Streamjumper Sounds like you got to see the awesome power of the Tau, withering hails of torrential firepower... Especially dangerous when you understand how to prioritize targets and set up firing lanes and crossfire. The funny thing is that the Tau are still actually quite underpowered compared to a Marine... their players just learn to use them better or get bored and move to another army. The Tau player I played against could not take advantage of terrain. He actually ended up setting his troops up in one big line behind cover that it turns out he couldn't even fire through. His fire warriors ended up getting chewed up pretty bad. The Tyranid players, on the other hand, were so good at keeping their troops protected that they reached the front line of the Space Marine bunker with nearly 95% of their force intact. Which was bad news for our Dreadnought and Assault Marines. Quote: Your main strengths against this tactic are that your army is large enough to leave guards near your vehicles and a firing range long enough to butt your tanks up against terrain. Use obscurement to your best advantage, and keep a token force back as reinforcements to deal with surprises like this. I was thinking of purchasing some sentinels for just such a defense. 3 anti-infantry sentinels seems like enough to make people at least think twice about deep striking behind my heavy guns. Plus they are pretty fast, so they can respond to threats like that better than most. Quote: As an IG, you'll have to take the Kroot Mercs as an ally choice. They are outlined in one of the Chapter Approved books... either 03 or 04. The best use for them is as a detaining force. Use their infiltrate ability to seed a cluster or two of them across the battlefield to help break up the open areas you think people are gonna try to charge through... don't leave em in the open, but stuff em into terrain just within charging distance of anyone trying to slip by. Between their two strength 4 attacks per model and their st 4 rapid fire 24 inch rifles, they will cause your opponent to take their time either avoiding them or charging through. Better yet if you can hole them up in at least 6 inches of forrest, which they can fire through yet cannot be fired upon within. You know, the more you tell me about them the more I think they would make a great addition to my army, especially since the terrain I tend to play in is thick forest, I could really take advantage of the Kroot's strength then. Quote: Another odd effect the Kroot have is that many players are somewhat unsure of them... I've watched units capable of eating my chickenheads skirt them entirely out of paranoia. Apparently many Tau players don't use them, so people are unfamiliar with them. I must admit that I'm guilty of doing that. I had no idea what they could do, so I thought it would be best if I stayed away from them and focused on the units I knew I could deal with.

...When did Basalisk get licensed?
EDIT: Hmmm...Funi got it. I'll have to grab the DVDs when they're out. I'm a bit surprised, though, since Basalisk (from what I've seen, all of the first episode) seems significantly more dark than the majority of their other stuff.

I remember when that first hit... xd Hito: That Tau player should have let the terrain form firing lanes that he could use for area denial tactics. A lot of people try to stay out of the way of pulse rifles... even pathologically so. besides, a markerlight in each of those units could have more than justified risking them just to call in cluster munitions from that Hammerhead. Kroot or Catachan would benefit you a hell of a lot on a forest board like that. Either is really good. Your sentinel strategy is nice, so would a decent squad of basic troops or two. Since a lot of the nastier stuff that'll deepstrike you, I'd reccomend leaning more towards heavier fire than basic antipersonel. You're gonna probably see Termies, Aspect Warriors, non-synapse nids, and demons coming in on deepstrike. I know I like sending crisis and stealth teams back there to wreak some havok. Maybe some thing with templates on strong weaponry could do it... Easiest way to kill Space Chickens is to shoot the unholy ******** outta em, preferably with template weapons. Their best noncover save is 6+, so they die quick when shot. Almost nothing you have is gonna scare them in hand to hand though.

I, for one, am glad to see it, even if their booth at Fanime didn't really reflect that. Ah well. Can't wait for the DVDs now.
