Hyena are in neither the cat nor dog family, Clark. Hyaenidae, as opposed to "Felidae" and "Canidae."
Pups and cubs are often used interchangeably to describe hyena youth.

They're still not cats, and classifying them as such is dodgy at best, Underpants On The Outside. Just you wait until I teach them to pee liquid K, then you'll be sorry.
