Nebride's eyes fluttered open in time to see the emperor smash Valco's head into the earth. The remaining souls sang a song of happiness as they disappeared into the lake. The shadow spirits she had summoned smiled slightly and disappeared. Jeroviah's was the last to go. She looked up as the emperor spoke to her.
"you......you are the girl your parents guarded this lake. I assure you your parents died with honor facing me."
Nebride watched as he spoke to the others. All the paladins left, taking their wounded with them save for one. Only him, the emperor, Gwendar and herself were left. Gren had stayed in the background.

Gwendar:
he was in total shock
he couldnt believe the emperor was here talking to him SAVING HIM!
he was speechless.
here before him stood the emperor of mankind.
the man who wore armour of pure gold and mithril.
his armour was rumerd to way literally a ton.
this man was treated as if he was a god and it was now that gwendar saw him did he truly understand why.
Emperor:
"Vordun help that man" he said pointing to the witch hunter.
"he may be considered a traitor but i get the final word on that subject" he said
he turned his attention to the elf.
he reached into a small pocket and pulled out a silvery substance.
"its liquid mithril" he said
"when solid its the strongest of armours but as a drink it is a potent healing potion" he said
"made only for emperors you are lucky to even glance upon it" he said as he helped her drink it.
she only drank a sip but it was enough to completely revitalize her.
"i told you it was strong.....this is supposed to be enough to bring me back from the dead" he said
hmm shes pretty for an elf. its a pitty that her parents where killed over such a thing as a lake
he couldnt believe he was conned into fighting over this lake.

Nebride looked at him thoughfully as the liquid healed her. Her hair turned back to its normal shade of silver and the red disappeared from her eyes. "He---he saved me. Why? I don't understand. I thought he hated the elves."
"Thank....thank you," Nebride finally whispered.

Gwendar:
the first hting he did was rush by Nebrides side.
"are you ok?" he said
he hugged her as he said it.
"i was so worried" he said
he notcied she was still staring at the emperor who was ow standing straight.
he was huge.
he could understand why they told story's of daemons running in fear from him.
his hands alone could crush me he thought

"I'm fine Gwendar," Nebride finally replied as she looked at him. "Truth be told--I was not worried about me. I was only worried about you." She sighed as she rubbed her eyes. "I knew that if I died--if he hurt you--like I thought he would---he would begin to lose power. A little trick of mine."

Emperor:
"huh i thought i smelt shadow magic"
he didnt mean to be insulting he just distrusted such trickery he believed if you were going to fight a foe u do it face to face.
"anyway the empire is in debt to you. and i always honor my debts." he looked at Gwendar
"you can ounce again serve me as a witch hunter your crimes are clearly forgiven."
he turned ounce again to Nebride
"as for you this land is now placed under strict protection of the empire!...this might not seem fair but the power this lake holds cannot be let fall into evil hands."
he could tell she wouldnt like his verdict
"you are to give me all powers over this lake....i shall encase this place with mithril walls if i have to"
"but you and your people will be given rights to 50 hectares of land.....whever they choose" he said
that was 20 times the amount of space most others are given.
he was hoping they'd choose the forests.
he need every scrap of land under his control.
any place he didn't own was a place he couldn't see and thats where the great enemy may strike from next.
Gwendar:
"NO i dont want to be a witch hunter anymore" he said
the emperor was clearly shocked.
"i want the right to marry again" he said staring into the emperors eyes through his helmet. when joining the witch hunter order you give up such rights
Emperor:
"you may do as you wish....but clearly you must want something else in return for your service?"
Gwendar:
"i want all my belongings to remain mine.....and......this lake to be placed under my protection." he had requested that for Nebride.
he knew the emperor could not be seen to give such power to the elves. but what would be the harm in giving it to one of his citizens.
Emperor:
"this lake is of great importance.....i shall have this place converted into a fortress i must keep it safe!"
he said sternly
he had a thought
"you must protect this lake with your life understood!.....its protection is up to you......you will be lord of this land. and as such you must hire protection for it in what ever way you choose."
he saw gwendars face light up a bit
"i shall send you supply's in order to make housing for your guards and there family's.......and should u feel the need to build a castle it must not be over 5 levels in height."
he knew what he was doing.
he basically just gave Gwendar the right to hire elves as gaurds and let them live there.
"but should i hear any word of the lake wether good or bad ill be back understood" he said
it was only then did he see a small mark on gwendars shoulder.
it was in the shape of a hammer.
"OH GOOD GOD!!"
he shouted
he pulled vurdon over near him and grabbed gwendar by the arm and showed the man the mark.
Gwendar:
"its just a birth mark, dambit let go of me" he said
he didnt fight them off knowing full well that nontechnically the emperor had the right to do whatever he wanted.
emperor:
he and vurdon both looked at each other.
vurdon gave him a nod and took a step back
"HA HA HA i never knew." he said laughing
gwendar was very confused.
"Boy you must know that im not exactly known for having ONE wife"
gwendar knew
everyone knew.
the emperor had 10 wifes in fact. some believed it wasnt moral to do that but others thought simply that it wouldnt matter each girl was usually a peasant or prior servant and was treated like a queen.
"well boy not many people know that i have a great many sons. up till now i thought i only had 4"
gwendar was starting to get very confused
"what do u mean Up till now?"

Nebride looke from the emperor to Gwendar and then back to the emperor. "My God--I see it now." She placed a hand on Gwendar's shoulder.
"Look at him closely Gwendar--does he look familiar to you?" She let him study the emperor for a moment before continuing. "I knew there was a reason why you looked so familiar to me. I had seen someone like you before--the emperor. Gwendar--you are the emperor's son."

Emperor:
"ONE of them yes.....but im afraid it wont mean much"
he said looking at them.
"the throne will be given to my first son.......and should he die my second....and should he die Vurdon"
he said looking behind him.
Gwendar:
"Oh my god"he said
this cant be happening hes the emperors son.
"your my FATHER!!" he yelled
"i cant believe this"
emperor:
"well you better start to....but im afraid you cant tell another soul understood.....im only suposed to have 2 sons now i got 5"
Gwendar:
he didnt care he was to happy already.
not only did he get nebrides land back he had the right to marry her and save her people.

Nebride shuddered as her eyes glazed over. Someone was trying to contact her. "Who is it?"
"Nebride---it's Jane. Are you okay? You haven't contacted us in a while and we all felt a strange pull. It felt almost like the soul lake was being used. What's going on Nebride? Are you okay?"
"Jane--tell everyone that everything is fine. Sure I have had a few complications along the way, but my mission is done now. Eleclyo is dead. He has payed for his crimes. Another thing--we may have our home by the lake back."
"What!? How?"
"I will explain later Jane--I have to go for now."
Nebride blinked her eyes as she came back to herself. She shook her head and sighed.

"well i must depart" he said
"i have other matters to attend to"
with thathe mounted his griffon and took off.
Gwendar:
he looked back at Nebride
"i told you id get your land back" he said
"but im afraid id be the lord of this place" he said hugging her.

"It does not matter Gwendar." Nebride whispered as she clung to him. "All that matters is that you did keep your promise and we're both alive." She buried her face in his shoulder. "Thank you for everything."

Nebride pulled away from him. "Come with me. I wish to show you something." She grasped Gwendar's hand and led him around the lake. "I used to walk this everyday. It was peaceful and rejuvenating. As kids we would play here and make up our own little games."
She turned to look at Gwendar. "I am happy that you did what you did. Now my people can be free to be here again. The children can experience life like I did all those years ago." She puled Gwendar to the ground with her.
"This is where I slept most of the time. Sometimes my parents would make me come back to the house, but mostly they allowed me this one peaceful place to sleep." Nebride lay back and rested her head on Gwendar's chest as he held her close. "This is the perfect place."

"i will have to keep my promise to the emperor tho....ill need to build some kind of defense or hell think i betrayed him."
he had another thought.
"but that doesn't matter now. besides now that im lord of this land im going to have to find a lady" he said looking at her joking.
"do you know any women who might be up for it?"
he was teasing her he knew she knew he wanted her to marry him.

Nebride looked at him thoughtfully. "Well--none come to mind at the moment." She grinned at him. "Two can play at that game." She sighed. "Gwendar....what did Jeroviah's spirit say to you? He must have said something when he gave you those powers. He would never have done it unless he was absolutely convinced about you."
