"Work on what?... Oh. Your arm. All right.. Don't strain-" He paused, his shovel sinking into clay. "... I think.." He pushed the blade in deep, yanking it out with a sick schluck schluck, tossing clay out. "Getting close.."

Tsurai hastily got up, hearing the sound. He took two steps forward before going back for the shovel and then running over to Isiah with it.
"Holy crap! I didn't think it would actually happen!" He shoved his own shovel in the ground and put all his weight into it.
It was slow, but Tsurai couldn't just sit around; he was excited. For about ever ten shovels Isiah did, Tsurai got in one.. But it was good enough for him.

Isiah matched his enthusiasm, shoveling until his boots sank up to the ankles in thick clay, dirty, clay-red water rising, bubbling up where the shovels pierced. He grabbed onto the outer rim, yanking his boots out one by one, before grabbing Tsurai by his shoulders and gingerly pulling him out. "You wanna do the honors?"

He laughed. "No. You do it. I'll go tell Braeden."
Tsurai tossed the shovel back and moved for the rope ladder.

Isiah nodded, pulling his boots off. He didn't want to lose them to the muck. He rolled up his pants, as well, halfway up his shins before sinking back into the clay, wiggling his toes in the wierd, smooth, sucking feeling, shoveling clay out carefully. The thick muck took a lot more energy than just dirt.. he could feel water bubbling up his ankles, then his shins, touching the lowest fold of his pantlegs before pulling himself back out.

"Don't over-exert yourself. You could still get heat stroke again," Tsurai said, hastily, before bounding up the ladder like a monkey and running to where he'd last seen Braeden.
He was so ... Happy, for lack of better wording, that instead of stopping when he saw the Denzien, Tsurai ran into him, resulting in him falling on his a** after bouncing backward.
Putting his hand to his head, he gave a weak groan, recovering before finally saying, "We.. Er... Isiah.. He did it. That dangerous weakling of your's found water!"
Of course, his head was still spinning, so he wasn't ready to get up quite yet, and decided to stay on the ground.

Braeden stumbled back before offering his hand to pull Tsurai up. "He did?... Guess someone owes me a beer, then. Lemme see." He followed Tsurai back down the hole, tilting his head to look downward at the growing pool of dirty-clay-red water. Isiah rolled his pants back down, pulling his dirty socks back over his wet feet before yanking his boots on. "Don't understand why YOU couldn't do that."
Braeden rolled his eyes. "I was hoping you'd bury yourself."
"Whatever, Kappa." He tucked his pantlegs into his boots military style, smiling smugly.

Tsurai jogged back to the tunnel, Braeden on his heels. "Is - iah!" he called, after the kappa's short conversation piece, "Throw the duffelbag up before it gets wet!"
He laid on his stomach and let his arm drop down. He was getting pretty used to this one handed thing. Thank God it wasn't his dominant arm that had been mutilated.
Tsurai, still on the ground and in a rather precarious position, didn't think much about the consequences when he said, "Who's going to eat who, now, Braeden?" with a smirk.

Braeden laughed hoarsely, waiting for Isiah to hand the duffle up to Tsurai before coyly yanking the shirt out of Isiah's back pocket during the younger Denzien's ascent. "Guess you got me there, kid."

"Heh." Tsurai pulled up the duffelbag and sat down, bag in his lap. He took out the water, or what was left of it, and began drinking thirstily.
Since they had found water, and Tsurai had given up his share for Isiah, now it was time to cure his parchment.
Of course, actually drinking left his stomach roiling with hunger. Yet, that organ hurt from trying to digest itself, so even though he was hungry, he didn't feel like he could eat anything. So he didn't bother with the solids, and kept on with the water.
Moments later, Tsurai realized what a spectacle he must've been, so forced himself to stop, even though the container was only a few drips from being empty. He gave a weary smile. "... Sorry. Thirst got the better of me, I guess."
He put the canteen back in the bag and zipped it up quickly. "So... How about that shelter you promised us? We should get out of here before the crowd comes."
Tsurai put the suffel's strap over his shoulder, but wasn't ready to get up just yet.

Braeden coughed. He hadn't thought.. well, not so quickly.. ********.. Ugh. Lucky b*****d. "Nothing comes to mind.. so you can have mine until something works out. All right? Don't get too cocky, okay? ********.. four feet.."
Braeden was by no means LEADER of the encampment, but he had enough status to have a .. 'room', even if it only had foot high broken remnants of walls. It was his 'space'. These days, property of any sort was hard to come by.. Well.. He'd talk it over with the others.
"More like five and a half." Isiah couldn't help but rub it in. "Kappa."
Braeden bit the inside of his mouth to hold in a response. Later. He lead the two to where he had been staying- Braeden had no belongings to speak of, save the clothes on his back and a pipe, which was useless trash now. "Welcome home, for the time being.."
A crowed had started to gather at the hole, people dropping in one by one to their knees to sample the dirty water. "Madness," Isiah mumbled.

Tsurai, once in Braeden's place, turned the duffel bag so it was on his stomach, and let himself fall onto his back, on the ground.
"I didn't think it woul deven happen," He said, talking about the water-striking. "Thanks, Isiah."
The eighteen year old re-adjusted the duffelbag so it could be his pillow. "You tired?" Tsurai was, but he was always tired. Probably from lack of food.
"Food! Oh. Hey. You should eat," He said, sitting up and unzipping the duffelbag.

"I'll eat after you do.." He watched Braeden walk away to take the credit. He didn't much care. The old man had to respect him now. "And no, I'm not that tired. Physically.. maybe.. I dunno about this place, kid."
He lay down on his back, sighing. All this.. menagerie.. made him miss the old days, bad. Even if .. well, it's not like he wasn't hiding it now. His boyfriend was gone. He didn't have anything to hide.
He folded his hands behind his head uncomfortably, surprised by the warmth of the crumbling concrete. Probably from the sunshine all day.

Tsurai frowned and laid back down on the duffelbag. "I'm not hungry," he pouted. "Besides... I'm good at... Not eating. I'm sure you aren't. And in this heat. You haven't really recovere dfrom yesterday. And it's easier to get exausted after you've had heat stroke once."
He let out a sigh. "And anyway, I'd just be wasting food. I'm pretty useless, even when I had both arms."

He snorted. "Don't let what that idiot's feeding you get to you. Anyone with a brain has worth. .. hell. Anyone at all. You don't need arms to be useful." He didn't like the crap that Braeden was spreading around.. it hurt him to see how truly impressionable Tsurai was.
"You think that Alex chick will follow us?"
