He spared a look at Kaleb when he heard the giggle. "Ya know .. shouldn't do that like that." It made him sound even more like a kid.

Kaleb just giggled again. "Riley... Riley, look! It worked!" His tail wagged, and he practically wiggled with excitement. "This conversion table is complex and requires a lot of delicate casting, but when applied to this type of spell it amplifies the energy so I don't have to channel as much for the same effect."

He paused the game and looked at the shield then Kaleb. "Huh?" It just looked like the ones he normally used only it was visible.

"Look!" Kaleb repeated, now reaching out to touch the slightly concave surface of the shield. "Nothing I know of can break this shield, but I can only hold it so long because it requires constant energy to stay as dense as it is, but this conversion means I can hold it longer," he babbled excitedly, not taking his eyes off his spell.

"Oh .. um .. cool?" He didn't really get it still. He didn't know what stuff meant in context with the spells or how they worked.

Kaleb was too excited by his discovery to be put off by Riley's lack of comprehension. "I could probably hold this spell for twenty minutes!" He exclaimed. Surely his partner would be able to understand the significance of that statement, if he had been able to hold the shield longer back when the building collapsed on them, he would have burned himself so badly.

"So ..... you can hold it longer with less energy?" He was trying to understand even if most of the 'magic' stuff went over his head.

Kaleb nodded eagerly, finally taking his eyes away from his shield to glance at Riley. "Essentially there are three parts to any spell I use, an element, a conversion table, and energy. The conversion table determines how the energy is used, and this one will let me use less energy to have the same effect." It was pretty amazing, although his body had heated up a bit, he wasn't even breaking a sweat yet.

"So it's like an energy efficient light bulb?" Probably a bad comparison but that was all he could think of.

Kaleb paused, his mouth half open to reply for a couple seconds before he found the appropriate answer. "Maybe? I don't know how energy efficient lightbulbs work, but it could be like that."

"They just make light bulbs use less energy than normal ones" He shrugged. "Don'tk now how the work either."

"I guess the concept is the same," Kaleb replied with a grin. He didn't let go of the shield as he talked, he wanted to actually test it to see how long he could hold it before it became uncomfortable.

He leaned over and poked Kaleb's neck with his nose. "Warm ....." He forgot about that. The mage got hot when he used magic and it felt good at least for a while.

Kaleb hadn't been expecting the sudden nose poke, and the touch sent a strong shiver right down his spine. Heating up also meant a sensitivity increase, and he couldn't help but react.
