To me, PCs are like another console. One that is infinitely more complicated and complex. You can get so much better graphics and sound, and the control scheme is very adjustable. On the other hand, my console makes games that are easy to use, have a more ergonomic control scheme, and tend to run without lag or issues for me. It's all preference and knowing what you want out of a gaming platform.

@Skreemer: Exactly. And PCs have the flexibility of plugging in a controller. When a game doesn't have adequate controller support, there are thankfully tools that can do the mapping external to the game (Joy2Key and such). Of course, consoles used to have keyboard and mice peripherals 10-20 years ago, back when browsing the internet on them was really new; I wonder if they still do, not that any games would support them anyway.
@Magni: Yeah, it's basically ease VS customization, which is a fine tradeoff and why console gaming will never completely die off (even if it does in its current form).

The last console mouse I used or even saw for sale was back in the old, old, old days of the PS1. It was a clunky slow thing on everything it worked on. Especially the terrible port of Simcity 2000 we got.

@Magni: I know how you feel with that. Some things are hard to wait for. A new TF in your case?
@Skreemer: The Dreamcast's keyboard & mouse were decent, though I didn't use them much since we only had dial-up back then.

The Dreamcast... that was the first console we had that I felt really amazed by. So many memories of playing the Sonic Adventures and Shenmue and Soul Calibur and thinking that this was what the future of gaming. And then the PS2 and Xbox came along and killed it. I feel like we're missing a piece of console diversity still.

Well, Alienware is stepping into the console market with the Alpha, so there is some more diversity coming. Their pitch is that the "console" is made for accessing Steam and other online platforms and connecting to your TV. Combining the aspects of PC and console gaming into a new box. The catch? it is $599 in Walmart. That is a lot of bones . . .
Yoder, Four, actually. I purchased the three portions of Ordin released thus far, a new weapon for general play, and got a free tetrajet for my customer loyalty. It arrived this morning at 9:35 in my town, but FedEx decided to hand it off to the local mail service . . . and they didn't deliver it today. I has an impatient sad.

I am/was a Sega fan, so I loved the Dreamcast to death. It had a great library. Of course, I also love the Genesis and Saturn, but Dreamcast is #1 for me.
Oh, is that one of those new SteamBoxes? I'm curious to see how well the idea fares, especially with Steam's unorthodox controller design (though any USB controller can be used).
Ah, I too hate waiting on a package when it's technically arrived.

I agree with these package angers. My fiancee sent me a box of pulparindo bars two months ago and it has not arrived. I was thinking earlier, if sega wanted to get Shenmue 3 made, they could probably go by kickstarter or patreon.

No, it isn't a steam box, it's an Alpha. That is the actual "console" name. Produced by Alienware Computers, it is made to be compatible with Steam, so those that use the online service (very popular from what I know) can immediately access all those games on a convenient method using a nice big TV instead of a monitor.
Wild box appeared. I now have my toys, and am pleased.
I sent boxes to my family in England, at the same time. They had the same address, same information, left from the same location on the same day. One arrived nearly a week ago. The other is nowhere to be seen.

The creator of Shenmue actually said he was considering crowdfunding a few years ago. However, Sega would have to approve, since they own the IP.
*looks up* Ah, Alpha is their Windows alternative to their upcoming Steam Machine steam box. Steam boxes are Steam's initiative for console gaming as you describe the Alpha is. Yes, Steam is HUGE.
Must be nice to have them finally. That's a shame, but international shipping can be weird like that...

That makes sense. It's not creator owned so it can't just waltz off with him. A steambox or windows equivalent would be useful in a way. Also I think I might be sitting on rights to publish a serialisation of the next Dune.

It is nice to have them . . . they have some more complicated movements in their transformations than I expected on one of them. Another is balls-out nuts to move from one form to the next, so I am not sure how often he will be in robot mode . . .
I wonder if the Shenmue franchise could benefit from the same actions of Mighty No 9? With the Megaman creator sick of being sidelined, he went rogue and while not an official sequel in the series, there is not a single person that doesn't see what he is working on as the newest in that line of games.

@Skreemer: What serialization is that?
@Magni: I can only imagine how complex some of those TFs can get.
Sadly, no, as the primary point of interest for Shenmue is the conclusion of the story (it's story > gameplay, by far). I'm not sure how the creator could make a clone of it and wrap up the story without being confusing.

I have bad news for you both [bad news for ya'll, good news for me]
I'm going to work at Colorado. I am leaving on May 15th. However, at the same time, I got accepted to a college in Colorado, so I'm trying to finish everything before camp, which means i won't be able to post. I am also trying to go ahead and pack because after my job and before college, I don't have that much time.
Sorry ><
