[Joe: Core]

The fighter hissed as he recoiled from the 'barrier' that formed, escaping from it as quickly as possible just as Noelle's spear pierced an eye to no real apparent effect. Well, wasn't that lovely.

Of course, as the beast pulsed with what had to be an attack, Joe brought up his defenses, staff in hand and arms in an 'X' in front of him. Which was good as the dark flame that blasted out right at him hit squarely there, singing and burning his arms as the force sent him back a small ways. Right into the other one that hit him squarely in the side, making the monk reel in pain.

The monk grunted, following Noelle's lead and flinging his staff at the beast like a javelin before raising his guard again(cause it was unlikely that he could take another blow like that and come out smelling like roses, after all), of course just to add it to the barrage of magic missiles aimed at the darkness.

{James : Core}

James watched as his two shots impacted two different circles and they lit up with colors corresponding to the elements he had shot, namely Light and Fire which created additional branches to the tree which then expanded exponentially as Sora's Ragnarok hit it. The corsair returned his focus to Anima though right as the creature unleashed a barrage of fireballs at all of them, the corsair saw the one that was coming right at him and managed to doge it fairly easily. However, in doing so he dodged to the side which resulted in him getting hit with the one that had been coming for his flank.

{{Cue : History of the Moon}}

Thanks to Kyla's wall, the damage wasn't unbearable but it definitely still burned a fair bit causing the corsair to wince in pain and reel a bit way from the blast. When he was able to refocus he focused as much energy as he could into his hexagun, if they were going to win this fight the corsair had a feeling he was going to have to throw his best shots at it. As more energy built into the barrels the gun began to glow with purple light, indicative of James' lunar magic.

"Lunar Barrage!" The corsair shouted as he pulled the trigger unleashing twelve Lunar bullets in quick succession as if his six shot hexagun had become a fully automatic rifle which became added to the massive barrage of missiles that had been unleashed from Kyla's combined attack as they flew straight at Anima.

[ Noelle ~ Core]

Noelle gripped her spear as her mind seemed to clear, allowing her to react much more efficiently. She cast a boulder in the path of the Dark Firaga, effectively shielding herself from it, but wasn't ready for the second coming her way. Her eyes caught it, but her body didn't seem to move fast enough and the purple blaze struck the right side of her rib cage, eliciting a shout and hiss from the girl. It seemed as if the others had fallen to the same attack as well, but she refrained from casting cure spells. The Witch's Hair would soon ease the effects of the attack as it continued to drain Anima of her health and magic and disburse it to the group.

The agromancer prepared a Seed Strike, quickly growing a sunflower from her available earth. The large bloom separated from the soil easily, and with the assistance of a large swing, the seeds were all expelled like darts. The ones that made it would borrow deep into their foe and begin to grow, ripping into Anima and causing damage from the inside.

[ Sora ; Dawn : Core ]

As Dawn finally came to, she watched in awe of the group's mystic assault. As a result, though she was able to dodge the first Dark Firaga, the second one struck her from the side.

Move, Sunlight, the enchantments--!

I know!

Dawn began to twirl and flourish as best she could, twisting from her Endure the End dance into her Must Keep Moving display, followed shortly by carefully combining her War Dance and Mystic Dance--effectively refreshing all four enchantments successfully.

Internally, she breathed a sigh of relief that she didn't trip over her own shoes... in midair.

Sora reeled slightly as Kyla's spell grid went off. Not because it was impressive--though it certainly was--but because he felt the wind get sucked out of him, the energy for his Ragnarok suddenly costing more than he'd anticipated.

Note to self, take it easy while this plant drain works.

Deciding to keep it simple, Sora threw the Keyblade at Anima twice in quick succession for a double Strike Raid, infused with Kyle's light fire.

[ ¿ Anima ? : Core ]

{ Battle at the Core -- Battle Themes }
{ L'Eminenza Oscura I ~ Dream Drop Distance } { Summoned Beast Battle ~REMASTERED~ - Final Fantasy X }

Power. It summoned more and more power, convulsed with it, surged with it. The veins that lined everything were thriving, spreading unhindered, fed and overfed, the very corridor pulsating as if the creature was consuming the pathway itself.

Anima remained, watching as the attacks began to converge on it. In a last minute blur, it drew its arms over its face in a cross-guard fashion, and everything began to connect. Moments passed, seconds ticked by, and the projectiles seemed to keep coming. The blasts grew, the explosions piled upon one another, and with every new hit, the condensed energies grew brighter and brighter, making it hard to even focus on their enemy, until finally it ended, and the smoke began to settle.

As the clouds dispersed, they'd see the results of their attacks. Anima's arms, still covered in otherworldly veins of darkness, were also covered in craters and thick, penetrating ivy from Noelle's Seed Strikes.

The arms slowly fell, limply hanging in the void, as the monstrous face of Anima continued to grin, continued to stare at them with its seven freezing eyes.

User Image

"Yes... Struggle... Show us the depths of your strength..."

It was a nasty sight. On top of the wounds along its arms, Noelle's Witch's Hair continued to spread across its face and body, draining away health and mana constantly while searing its flesh with light energy. And yet, despite it all, its body continued to exude negative energy at a vastly increasing rate.

The grin suddenly widened.

User Image

"That you shall grasp, at last, our boundless pow'r!"

Its arms blurred upward and spread out, as if in welcome, and the grin opened up to reveal a gaping maw of gravitic energy. Without a chance to resist, all six fighters were dragged forward through space until they were all in within arm's reach. Before they could react, Anima was wildly grinning again--

--and began unleashing a furious, unavoidable flurry of bestial jabs and punches, targeting each and every one of them three times at random. Every attack seemed to explode with pent-up dark blasts, making the assault that much more jarring.

After the eighteenth and final blow, and before they could so much as breathe again, the arms pulled back and Anima opened its mouth wide once more, screeching its terrible, otherworldly scream as the entire area again flooded with potent magic that converged on them from all sides, the Dark Ultima.

[[ Anima's Oblivion Attack <-- That's a link, click for example.

Damn the Math: If you want to be KO'd, okay. If you want to be in Limit Break, okay. If you want to be fine but really really close? Okay!

Essentially, due to all the enchantments you have, each punch would feel fairly average, and the punch-blasts actually wouldn't be damaging so much as they are shocking. The Ultima would probably do a bit of damage to everyone except for those with high magic resist already. And with Bubble, you have double pain tolerance anywho.

Basically, I just made sure this one would be powerful enough, yet not overwhelmingly so, that you could decide for yourselves.

And translations:
"Yes... Struggle... Show us the depths of your strength..."
"That you shall grasp, at last, our boundless pow'r!"]]

"Dunno. Fighting's been my whole life."

Finishing his seasalt ice cream popsicle, he paused in thought before shrugging. "I can't even remember what it's like to not be ready for battle."

[[Louis? : Core : Inside Kyla]]

The sprite reformed only to be crushed again by a fist, over and over he refused to be put out, the little glow finally forming one last time before the monster started charging Dark Ultima. He looked around and vanished in a flash, reappearing beside Kyla in full body form. In his desperation, he did the only thing he could think to do. Without hesitation he threw his arms around the girl and covered half of her with his body in an attempt to shield her from the oncoming attack with himself as a living shield.

[[Shen : ??? : Basilisk Aircraft]]

As the helicopter hybrid set down in the clearing, Shen looked wearily out at the landscape, the underbrush of the giant thorny canopy bared no better tidings than its predecessor. Every leaf, every branch, every bush had thorns while every shadow didn't seem to want to stay still. Everything about this place felt aggressive, malevolent. Shen opened the door to the craft anyway and stepped outside, glancing around and checking for anything that might jump out and attack them. Nothing in particular stuck out, but then again, everything looked like it wanted to attack them.

He looked back to the others, "Clear over here."

[Joe: Core]

The fighter, even through defending, was letting out pained cries and grunts as the beast let loose it's attacks on them. There was no avoiding it, and even with his guard up he felt searing pain all over his body.

Of course, once the attack was over, he gasped for air, winded from the blows. He was weak...dangerously so, judging from from the pain and his own ragged breathing. Which just meant he needed to help himself to what the Aeon had to offer.

He darted forward, glowing ever brighter as his limbs became covered in light. He lashed out, hit after hit at the beast, the light drawing on Anima's energy, the damage turning into healing for the monk's health and mana reserves, healing up the monk more the more damage he did.

{James : Core}

James' focus remained locked on the beast as projectile after projectile struck Anima's arms as it raised them to protect it's face. If the corsair had tried to keep count of the projectiles, he was sure he would have lost it long ago the energy building up until finally all that remained was smoke and when that finally cleared Anima's arms were covered in craters, despite all of that damage though it still remained.

'How...? How can it still be alive after all of that...?' the corsair thought staring at it in awe as it spoke.

Before he could react, even have the slightest hope of getting away from it, Anima drew them all in to melee range and it unleashed a flurry of punches and jabs hitting them all with powerful jarring blows and then finished off it's Oblivion overdrive with another Dark Ultima.

The corsair floated on his back for a few seconds as he tried to catch his breath. He was certain if it weren't for the buffs that they all had on that that would have been the end of this fight. With a groan the corsair finally righted himself and refocused. He understood all too well what the others had been afraid of, this power, unlike anything the corsair had ever faced before.

"We can't let this thing win," the corsair stated more to himself than anyone else.

'I'm going to give this thing everything that I've got left, he thought as he pulled out the Light Card once again and focused all of his energy, every ounce of what he felt like he had left into the barrels of his hexagun.

The barrels responded by beginning to glow brightly, almost blindingly if anyone of them looked directly at them as the energy built up more and more. The corsair had only used this attack once before, the first time it had been pure fire and it had completely melted the ice warriors that had been summoned by Mateus. He hoped that it would be just as powerful this time around.

He pulled the trigger and unleashed a blinding blast of light from his hexagun. The Elemental Burst aimed directly for Anima's head. It would leave the corsair completely drained afterwards, he knew that, but at this point it was about all that he could throw until Noelle's vines granted him more magic.

[Kyla: Core]

Despite how Louis tried to help, he was only a mental image, projected- somehow she didn't know. As he threw her arms around her in a valiant attempt the blows landed regardless and she screamed not from pain, but fear. Anima- no- this thing, terrified her. Trully. It was the stuff her nightmares were always made of. It was the reason she feared the dark, all terror and darkness manifest- and as he sucked them closer Kyla felt her heart chill.
It was bad- a dark pessimism inside her suspected it was turn out like this and HATED being right in this way.

It reacted like nothing they landed even mattered!

As she stared into that gaping maw from between Louis phantasmal encircling arms, the artist did the only thing left to do. That combined attack drained her quite a bit- she didn't know if another combined attack would be enough, and some were using the remainder of their abilities, hoping for Noelle's spell to restore what they would lose. For the first time she actually wished it had hurt her a bit more, had it done so she could have used her limit break but Kyla just wasn't there yet-

Already her mana was really low and at this point in time what mattered was rebuffing the group as with this final attack their protection faded. Still it was the most important thing she could do- but she had to ensure she got everyone fast enough! Dawn was already dancing again and so Kyla called out to her- “Dawn! The buffs-“ just then the effects of the magic faded, the defenses dropping again-“ If you would be so kind?” she of coarse was referring to what Noelle just did- using Dawns all cast ability to milk this recast as quickly as possible.
She felt so sore and her mana felt small now-sputtering inside her chest like a candle flame reduce to cinders on the end of the wick. If Dawn could do this it would make the most of what she had left.
While she was still reeling from the terrible assault, Dawn still heard Kyla's call. With a flick of her wrists, a twist of her hips, and a wave of her arms, she sent a focused breeze over to Kyla--a breeze that circled her swiftly, like a gust of wind funneled through a breezeway seeking exit.

"Just focus your magic on the breeze!" she said. "When it gets your magic it'll let loose!"

The pictomancer did as she was instructed- and cast Warding Lotus onto the wind-

"Ugh, you're impossible," the hyperactive ninja groaned, rolling her eyes. "Pretend for just a second you're not a violent McGrumpy Pants, would you? There's gotta be something you like to do besides hit things with your sword!"

[ Cloud : Disney : Fairgrounds ]

Cloud raised a brow as he looked at the small ninja, perplexed. She'd lived a similar life, he didn't quite grasp what had her so frustrated.

"Um... sleep?" he said, and though he kept a straight face for seconds, there was a very brief crack as one side of his lips twitched--humoring her.

[ Noelle ~ Core]

Noelle began to panic as the group was sucked in, unable to evade the force. She quickly pulled her earth toward her, forming a set of armor around her small body as they drew nearer, expecting an attack but not knowing what it might be. The first strike smashed into her, making her grunt but otherwise doing little damage. The earthen plates around her were quickly disintegrating from the attack, leaving her well exposed to the next two attacks. There just wasn't enough time to harden her armor again, and though the second strike didn't deal full damage, the last one did. The Dark Ultima just added onto the pain, and by the time they had some sort of reprieve, Noelle had had enough.

The agromancer did a quick scan, looking to see who needed what the most. By way of the seeds she'd given everyone, she cast a Cura spell, delivering a little Casablanca Lilly bloom above everyone's head. Next she cut off the drain disbursement from James and Joe--their health and mana levels were stable enough now to continue without the feed. Sora and Kyla were in greatest need. They would soon feel the effects of the channeled drain from Anima, the seeds on their beings providing even more mana than before as the number of people on the system lessened. It wouldn't be enough to replenish them quickly, but they'd be able to protect themselves in a pinch.

{Yuffie .:. Disney Castle Town .:. Fairgounds}

For a moment, Yuffie stared at her friend, wondering for about half a heartbeat just how serious he was. Then she saw the faintest hint of a smile, and she laughed.

"I knew you had a sense of humor!" she exclaimed, nudging him with her elbow. Finishing off her ice cream, she frowned at the empty dish in utter disappointment. It hadn't lasted nearly long enough, in her opinion.
