"He'd probably faint from excitement." Maia tsked. When they'd run into each other four days ago, he'd fretted about Dari and then, as he chattered on, excitedly pulled up a picture on his phone he said everyone said was of alien nature. Maia had been pretty sure it'd been a photo of someone using flash against their mirror in the dark.
She nodded at Lori. "Thank you," She said. She didn't want to leave Toby's side. Not tonight.

The next day, Lori was able to go home. He had slept in the family room himself to make sure everything was alright, and in the morning he headed home. Toby already looked better. It might have just been his mind, but the strange veins across his body looked just a bit paler. Poor Dari, though, just having to sit there.
It was nice to wake up next to Luca again, though. Work was killer. Home life was terribly pleasant.

Luca had moved away from Lori in the night, shifting a few inches and turning. He had worried about Toby; the poor guy was in a medication induced coma while Dari filtered his blood of silver.
He was equally worried about telling Lori he'd quit his job. "Good morning, love," he turned to kiss Lori's cheek. "What'd you like for breakfast?"

Lori didn't like this distance. When Luca woke and kissed his cheek, he wrapped an arm around the redhead and pulled him close to kiss him properly.
"I don't know. What do you want?" He eyed the clock. How long did they have before Luca had to go in? "I mean, i don't burn eggs any more."

Luca smiled. "Eggs sound good," He said, kissing him again. "Later we should go out for ice cream, I found this place and they make their own waffle cones! Its great."

"Sure." He kissed Luca's head and nuzzled him, then kissed his forehead. "Do you want to get it straight from work? I could drive you in." He knew Luca had become oddly addicted to the sweet stuff lately, so why not have it before dinner?

Luca hesitated. He looked away. "I'm not scheduled today." In a way, it was true. But he wasn't scheduled for any other day, either. "So we have all day! What would you like to do most today?"

Lori's eyes narrowed. Huh, that was odd. It was almost like Luca was definitely not telling him something.
"Discuss why you can't look me in the eye, maybe." There was no threat in his voice. He simply slid over to Luca and half-laid atop him. If he lay down with his full weight, he might easily suffocate his poor fiance. He smiled down at him. "Did you get in trouble?" For coming to see him? Because really he was fine within a couple of hours.

Uh oh. "No. Well. Yes, they weren't happy," Luca admitted. "I quit," he said, after a moments pause. Stupid boss getting after him, his fiancee had been knocked unconscious! "Still feel like eggs?"

Lori slumped, but caught himself before he dropped his full weight.
"Love! It was just a little healing fatigue!" Well, 'a little' was sort of an understatement. He had been struck profoundly unconscious and required oxygen. He had been shaking, cold on the inside, and a bit loopy and perhaps grieving a little. His face went soft and open while his brow furrowed. Luca had lost his job for him! No, not lost, quit! Flat out! "Baby..."

"You needed me there!" Luca protested. "You were hurting, in more ways than one. And Toby's my friend, too. When Maia called I was on break, and I was just going to clock out earl y and the boss was like no, you need to stay here." Luca huffed.
He looked to Lori. "I'd rather be with you than stack books, any day."

Lori let his head fall to Luca's chest. He groaned in frustration, paused a moment, and then looked up again.
"I mean, I'm not angry. I'm glad you were there. I just... you really didn't have to quit your job for me, love."

"I didn't quit for you. Or because of you. My boss was an a*****e. I told him it was an emergency but no. No. He wouldn't listen." Luca stroked Lori's hair.
"Besides. I can always get another job." He did have about one hundred years experience.

Lori sighed and trailed kisses down Luca's neck. Alright, alright. It wasn't like he'd lost a job as a nuclear scientist or anything, he'd just been a librarian... for a long, long time. Hell, maybe Luca just wanted out as it was.

Luca kissed Lori's head. "C'mon, breakfast!" He smiled at him. "Then you can tell me what you want to do today." He kissed Lori again, and then added, "Who knows? My next job might have me working with you. Or at a coffee shop. Free coffee was appealing...
