and you'll be happy... Oh please, little baby-blue, be happy..."

Just as Kallista settled, a blue broke through. A blue that didn't seem right as he stumbled about... Suddenly Astarteth was awake and her eyes were red. Hissing angrily, she tried to turn and look at hers.
Something is not right. He is not happy. The little one is distressed! The green extended her wings and offered a warble of support.

Kallista gritted her teeth and clenched her fists. This was not good. If that little one went between, Faven would have Kyllae tossed from a dragon or worse. Her thoughts immediately turned to T'ka and at last, the green rider started searching for her room mate. "Astarteth? Where is Haanyath?"
`````````````
Jessan gasped at the shriek the blue issued shortly after it hatched. Oh no, what was wrong with the little one. He winced as several Candidates went down or diving. Not that he blamed them considered the first few that had come out of their eggs.
"Oh little one. Please, please be okay!"
```````````````````
Jamusyn literally jumped in his seat as the blue dragon broke free. The keen that issued from it's little mouth was heart breaking. It really was, like a rock going the wrong way against a piece of glass. It hurt... Made his ears and his heart hurt.

"What's wrong? There has to be something wrong for him to make that noise! Can anyone help him?"

His cousin shook his head. This was not the first Hatching he had attended in all his years. And he knew, sometimes the person was just not there for the dragon. It would be a sad sight and leave a bad stain on this Hatching if the little one died.

Kess was not in the mood to be struck again by a rampaging dragonet. It's screech had immediately put the blonde on edge and she swallowed hard as it barrelled to its feet, moving hurridly to the side. Not to soon, either, as it knocked over several female candidates, causing unease and fear.

Grimacing, she had to wonder if it would even respond to sound. Why so frenzied? Had it not developed fully? Was it missing its bond? Kess was unable to stop the sypathetic croon from her throat, her own chest aching at the noises the destructive blue was making.

It was a bad time for a dangerous dragonet. The Candidates were exhausted and their nerves already raw.

Veyes had been hoping hard that the brown might notice him. He really wanted this chance to finally come his way but then the other egg shattered and an upset blue raced to the crowds crying in almost a heartbroken manner. Shards, Veyes wanted to race over and help that young one; stop its pain.

He hoped that the girls on the other side that the blue had ran into would somehow give it the help it needed. But something wasn't right. He knew this just by the way it was acting. It worried Veyes and he felt helpless yet again. Uncertain what he should do...if he could do anything about it. He looked over at the brown who was making his way to the boys. It seemed nervous too by the blue's actions...emotions. He wanted to change things...why couldn't he change things? There should have been a touching...these things shouldn't have been happening!

....Something isn't right.

Toronth's head snapped up, away from the meat W'in was tossing gently down his gullet, and he faced the other blue, eyes whirling yellow. A low croon escaped the blue, and he shifted uneasily, weaving his head from side to side and continuing to emanate a low noise that made W'in distinctly uncomfortable...or perhaps he was hearing it only in his head. He still wasn't sure of the boundaries.

"Toronth?"

My clutchbrother, Mine. Something is wrong.

Lanamine! The little Blue! What is he doing? What's wrong?

A dragonhealer on the Sands, even an Apprentice, didn't need the voice of her dragon to know that something was up. La was pushing her way through the crowd already, hanging back far enough that she wouldn't intrude on the Blue if he didn't need her assistance. She didn't know what she would do, but she would be there if he needed her.

Lanamine! Do something!

I can't, Isonth! You know Hatching rules! Your kind can't be touched until they find Theirs. You know this!

LANAMINE!

Isonth's frustrated bugle was muted, but a wash of frustration and helplessness flooded Lanakirene's mind as the empathic green focused on the panicking dragonet's energy, trying to understand what was happening even as the small creature shrieked. Isonth knew that La had no jurisdiction over what might (oh, Faranth, no) occur next, but she had to insist that Hers do something. She had to.

...Lanamine? Please?

I...I can't.

Annelie didn't have to verbalize anything to yansanth -- the queen already knew, and her heartache was felt in full force by the young woman as she stood up from her place in the stands to see as much as she could of the screaming dragonet.

Yansanth, it'll be okay... It'll be okay...

Annelie, help it! He's lost, he's scared -- there's something wrong! Help!

But all Annelie could do was watch from where she stood, wide-eyed and struck with pity and sorrow, kept in her place by the horrid truth. There's nothing I can do ... nothing we can do. He's on his own...

----

The screams. The horrible and tear-jerking screams. Both Hwinth and Ferris turned at the same time, and both dropped the tasks they had been attending too and pieces of meat fell to the floor.

Ferrismine... he's...something's wrong. Hwinth looked on at her scared, Blue brother and her whole body ached for him, something that Ferris couldn't help but feel as well. With lowered wings, eyes swirling with yellow and even gray, the little green moved to creep back to the sands, but she was stopped.

"Hwinth... you can't. You have to stay here."

But this wasn't supposed to happen...everyone else was happy. It was good... it was the plan...
