Muraki gave Cordell another kiss as he held the angel. Something about this boy made all the nightmares go away, silenced the screaming dolls... and brought peace to the unicorn who'd lived in the shadow of the past for so many years. Perhaps it was Cordell's distinct influence of the here and now, that simple, childlike mindset that brought about this feeling. Or perhaps it was something more-- perhaps it was Cordell's ability to look at Muraki and see only the good the scientist could do, not the blood that had been shed in the name of seeking what had to happen.

Whatever it was, it was what drove Muraki to Cordell's arms day after day, night after night, and at any spare moment he could find.

Perhaps what was most wondrous about this strange relationship was that Cordell seemed to want the same from Muraki-- unlike the multitude of unwilling partners Muraki had held in the past, had chained in the past.

For the first time, Muraki wanted to please someone beyond the demons in his past.

"I honestly can't say I care, Lucius," Muraki shrugged slightly. "Should it concern me that Mordred has gone missing? I don't see why it should."

"You know where he is-- so tell me," Lucius' hand clenched around the head of his staff. "After all, it wouldn't do to upset your precious little angel, would it...?"

"You make a very poor decision if you're threatening my Mate, Lucius," Muraki smiled, rising from his seat. "But then again, I suppose you've never had to do anything other than threaten others in your life, isn't that so?"

"Very amusing-- where is the pompous brat?"

"Perhaps you should ask someone with better contacts than me," Muraki scoffed. "I've been here all day with Cordell-- find someone who's been in contact with him, perhaps?"

Lucius glared at the unicorn, but rose from his seat. "I'll find out what's being hidden, Muraki..."

"I've no doubt you will," Muraki laughed. "But will that be before or after it's been presented?"

What was wrong with him? He was... avoiding the shop. That was the truth of the matter. Why? Because...

Sighing softly, Remus had to admit he was feeling restless. The babes within him were feeling restless as well-- and why? Because... well, Remus confessed that the babies probably felt their 'mother''s discomfort. But Remus himself...

Ever since Fenrir had showed up, Remus felt himself getting more and more frustrated-- not with Fenrir either. Frustrated with himself-- and with his mates.

It wasn't fair to be frustrated with Severus anymore. Because now the wolf was going through the Change that had practically destroyed Remus' life. But at the same time... before the Change happened... Remus had felt guilty about Severus feeling guilty for not letting Remus know Fenrir was in the area. At the time when Remus most wanted to just wallow in self-pity, when he felt he deserved to wallow in self-pity, his Mate decided to break down.

And that was where Remus' frustration began.

Then there was Sirius' lack of reaction when Severus had been bitten. It was almost enough to make Remus walk up to someone and try to get laid by someone who would just not care about him.

Almost.

I have been observing several events in the past few weeks which intrigue me. For one, we have the abrupt removal of both Remus Lupin and Mordred, Lord of War, to their rooms. The former is more interesting to me at the moment, the latter can be addressed later.

My mate, Cordell, and I have been discussing Remus Lupin for a while now, as the 'Mother Hen' of the household has fallen into something near despair. And why? Because his mates make him upset.

One is far too dependant for someone as... shall we say... fragile? as Remus. On top of which, when Remus first entered the shop to find Fenrir Greyback there-- when his mate was there-- Remus felt terrible enough to begin with. Then this mate of Remus' made Remus feel as if he couldn't feel badly about Fenrir being in the vicinity by whining about how sorry he was that he hadn't warned Remus.

If Remus Lupin had been a normal wolf, we suspect he might have snapped at his mate. Being that Remus is as... kind... as he is, we see that he did not. He, in fact, swallowed those possible complaints.

The other mate is probably going to run away sooner or later. He doesn't seem the sort to stay and be a father to his children.

This leaves Remus in something of a predicament-- because Cordell and I aren't sure he could stay with the unstable mate if his 'alpha' deserted him. Convenient, isn't it? It's almost as if someone planned it.

If someone HAD planned it, my guess would be Lucius Malfoy. He's had his eye on Remus for a long, long time now. Then again, Lucius hasn't had a hand in this. We know this-- we've kept close tabs on our slithery friend.

So what to do....

Saki found it strange that all of a sudden Cino had started avoiding him... but he didn't question it. The reclusive artist found comfort in his paintings, staunchly ignoring the fact that something ate at his chest, pretending he didn't miss the little unicorn following him around.

And ignoring the fact that something told him he was missing something huge.

Damnit, he should never have gotten drunk...

Cino meanwhile, found himself hiding away from Saki, wondering if the mer even remembered his existence-- or what had happened that night.

They'd both been drunk, and for the first time since Cino confessed feelings for the mer, Saki explained why he cared for Cino-- and why that made him uncomfortable.

The long and short of it was that Saki was a loner by nature-- he wasn't very big on family and the like, due to growing up without one. Thus the idea of actually caring for someone scared the scales off the mer.

But Cino understood-- and he kissed the mer first. Strange, the Uke taking charge? But he had to. He kissed Saki, tasting that sweet, strange saltiness...

One thing led to another, of course.

And now, Cino found himself swollen with... children?

How was he going to tell Saki this?
PostPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2005 1:51 am

How much time had passed? Cino didn't know-- couldn't know. All he knew was that he felt so very weak, that he wanted to see Saki so badly...

Things weren't going very well for him-- then again, no one really expected them to go well for him, did they? When they thought of him at all, most of the Nestlings didn't like Cino. Cino had never done anything to try to ingratiate himself with the others. Was that his fault?

But...

Now there were more...?

The three babies snuggled close to Cino, cooing softly. Two needed the water of the mer tank soon-- but that required going to see Saki and explaining...

So to the mer tank Cino finally dragged himself, his babies needing the water. Even if Saki hates me... at least... they love me...

Saki had been painting, hating his work when Cino walked in, somehow brightening the room. Sakirou wanted to paint a picture of that moment, capture it in his memory--

And then the babies.

Oh no. Oh no no no no no. Nothing had....

But it had.

And there were--

Cino met Saki's eyes nervously as he cradled the babies. "Saki, I..."

And then there was no need for explanations as Sakirou smiled and took Cino in his arms, holding the unicorn close, careful not to hurt the tiny beings. "...ours...?" he asked softly, disbelieving...

Cino nodded, laughing softly as Saki gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. "Ours," he repeated, loving this feeling.

Family...

Wolfe stared up at the Nest in a mix of apprehension and dismay. "This isn't the grocery store," he told Madison pointedly. "You lied."

"How do we know that?" the unicorn replied with a tinge of sweet. "I don't see how we could possibly have taken a wrong turn with your instincts and my super cool magic powers in hand. Guess we'll just have to inspect the entirety of the premises for... what was it Jan wanted? Sashimi? Never heard of it, myself--" he broke off upon realizing that Wolfe was, for the most part, ignoring him and continuing to stare at the Nest.

All right, so he'd manipulated him to coming here. Big deal. Madison had heard some awfully interesting things about soul conjurers in this part of town and that kind of knowledge would be damn useful right about now. Wolfe would serve as a good distraction if he needed to go snooping, not to mention it might break the other anthro of the habit of not finishing what he'd started. Madison could count half a dozen conversations in the townhouse from the past few days that had ended in Wolfe trailing off verbally and then trailing off physically, wandering into another room in a half-contemplative daze.

Distractions were probably good for him.

"Well if you're not going to ring it, I suppose the task is beholden to me," Madison quirked an eyebrow and leaned against the doorbell as he rang it.

User ImageRoman had door duty for once. Well, not for once, and it wasn't quite duty... more of, he was the closest person to the door, thus it fell to him to answer when the doorbell rang and--

s**t.

Of all the people...

"...ah... hello," Roman managed after a moment, swallowing hard and blinking several times. "What brings the two of you to the Nest?" he asked, trying to figure out if he should or should not flee now.

Wolfe did his best not to gape. Which was, you know, not very much considering, but he did try.

And he also really, really hated Madison.

Really, really hated.

Especially now.

Oops. Old flames were great for helping with the distraction thing, but he was going to have to weasel his way away from this first. "Groceries," he said perkily, looking over Roman's shoulder (not to difficult a feat) to inspect the hall behind. "Which I suspect that isn't, but I'm sure we can make do with something. Come along, Wolfe," he continued, also continuing his way into the Nest.

Now that was just plain impolite! Not that he was in any position to really care about that sort of thing. "Hi," he said by way of apology, not following the unicorn and instead sporting a nervous grin and lingering at the doorstep.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:25 pm

Roman blinked slightly-- not altogether worried about strangers wandering into the Nest-- after all, the inhabitants in general could take care of themselves. "Hi... you might as well follow your friend's example," Roman shrugged, moving to the side to make it easier for Wolfe to come in.

"So... you two got lost looking for groceries?" he asked, trying to make polite conversation while he figured out what the hell he was doing.

"Oh yes, absolutely," Madison said brightly at exactly the same time as...

"You could say that..." Wolfe muttered somewhat apprehensively in Madison's direction, not entirely sure he wanted to go in. Something reminded him of baseball, though he couldn't remember what, yet still that didn't banish the uneasy feeling that...

That he shouldn't just be nervous about seeing Roman again, when things were so up in the air and uncertain.

"I'll take this way," Madison continued just as brightly, heading in a direction that seemed to him ought to lead to bedrooms. One of them. He only had to find one of them. Words he'd heard, names. Hao, Seishirou, Muraki, Karasu... One. He only needed one.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:48 pm

Roman sighed as his eyes followed Madison for a moment before he glanced back at Wolfe, managing a faint smile. "Well, he seems to know where he's going... did you want to see the baseball field?" he asked finally.

User ImageAsteil watched the unicorn enter the household and intercepted him easily, having the distinct advantage of wings + a basic knowledge of the house. "So, who're you and whatcha doing here?" he asked, blinking.

Wolfe frowned at first, distracted from his thoughts by the realization that he ought to stop dreading meeting Roman again because, well, it'd already happened. And really, there was nothing to do about that. "Sure," he said, burying the unwelcome feelings in an unmarked grave, expression fading quickly into a grin. "Baseball's almost as good as groceries--better than, really--just don't think Jan'd agree."

It is to Atticus and Asteil's advantage both that Madison carried so little interest for the coon beta's woes. Tipping his hat graciously (he'd long since learned to maneuver his fingers around the tarot card still stuck upon his horn) and grinning up from the bow at the demon, "I am the humble Conjurer King at your service," he announced cheerily, "And I am looking for the perfect audience."

Or someone to give me directions, either or.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:57 pm

Roman actually DID smile at that. "Well, before you go home, I'll make sure to show you where the grocery store actually IS," he promised before leading Wolfe through the halls and out to the baseball field. "It's only here when Miss raven feels like having it, but that's often enough," he explained carefully.

"Audience?" Asteil asked with a smile. "I think you're in the wrong place then-- the Nest is hardly a place for a performance," the demon laughed. "Unless you want to meet the babies-- they'd probably love it."

The possibility of someone not wanting a baseball field was quite beyond Wolfe, so he chose to ignore it. "Nice grass," he said absently, mind still only half on the scenery, preferring to concentrate itself on Roman.

He seemed... fine. Which was relatively new, though not unwelcome. So if Roman was doing okay, what was he all worked up about? Complications, complications, complications!

"Most don't know how much they enjoy watching," Madison replied happily. And he most certainly didn't want to meet babies. Kids, he liked--you sort of had to at least get used to them when you were in his line of work--but babies... babies were too new, too fresh from... wherever it was souls came from.

"What about you, friend? Pick a card?" he proffered the deck seemingly from nowhere once more.
