::And he was out. Like a light. The boy didnt snore, he slept as peacefully as the dead. Barely moving...quiet...peaceful.

Dawn broke early in the desert. Beams of light at dawn threatened the coming of morning in Ruuvans eyes. But that wasnt the only threat. There was a vicious poking which had begun on his forehead area.

-Poke- -poke- - poke- -poke poke-::

Wake up....wake up.

::It was a soft little voice coming from the edge of the bid sitting on a pillow with a tray in front of him. The tray had eggs bacon, chicken, toast, milk and some orange juice. This was coupled with steak and eggs. And of course, ketchup. This all sat out across a wooden tray beside the sleeping Ruuvan in bed.::

Bweakfast time!

::The voice said with a smile. D, sitting beside Ruuvan. Breakfast in bed!::

He had thought it as soon as seeing the room and he was about to think it again: You definitely got your money's worth in this place. Normally Ruuvan wasn't a heavy sleeper, which normally meant he woke up many times in the night and ended up waking up more tired than when he went to sleep, but this time he slept like a log and was happy to be woken up with a hearty breakfast in front of him.

"Where'd this all come from?" Ruuvan said clearly, surprisingly awake after having a good sleep. He sat up on the bed and reached over without hesitation, grabbing a fork and plugging a piece of cooked bacon into his mouth. It was such a good feeling to have a nice fry up after sleeping so long and well, especially one made as good as this.

:: D was fully dressed from head to toe. Despite all the stains on his clothes the night before, his clothes were perfectly pressed and cleaned.::

Oh!

::He said as he fiddled in his pockets and pulled out a handful of rubies, gems, diamonds, each about the size of a quarter. He smiled as brightly as the gems and said...::

Big brudda gave me dese, fer when I need to pay for stuffs!

::When he sat up Ruuvan would see another try, with just as much food completely and totally empty. D had eaten too!::

So!

::He said with a little hop.::

Where to next?

It was a good thing Ruuvan was currently eating and had a full mouth to burst out shouting as D produced all those rare stones from his pocket, mainly as each one would be worth a small fortune, but he had to settle for opening his eyes wide and looking shocked at the things in D's hand. He soon snapped out of it though, finishing off the last few pieces of food on the plates - he was a fast eater - and making sure he was dressed properly, seeing as he didn't take off his clothes or anything.
"I need to talk to the manager about something, after that I don't really know."

So, after finishing the food and gathering their things, Ruuvan and D turned up at the main building they had gone to the other night. This time, instead of being greeted by a tired guy who looked like he just wanted sleep, they were met with a friendly smile of the same, though less tired, hotel manager.
"Good morning. First let me thank you for the great room and the service, it's worth every penny." He bowed his head to the man slightly before continuing on, lowering his tone and looking slightly more serious now the pleasantries were out of the way, "Who were the other people who used that room, the ones who left the gash?"

::The middle aged man looked to the left, and then to the right.::

He didnt talk much, but he left big tip, like ze boy zhere. He vore a black cloak. I never saw his face.

::He looked around at the room and back at Ruuvan, leaning closely.::

Vhy? Is he in trouble?

The description fit Maximos too much to just be a coincidence, so Ruuvan would have to keep pressing the man for information. Of course it was only polite to ask the question in his reply, otherwise it would be one sided and cause both parties to become tired of it.
"No, he's just a friend of mine who I would like to find." Of course it might not have been Maximos, but it still added to the air of urgency and would hopefully coerce the man to answer more, "Did he have a top hat and glasses, or did you not get to see them? Also, do you have any idea how that gash got here or where he might be going?" Of course this was a barrage of questions, but Ruu needed to know.

Sir...

::The man said with a rather frank look on his face.::

I do not ask questions about de wierd sounds I hear coming from rooms. Like the screaming from you and the little boy last night?

::He gave Ruuvan a little wink.::

People like different things.

::He shook his head side to side and laughed a bit but then continued.::

He said somezhing aboot going to a Shadow Island, some type of island south of Gouldor. A windmill, Master Mashimox. I tink. Yes, zhats right.

::A little nod, and a slight rub on his chin.::

Anyzing else?

Ruuvan was noticeably pissed off at the man's comment about himself and D; eyes narrowing and fists clenching on the counter, but he resisted the urge to smack the man upside the head for suggesting anything that cruel.
"How would I get to that island, sir?." If that didn't get the message across that this guy best watch his step, Ruu didn't know what would.

:: Oh, he got the message. But he also got the idea that this was his shop and information giving was a courtesty. He looked Ruuvan directly in the eye.::

Do I look like a sailor? I walk de desert sands not de ocean waves. Good-day, sir.

::That final "Sir" was sort of the hint that said, it was time for Ruuvan to leave. So did the fact that he started walking away after answering the question.::
PostPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:16 pm

Ruuvan huffed as the man walked away, turning heel and doing the same in the other direction with D walking alongside him. Perhaps he had gone too far, but so did the man saying something that vulgar, so they were even in Ruuvan's eye.
"Looks like we're in for another long drive, D. All the way back to Latent, we're getting on a boat." Maybe the prospect of getting on a boat and going on the ocean would appeal to D, maybe it wouldn't, either way they were going to have to get to that island and to that windmill. So, once in the Hummer and set to go, Ruu turned to D with a smile and slight nod, "As I said, it's a long drive." And with that, they pulled off and headed back towards Latent.

Planar squinted, almost concealing his dark brown eyes against the tan of his face. It had been months, maybe a little over a year since he last stepped foot into town. He shook his head.
"What? Look, alright, it is a large ruby. But it's ugly. Look at it, there's still rock covering most of it. Who'd buy that, huh?" the merchant wiped his forehead with the back of his sleeve, grinning stupidly. Planar opened his dry mouth slowly, as if to argue the aspect of beauty in a gem's naturally formed shape. But he said nothing, he couldn't think of the words to explain it without standing there for a few hours. The merchant's eyes almost exploded from his skull when Planar put the ruby chunk on the counter. It was unrefined, true, but the rough stone that clung to the ruby is how it was pulled from the ground.
"But..." the merchant sighed in a forced way that made even Planar notice was false, "I'll buy it from you just so you don't leave here and get ripped off by another jeweler." Planar was still busy wondering to himself what made the gemstone before him so cheap. It contained more ruby than most of the jewelery in the store.
"Five hundred gold, and that's being giving since I have to do all kinds of work to make this into something even remotely sellable." he said, still grinning. Plannar squinted again, not fully understanding some of the english words. Maybe he had spent too long in the sand this time, but he could have sworn he was payed much more for something far smaller. Times changed perhaps, or maybe five hundred was a number he didn't remember. Planar spoke quickly in another language that the merchant didn't understand, and quickly corrected himself after seeing the confused look on the man's face.
"Fine." Planar surrendered, disappointed in himself for letting such a beautiful rock be take for an unknown ammount, only to be butchered and chopped.
"Fantastic! Oh, and I have to tell you there are no refunds." the merchant added with a chuckle and a careful look, like he was waiting for something. Planar tilted his head to the side, he understood the words but the intent was so very questionable. He opened his mouth to comment, but was waved out by the merchant.
"No refunds! Thank you for your business!" and Planar was sent on his way with a few hundred gold in his satchel now slung over his shoulder and across his chest.

Lets go!

:: D said as he triumphantly thrust his fist into the air. He zoomed behind Ruu and off they were! Drive time! He was re-birthed with energy and ready to roll!::

Planar nodded at the merchant and took his meal. He knew for sure now: the jeweler had severely short-handed him for the ruby. The price for this simple food and drink nearly used all of his profit from the deal he had gotten at the jewelry store. While he ate Planar still cruised through the open market of Strata, ignoring the shouts calling to him to try this or buy that. This place wasn't a bad town, the buildings were made well from material in the ground, which made the place just feel better. The earth tones went well with the desert that surrounded this place.
"Latent." Planar muttered to himself, taking another bite from the hard bread he had bought. He was relearning to read english, his mind slowly returning to him. There was an advertisement for some kind of tournament in the town of Latent. Tournaments didn't matter to him for now, he only needed to rest his mind for a few days before returning to the desert. What caught his attention was the image of a massive stadium. It would be worth a look, should he find out just how to get to Latent. It was a harbor, one of the boats probably went there.

Planar had quickly changed his mind upon sight of one of the large vessels. He didn't trust being off of the ground as it was, let along something that looked to sink if caught in a strong wind. His glance caught that of a small lizard, that was staring out from the shade between buildings, and it stared back. If there was any sure way to leave it would be back through the desert, where Planar knew he could be in control, and not sink. He tossed the small remaining hunk of bread towards the lizard and left, doubting that the lizard would even move or eat it. The rythmic, almost cartoonish bonk sounded with each step, the staff striking stone on the ground. He shook his face wrap once to loosen sand from it before covering most of his face with it. Purely of habit, there would be so much sand with Planar wherever he went no ammount of shaking could free it all, it was like the sand came out of his own pores.
