Shifter mod was the only mod worth playing.
...I can't think of a good song to play for a HoH montage. It's like the only thing holding me up on this post.

Armour - Scout Pack - Flight Pack Weapons - Plasma Rifle, Boomstick Misc - Healing Pack, Grenades, Beacons, Mines

Boomstick was a thing of beauty in that game, but I always went with the sniper rifle instead of the plasma rifle. Was always a big fan of sniping people out of scouts.

At point blank, boomstick kills everything except juggernauts in a single hit. Too bad the time between shots were so high. But when a scout touches someone, they get disarmed, so its no worry and you can either pop them again or switch weapons and finish them off if they're not dead.
Sniping on scouts are wasted. It doesnt take advantage of their speed or disarm ability, and since they cant use the laser rifle without an energy pack, they're specialty to use flight packs are removed, and any ballistic based weapon still has to travel which takes time out of firing the shot, as well as the funky trajectory the game physics applies when you're moving.
I'd prefer either chameoeon or engineer for snipers. Chameleon 'cause its got the magnum and are decent from close and far range, and engineer 'cause they get a railgun and can plant turrets.
Or, haha, Juggernauts with a godhammer cannon pack on the broadside maps or if someone is willing to carry you out from a transport.

Well, one of the sniper rifles for Shifter mod (if I remember correctly, it's been like 5 years) used actual sniper rounds instead of the laser rifle. It didn't pack as much of a punch if it wasn't a headshot, but it was worth it for the flight bonus.

Yeah, the sniper rifle, not laser rifle. There was like... a sniper rifle, a laser rifle, a railgun, and a dartgun.
Shifter v.1_Y was retarded though. Assassins could rape anything since their grenades were mines, their mines were mines, and their beacon is a rapid fire sniper shot with little to no time between shots even if you have limited ammo. So you could run into a base dropping grenades and mines as you go, poison anyone you touch in the small spaces, and you pretty much have two weapons equipped at all times with the beacon and whatever's in your hands.
