Ciprianus and Schuyler nodded, parting ways. She went east, he the opposite. They moved silent, undetectable. Not even the birds stirred from their perches as they darted among the foliage. She felt open without him by her side, but the experiment made it necessary for them to split apart. I may have two eyes, Ciprianus had told her through his thoughts, but they're attached to a single head.

She sighed, missing the big brute already. As she ran, she would grab unsuspecting woodland creatures, watching their terror with a sadistic delight. But she didn't kill any. It was too simple when she wanted to be invisible. They were stupid animals, brains smaller than her hand, and deserved a fair chance to live or die. She would just release them in a safe location and watch them observe that they weren't dead with a stupefied sort of relief.

Schuyler located her target. She squirreled up a tree nearby, watching him take a deer down. Babysitting wasn't exactly what she had had in mind when she had first suggested a hunting contest, but Ciprianus was right. They weren't loyal to her. And if they were, she would have been concerned for their mental well-being. Silently, she watched from the tree, ready to moe if need be.

----------

Ciprianus moved like a shadow, impossible to detect even to the keenest of eyes. Hell, he had had the longest time to practice the art of avoiding detection. He'd better be pretty damn good at it. He wedged himself between two large trees, peering out at his own target. It wasn't looking too good. Ciprianus mused if he should just act now. Stop the chase before it even happened. He grinned, settling back down. No, the chase was the best part.

((whew that was a long one smile ))

Edward smelled her scent almost immediately. he didnt look for her, he just knew she was within earshot. "you dont have to babysit me you know. i said i would come back and i meant it. besides, i feel confident that your friend has a better nose than i do, and could hunt me down even if i were to escape. my loyalty comes from the fact that i would rather be almost anywhere besides that cage. im a little claustrophobic, so small enclosed spaces dont really do good with me for an extended period of time, heh."

She almost laughed at her own stupidity. She had taken every sense into account except for smell. Of course, wolves have keen senses of smell. Schuyler didn't feel like standing up just yet, so she lazily called, "True, true. But maybe I put less faith in your ability to escape then you think. Do you smell my demon friend? Didn't think so. He's miles away, unable to aid me if I needed it this instant. Doesn't that just make you want to spring away from weak, little old me?" This time, Schuyler did laugh.

She hopped down from the tree, more excited now, and examined Edward's kill. "Very nice," she said, nodding her head seriously. "You'll probably be the winner. My partner is off ensuring that dragon-boy doesn't fly away. It leaves me with what feeble skills are bestowed upon us humans." She grinned. "And maybe a few skills that I've gained along the way."

the sound of a gunshot exploded nearby, and its matching bullet hit Edward in the back on the left side, near his heart. it missed his heart by three hairs, but pierced his left lung. in the few moments before he blacked out from the pain, he said with his last breath, "maybe one of those skills could be-" blood came out of the corner of his mouth."-saving me and killing those hunters that i forgot about. it hurts so bad--" he blacked out, falling forward. cheers could be heard coming from the hunters who believed they had killed a monster.

Damien walked into a forest claering an sighed,ok...mabey just one kill, Damien thought seeing a small rabbit hop around a tree not to far away. Damien's claws grew longer for a seocnd as he lept at the rabbit killing it with his claws. Damien picked up the dead rabbit and engulfed it in flames but suddenly the flames stopped. The rabbit was perfectly cooked. Damien's head formed a dragon's one as he threw the rabbit into his mouth and swallowed. Damien's head slwoly turned into his human on and the same for his hands. Damien sighed,I'm still hungry..he said in his head but shook his head, this is now the perfect chance to get away...Dmaien thought feleing some of his energy come back as he quickly digested the rabbit. For some reason Damien felt like he was being watched...he shrugged off the thought. Dmaien jumped up and grabbed a low hanging tree branch and pulled himself up and the same with the others until he got to the top of the tree,I'm not completly healed yet, so I can't fly any higher then I start off at...so I can only fly right above the trees...Damien thought. in a burst of flames a set on wings appered on Damien's back and he jumped he started to flap them and he was soon flying, but just an inch above the trees. Damien picked up speed quickly and kept flying.

((it's okay everyone, you can relax. here i come to save the day. *switches to superhero costume* up up and away!))

Schuyler caught him and laid him down gently, her glare shifting to the hunters. Her eyes glazed over in pure hatred, her hands shaking with rage. It was hard for her to grab her blade out of its sheath and hold it steady before her. "Killing them won't be the problem," she growled through clenched teeth. "Keeping them alive long enough to make them suffer... there's the problem."

The cheers from the hunters began to fade as they saw Schuyler advancing, despite her stature, looking very menacing. Perhaps it was the dead look in her eyes. "That was mine!" she roared, watching them jump back with fear with a sense of satisfaction. She had them on edge; they wre panicky, obviously not used to fighting girls. But there was no sympathy for them. They had mortally damaged something that was hers. Blood was the price.

----------------------

Ciprianus's grin widened. The dragon was such a fool. Did he really suspect Schuyler was stupid enough to leave him alone without some sort of surveillance? Not that it mattered to him, but Ciprianus questioned whether or not the chase would be any fun. After all, if the dragon wasn't thinking on his feet now, he would probably be even less of a challenge during the chaos of a fight.

He loped after the dragon, keeping up with his pace. Worried that he might ascend--and Ciprianus had no desire to change foms (such a pain-staking process)--, Ciprianus leapt into a tree, hopping from branch to branch, quickly making his way to the treetops. He didn't wish to remain hidden, so he let a small howl escape his mouth, alerting the dragon to his presence.

------------------------

By the time she was done mutilating the corpses, there wasn't much left of them. It had only taken a minute or so, but parts were missing and blood painted the trees around her and the grass carpet. Remembering that Edward was wounded, she stole back over to him, feeling some semblance of other emotions besides hatred creep back into her.

Mechanically, she examined the bullet wound, and realized that she couldn't do much about it. If the lung was punctured, then there was a good chance of infection, which ultimately led to pneumonia. Of course, that's if he didn't bleed to death first. The only person that could help him--and would agree to do so without having to be at knife-point--was Ciprianus. The inconvenient thing was that Schuyler wasn't exactly sure where the demon had gotten off to. He was far enough away that their mental link was weak, communication impossible.

Schuyler hefted Edwards body up. The only way she could get Ciprianus in time was getting close enough to make contact and tell him what was wrong. Easier said than done. She darted off into the brush, heading west, and hopefull to where Ciprianus was.

((whew, another long one!!))

Damien looked down to see something following him but he couldn't make out what it was. Damien tried to go fast but he couldn't speed up. Damien found himself getting tired,Damn I have less energy than I though, he thought as he knew he started to slow down a little. Damien moaned just wanting to get away.

Edward was aware of what was happening, but he kept his eyes closed. there were tears streaming from his closed eyes. he was focused on one thing, the only thing that mattered at the moment. trying to breathe. the air in his left lung was already used and he couldnt really exhale it because of the hole, but he was trying his hardest to stay alive.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:24 pm

CIPRIANUS! she screamed, listening for any inkling of a response. But the wolf-demon was still too far away. Edward's weight began to grow immensely in her arms, and she could feel herself slowing, even though she was pushing herself as hard as she could.

"This wasn't what I had planned!" she yelled at no one in particular. "I didn't want one of them to die! Don't let him die..." Schuyler was surprised at how pathetic she was being. It wasn't like her to get this torn up over something so insignificant. But looking at the blood running down his body, she felt her throat close up. She coughed to breath again, shocked to find it was a sob. As quickly as she could brush them away, more tears fell down her face.

"I will not be pathetic!" she declared to herself, replacing the melancholy with anger and determination. With new ferocity, she started again at top speed, fixated on finding her friend.

-----------------

So close, Ciprianus thought. He bounded again, measuring the distance between himself and the dragon, and landed lightly on the next tree branch. On his next step, he decided, he would leap onto the dragon's back, the distance so small he would cover it easily. Just as he was preparing to spring, Ciprianus heard the faint manic murmurings of a panicked and confused mind. He redirected his spring towards the ground, glaring at his target one last time.

It could wait. Apparently, Schuyler needed his help.

------------------

Schuyler came to abrupt halt, her breathing hard and fast. Ciprianus had gotten the message and assured her that he was on his way. Now, Edward had a chance. She carefully laid him down, grabbed her canteen from around her shoulder, and poured some on his head. "At least I can try to prevent shock," she said grimly, trying to not lose herself again.

Momentarily, a white blur entered the clearing that Schuyler had selected to stop in. The blur slowed and there Ciprianus stood, panting on all fours. What's wrong with him? he asked, instantly smelling the metalic smell of blood.

"Gunshot wound," she replied grimly, backing away so the demon could look.

With a groan and a shudder, the wolf began to change shape, until he looked like a man. More or less. He had the same pure white hair and emerald green eyes that he had when he was a wolf, but two, stubby, hardly visible horns poked from his head. He looked pained by the transformation, but didn't comment. Instead, he began poking and prodding the wound with a smirk. Child's play, Ciprianus snorted. With one hand, he deftly reached two fingers in and grabbed the lodged shell, yanking it out. The other hand was over the wound, emanating a slight green glow. When Ciprianus removed his hand, almost nothing appeared to have changed.

"Is he going to be okay?" Schuyler asked business-like, looking slightly concerned that Edward was still bleeding.

Ciprianus stood, flicking the shell away. I fixed his organs and created more blood in his system so that he wouldn't go into shock. I left the simple stuff for you. I figured you needed to work on basic stitching and such.

She nodded, reaching into her pack and pulling out antiseptic, thread, and a needle. "I've gotten better at sewing," she said quietly as she bent down over Edward's wound. "Maybe the scar will come out cleaner." She quickly wiped the antiseptic cream over the wound, knowing that it would burn like hell. Then she threaded the needle head and plunged it into his skin with an apologetic smile, working quickly and efficiently. He probably won't even remember half of this, she thought cheerfully.
